After a week in the Amazon in Peru, we decided to spend a day in San Jose. I am so happy we picked this tour. Olman was the driver of our very comfortable air conditioned van. Racquel was our tour guide. She in encyclopedia of everything you will be exposed to. We started our day at the coffee plantation. She will educate you on the complexity of growing coffee, plus give you time to sip on a cup of very fresh coffee. Next stop was Poas Volcano. It's a smooth but slightly uphill walk. Wear comfortable shoes that don't slip. You are sitting in the clouds at approximately 8000 ft. It is damp. The key to seeing the volcano is patience. You must wait for the clouds to move, to give you a glance of the crater. Be sure to have your camera ready. There is a steep hike to the lake nearby, but I personally did not see. My daughter took the trail to the lake, but because of the clouds, she could not see it. She did make it to the volcano, just in time, to see the crater fully exposed, before we needed to leave for our next stop. We visited LaPaz Waterfall Garden and Wildlife Rescue Center. We saw many animals, most rescued from exotic wildlife owners. The tour provided a buffet lunch that was pretty tasting. Had local and American food. Lastly, there were five waterfalls available to see. The day became rainy. My husband and I only visited two waterfalls. There are a lot of stairs. Our daughter saw all five, as did half of the group. It was a great day. My only complaint is the tour was listed under private tours. I assumed that meant only my family would be on the tour. It does not. I guess it means it is not a big bus tour. It is a small van tour. Everyone else on the tour was very pleasant. It's just not what I thought I signed up for. I would highly recommend you book this tour with Olman and Racquel. We thoroughly enjoyed our day.
We added this excursion before our late night flight after a week in the Manuel Antonio area. I did not think this excursion could compare to the wonderful time we had in MA and was so pleasantly surprised as this tour ended up being right up there with top highlights of our trip! Our guide was super knowledgeable and we learned so much. We were able to see the volcano on our way up to the acidic lake and again on the way down. The coffee farm was interesting and the Pax waterfalls were breathtaking. We went with two teenagers who also had a blast!
Highlight of our trip. Plenty of hiking and nature. Raquel was great. The waterfalls were absolutely stunning
We had a great experience on this tour and would definitely recommend it. The hotel pickup was perfectly on time, and both our guide, Raquel, and the driver were friendly, professional, and helpful throughout the entire day. Our first stop was at a coffee plantation, where we learned about the coffee-making process. We also had some free time to enjoy breakfast before continuing the tour. Next, we visited the Poás Volcano National Park, where we were lucky enough to see the main crater and Botos Lagoon. Our final stop was La Paz Waterfall Gardens. Raquel gave us interesting explanations about the different animals in the wildlife sanctuary, and afterwards we had time to walk the trails and enjoy the beautiful waterfalls. It was a long day because of the driving, but everything was well organized and it was definitely worth it. A great way to visit some of Costa Rica's highlights in a single day.
This tour packs a lot into one day and it's all a ton of fun! Raquel is a super knowledgeable guide. The coffee plantation visit was interesting and the coffee was delightful. The volcanic crater was really cool-- getting to the viewing spot was a short hike so you will want to wear comfy shoes. It's also dependent on cloud cover. Fortunately we lucked out and it was visible. Finally, the wildlife sanctuary and waterfalls were wonderful. The sanctuary has tons of animals that were rescued from the exotic pet trade. The waterfalls were gorgeous. Getting to them meant going up and down many steep and slippery stairs but it was very worth it.
Nice comfy air conditioning van. Great organization and communication. Wonderful guides the whole day. Book it now you won't regret it!
I RECOMMEND THIS EXCURSION 1000/10!!!! If you enjoy a bit of hiking plus, animal sancuaries, you would love it!. The tour guide was extremely friendly and knowledgable.
We had an absolutely wonderful time on this trip and it was well worth the money. Everything we did on this trip was memorable and meaningful--from coffee plantation tour, volcano crater viewing, animal rescue center, and waterfall gardens. We also had a terrific guide, Raquel/Rachel. She was especially knowledgeable and made sure we had a great time. All in all, I'd say don't miss this trip and you would be happy to have Raquel as your guide.
