Bem-vindo ao Phnom Penh! A capital do Camboja fica na confluência dos rios Mekong, Tonle Sap e Bassac. Phnom Penh era considerada por muitos como a mais bela de todas as cidades construídas pelos franceses na Indochina e, portanto, antigamente era chamada de pérola da Indochina. Foi um movimentado centro comercial durante a ocupação francesa, mas os anos de guerra esmagaram-no em um campo de ruínas antes de se tornar uma cidade fantasma durante o período dos Khmer Vermelhos. É somente a partir dos anos 90 que a cidade realmente começou a se recuperar e hoje se restabeleceu como o centro político e financeiro do país. Seu rico passado histórico pode ser rastreado até algumas evidências da influência Khmer e da França, como muitos templos em estilo Khmer e alguns grandes edifícios coloniais.

O Palácio Real e o Pagode de Prata são dois dos edifícios mais marcantes da capital e considerados alguns dos melhores exemplos da arquitetura Khmer. Eles foram inicialmente construídos em 1866 pelos franceses. O Palácio Real é a casa do atual Rei Sihamoni. O vizinho Silver Pagoda destaca-se à sua maneira distinta. O piso é composto por 5.329 telhas de prata maciça a que o edifício deve o seu nome. O edifício abriga muitas estátuas de Buda de ouro e joias, incluindo o altamente valorizado Buda de cristal bacará do século XVII. Outros edifícios importantes que podem ser encontrados dentro do complexo incluem Wat Preah Keo Morokat, onde as cerimônias reais são realizadas, e stupas como o rei Ang Doung Stupa - o local de sepultamento do ex-rei Norodom. O museu abriga uma das maiores coleções de arte Khmer do mundo, incluindo esculturas, cerâmicas Khmer, bronzes e objetos etnográficos. Sua coleção inclui mais de 14.000 itens, desde os tempos pré-históricos até os períodos antes, durante e depois do Império Khmer, que em seu auge se estendia da Tailândia, passando pelo atual Camboja, até o sul do Vietnã. O Museu Nacional do Camboja fica ao lado da Universidade Real de Belas Artes e está localizado no lado oeste do museu. Os edifícios do museu, inspirados na arquitetura do templo Khmer, foram construídos entre 1917 e 1924, o museu foi inaugurado oficialmente em 1920 e foi reformado em 1968.

Wonderful tour. I went to the royal palace and National museum The guide and driver were early for pick up but that was fine as I was ready. The guide certainly knew Cambodias history which was great
Siphat was an awesome tour guide, taking me on a historical journey through the Royal Palace grounds and National Museum. His detailed historical and cultural knowledge helped me to make many connections and insights along the way. Highly recommend this tour!
The Royal Palace obviously does not enter the part of the palace where the current king resides. In addition, the Silver Pagoda is always open to visitors. The present palace dates from the 20th century. Several places to visit , such as the Throne Hall, the Kemarin Palace , the Hor Samritvimean Pavilion , the Napoleon III Pavilion, the Chan Chaya Pavilion , in the center of the courtyard , the famous silver pagoda paved with 5329 silver tiles of 1.125 , then the famous Emerald Buddha which is in jade , then a life-sized gold Buddha weighing 90 kg, it is inlaid with 2086 diamonds, the largest in the center of the tiara represents 25 carats. For the National Museum, huge red building, built by the French in the 1920s , a winged Garuda of 2 meters in stone, many stelae engraved in Sanskrit and ancient Khmer , many Buddhas lying, standing, sitting. Many jewels, many reliefs and lintels. Very nice visit.
The Royal Palace and surrounding grounds were beautiful and our tour guide was fantastic- enlightening first hand experiences of important recent events In Cambodia’s history.

Wonderful morning tour. My guide, Syphat was very nice and considerate with my needs. As the Palace is still closed, Genocide museum was the initial alternative...which I was reluctant to go. I told that Syphat and he immediately came up another plan, which worked out perfect for me. He was punctual every step of the way. He even went extra effort to help me get SIM card in the middle of tour...and still managed to drop me off at the hotel on the dot at the end of the tour!
