A sacred Jewish burial ground.

We went again with Sara Terracina on this emotional trip through the catacombs. The story on how they actually found this place you will have to hear it for yourselves. Her knowledge for the symbols and meaning and the people that died there fascinating. Just imagine yourself walking in the crypt of old ancient Jewish people like Virginia. You have to have special permission to see this place and the place is special. A place that needs your respect if you decide to visit. This is a special tour don’t take it lightly or for granted. I am very grateful to have had Sara as a guide and my husband and I listened closely to every word and if you have questions I encourage you to ask many because what you learn you will not forget and it will seal your bond. Thank you Sara will will not forget you.

Time Travel away from crowds

We have been in Rome many times - and "did" all the must-sees many times over. And on every visit, they get more and more crowded, to the point where it's virtually impossible to enjoy them. If you are looking to escape the craziness, the selfie-sticks, the crowds and the vendors - this tour is for you. Just you, history, and Sara - your time travel guide for these two hours. It's an amazing experience that helps you understand Rome from a completely different standpoint than the forum, the Coliseum, or the Vatican. Perhaps not as visually striking, but more emotional and in some ways, more memorable. Sara was an incredible guide, of uncommon breadth of knowledge on many topics, which she delivered in a warm, engaging manner of a trusted friend rather than a learned professor. On our 10th more visit to the city, this was the highlight of the trip.

Review of Tour of Jewish Catacombs

My father and I had an exceptional tour of the Jewish Catacombs in Rome, made truly memorable by our outstanding guide, Sara Terracina. From the very beginning, Sara went above and beyond—personally picking us up so we could more easily access the property where the catacombs are located. Once there, it was immediately clear how deeply knowledgeable she is, not only about the catacombs themselves but about Jewish history in Rome more broadly. What made the tour especially engaging was her ability to bring the history to life. Sara is an excellent storyteller, and her narratives about Jewish life in ancient Rome added richness, context, and emotion to what we were seeing. The catacombs felt less like an abstract historical site and more like a window into a living past. Her kindness and generosity did not end with the tour. She very graciously drove my father and me back to our hotel in the Jewish Ghetto, which was an incredibly thoughtful gesture. That additional time allowed us to further engage with her about her own background, her family’s history, and her life in Rome as a Jew. Those conversations added a great deal to the experience and made it feel genuinely personal. Throughout the entire tour, Sara was enthusiastic, patient, and always willing to answer our questions. She even offered to remain a resource for us for the rest of our time in Rome, which speaks volumes about her care, professionalism, and love for the subject. I would highly recommend this tour—and Sara Terracina in particular—to anyone seeking a knowledgeable, engaging, and deeply human introduction to Jewish history in Rome.
