A good option if you want to see both Florence and Pisa during a port day. We were traveling as a group of friends and were mainly looking for something organized but not so structured that we couldn't enjoy the places ourselves. The transportation was comfortable and having pickup and drop-off close to the cruise terminal made things straightforward. Florence was the main highlight for us. We appreciated having a friendly guide there to explain the history and point out some details we probably would have missed on our own. After the guided portion, having free time was perfect because everyone in our group wanted to do slightly different things. Pisa was more of a relaxed stop. We walked around, took the obligatory Leaning Tower photos, grabbed something to eat, and enjoyed the atmosphere before heading back. The timing throughout the day seemed carefully planned, which matters a lot when you're visiting from a cruise ship. We didn't feel like we were constantly checking the clock. A full day, but surprisingly manageable.
Upon arrival, everything was great. Our tour guide messaged us giving the exact location of the meeting point. That was probably the best part. There was a family of 7, us 2 and another couple. The family was going in one van (with our guide) and the 4 of us in another. There was a problem with the cops on the one van so we stayed there about a half hour waiting and then eventually had to walk 15 minutes to our van. I do not expect anyone from another country to speak English, however, we booked an English speaking tour and our driver only knew Italian so there was so communication during the transport to each location, making hours of driving silent. Once we got to our locations, our guide was walking so fast, leaving half our group most of the time and only speaking to some of us at a time, we had no idea what we were seeing. At no point were the tour was a group of 11. We spent a lot of money on this tour and it was very disappointing. The highlight was the other couple as we navigated the sights during our free time. I would not recommend this tour.
We regret to hear about your disappointment, which, according to our port tour coordinator, appeared from the very beginning to have stemmed from an expectation of a private tour. Please note that private tours are clearly labeled as PRIVATE and generally cost at least three times more than a shared experience. Let me briefly address the other concerns raised: 1. The Additional Info section clearly states: “Please note that guide services are not provided during port transfers,” while the What’s Included section explains that the guide joins the group in Florence. 2. We are unable to reduce the tour pace to accommodate guests with limited walking ability. This is precisely why the Additional Info section states: “Please note that this tour requires significant walking, which makes it inaccessible for wheelchair or scooter users, as well as those with limited walking mobility.” For future Viator bookings, we strongly recommend basing your expectations on the published tour description, inclusions, and restrictions rather than on personal assumptions. Safe and happy cruises!
We usually prefer exploring independently, but with only one cruise day available in La Spezia, we decided that organized transportation would make more sense. In the end, we were happy with the choice. The pickup was convenient, and the air-conditioned transportation made the longer journeys comfortable. Florence was the main attraction for us and the guide added useful information about the city and its history. We didn't feel pressured to stay with the group every minute, which we really appreciated. Having free time in Florence gave us the chance to find a small café, walk around together, and take our time with photographs. Pisa was a nice change of pace afterward. The Leaning Tower area was busy, but we still had enough time to enjoy the stop. The cruise return schedule was handled carefully, which was one of our main concerns before booking. We also found the customer support useful for answering questions beforehand. A busy day, but it never felt unnecessarily chaotic.
I considered taking public transportation from La Spezia and planning Florence and Pisa independently, but with a cruise timetable I decided that an organized excursion would be less stressful. That turned out to be a good decision. The pickup was convenient and the air-conditioned transportation made the longer stretches between destinations comfortable. In Florence, the guide was friendly and provided a good overview before giving us time to explore. I particularly liked having some independent time. I could stop for photos, look around small streets, and choose where to spend my time instead of following a strict schedule throughout the entire day. Pisa was straightforward and enjoyable. Seeing the Leaning Tower in person was one of those simple travel moments that was worth the stop. The return schedule also gave me confidence that I wasn't going to be left trying to find my own way back to the port at the end of the day. For someone traveling alone from a cruise, the combination of transportation, guidance, free time, and organized return timing made the day considerably easier.
We wanted to make the most of our time in La Spezia and decided to visit Florence and Pisa on the same day. For us, the biggest concern was getting back to the ship on time, so having a return-time guarantee was reassuring from the beginning. The transportation was comfortable and having air conditioning made a difference, especially between the walking portions. The Florence guide was friendly and gave us a useful introduction to the city without making the experience feel like a long lecture. We especially liked having free time afterward because we could wander around together and stop whenever something caught our attention. Pisa was a nice second stop and gave us a completely different atmosphere from Florence. We had enough time for photos and a walk around the main area. Everything felt reasonably organized, but there was still some personal time built into the day. For a cruise stop where you want to see a lot without arranging everything yourself, this worked well for us.
Our family had a really enjoyable day visiting Florence and Pisa from the cruise port. The pickup and drop-off arrangement outside the cruise terminal made the morning much easier, especially with everyone trying to get organized before heading out. The vehicle was comfortable and air-conditioned, which was definitely appreciated after spending time walking around Florence. We had enough free time in Florence to explore at our own pace, take some photos, and have a quick look around the main areas without feeling constantly rushed. Later, we continued to Pisa and had time to see the famous Leaning Tower and walk around the square. The guide in Florence was friendly and helpful without overwhelming us with too much information. For a cruise excursion, the return timing was one of the things that gave us the most peace of mind. The schedule felt well planned and we never felt like we were cutting it too close to getting back to the ship. Customer support was also available when we had a question before the excursion. Overall, it was a comfortable way for our family to see two important places in one day.
We had a truly excellent day on this trip from La Spezia to Florence and Pisa. Everything worked perfectly from start to finish – the meeting point at the Palio del Golfo fountain in the cruise terminal was easy to find, just as described in the email, and the pickup was on time. Our guide Lorenzo, a native of Pisa, was simply great – very friendly, well prepared, and full of interesting information about the region during the entire bus ride. You could tell immediately that he does his job with heart and really cares about his guests. The short breaks before Florence and before Pisa (for the restroom and water) were also well planned. Florence and Pisa themselves were of course impressive, but it was above all the relaxed and well-organized atmosphere of the entire tour that made the day so special. The bus was comfortable and sufficiently large. Can only highly recommend this trip – and especially Lorenzo as a guide!
We were a group of friends looking for a way to see two famous places during our La Spezia port day, and this gave us a good balance. Florence was naturally the bigger part of the day, and having a guide there helped us understand what we were seeing rather than just walking around without context. The guide was personable and easy to talk to. After the guided portion, we had free time, which worked particularly well for our group because some of us wanted to shop while others preferred taking photographs and exploring the streets. The drive between locations was comfortable, with air conditioning that was very welcome after walking through Florence. Pisa was a shorter visit, but we had enough time to see the main area and take photos before continuing back. We also liked that the excursion was planned around the cruise schedule. There was a clear emphasis on returning in time, which made the day more relaxing. Nothing felt excessively promotional or complicated. It was simply a practical way to cover two places in one port stop.
Traveling alone from a cruise port, I wanted an excursion that would take care of the transportation and timing while still giving me some freedom during the day. This worked nicely for that. The pickup outside the cruise terminal was straightforward, and the air-conditioned vehicle was comfortable for the longer drives. Florence was definitely my favorite part. The guide was friendly and gave useful background about the city, but I also had free time to explore independently, take pictures, and sit down for a coffee. Pisa was a shorter and more relaxed visit, which was fine because I mainly wanted to see the Leaning Tower and walk around the square. I liked that the day wasn't completely filled with guided activities. The schedule allowed me to enjoy some places on my own. The return timing was another positive. When you're traveling independently from a cruise, you don't want to spend the whole excursion worrying about transportation back to the ship. The available customer support was also useful for a couple of pre-trip questions. Overall, a well-balanced day with a good mix of guidance and free time.
This tour allows for a quick introduction to Florence and a short stop in Pisa. Our guide, Sharif, was very knowledgable about Florentine history, and of the Medici family and their influence on the city in particular. The stop in Pisa was very short - enough to snap a few photos next to the iconic tower before moving on. Given the nature of the trip, it is understandable that the stays in each location are relatively brief. If you're travelling by cruiseship and want to see both locations, this excursion will do just that. However, if travelling by other means, separating the visits of each location into two dedicated allotments would allow for a more in-depth and fullsome experience of each location.
That’s absolutely right — if you would like to have more time to explore these two breathtaking cities, we highly recommend coming by air rather than by cruise ship. A cruise visit gives us only about 9 hours for the entire tour, including the long driving distances involved. We do our very best within this time frame, but unfortunately we cannot make the day longer. Why don’t cruise ships simply stay longer? Because every hour in port costs them money — the shorter the stay, the less they pay. Simple as that 😊 Have a nice cruise!
