OK, forget the simpy 5-star reviews for this joint, but also forget the bitter one-star attacks. Here's a straight assessment. Overall: this place is definitely designed as a tourist trap, and a lot of it is through-the-looking-glass weird, but it's probably worth the thirty bucks if you have a day spare. I wouldn't make it the centrepiece of your holiday - VinWonders is a far better day out overall. Cable cars: The cable car ride is, as others have said, probably the highlight. One suspects if they just offered a $15 round trip on the cable car, the rest of the theme park would soon be deserted. The cable cars were nicely air conditioned, but the incessant "information system" (basically just an ad for Sun World) was an atmosphere killer, and the same message played in both directions (just in case you missed it the first time). Bring those noise cancelling headphones. The view of the tree canopy was great, as was the fishing fleet, although the scene was (as always in this part of the world) marred by a patina of discarded litter. When queueing to board the cable cars, unsmilingly efficient staff will ask for groups of two or three. Don't put your hand up. It's a trap. They are not diverting you to an express queue, but instead to a green screen where you can pretend to be having an amazing time before you get to see whether you do, indeed, have an amazing time. Ignore them. They will also try to push you into a full cable car from which you will see nothing. Insist on waiting for the next. The staff will favour you with their very best death-stare, but who's the darn customer here, am I right? Overall, the cable cars on their own would be a solid 4 stars. "Exotica". Apparently this is meant to be a theme park. There is a wooden roller coaster (yeah you read that right. Like, made of wood). This was in fact great fun, but at the same time was a very jolting ride, something like driving on a corrugated dirt road so that one's vertebra made syncopated clicking noises while one's brain paradiddled from the inside of one's skull. My 13 year old co-pilot described this ride as a "genuine neck snapper". I was mildly offended when, as a sprightly 52 year old, I had to sign a wavier. However it is obviously a testament to my fortitude that I survived. This was in fact rather fun, and I recommend it, although the entrance is difficult to find, requiring an unsigned three day camel caravan to the outer reaches of the park. Actually a walk of a few hundred metres, but it genuinely was poorly signed. There was a thing called "Eagle's eye" which is a slowly spinning platform full of people conversing at maximum volume, offering a cacophonic, panoramic view of the nearby construction zones, where they are building a wretchedly fake hotel district which looks like the hybrid offspring of a Spanish-Greek-Italian Mediterranean love triangle. Most of the rides don't open until an hour after opening, if they open at all. Exotica is a solid 1.5 star. Do the roller coaster ride once. Aquatopia Water Park: This was actually a lot of fun. The rides are all international quality waterslides, properly maintained, very safe feeling. My only real gripe was the incessant Disney-Prince fanfare music played on repeat to cover the construction noise - and the medusa statue who, for some odd reason, was wearing a g string with half her butt hanging out. King Neptune beside her was wearing nothing al all, poor chap. Let's deal with some of the common criticisms. Loungers - these were indeed few and far between, so those who secure one hang on to them for dear life and never vacate them (guilty as charged). Get in early or sit on the scorching hot ground. Swimwear rules: they do indeed enforce rules against having any metal. We saw people being rejected from the queue for zippers, bra-strap loops, and permanent cultural bracelets. At the same time some of the staff turned a blind eye sometimes. I got the sense they were just rigidly obeying rules rather than managing any actual risks on the slides. Bottom line though is that people do genuinely get rejected from the line for metal fittings on clothing. Staff attitude: This is definitely an area for improvement, but I think it's a staff training issue. At Vin Wonders staff have been trained to say "This way please sir!" With a smile. At Aquatopia they have been trained to point and say "You go here!" with no smile. It comes across as rude and demanding but I genuinely think it's not their fault. I also got the impression the staff at VW were enjoying their jobs a lot more than at Aquatopia. Lines and waiting: this is always going to be dependant on the season. In April 2026 it was fine, no more than a few minutes wait and certainly no worse than any other waterslide park. The water park overall was a solid 4 stars. The only negatives can be planned around with careful choices of clothing. Get a lounger early though. Food and beverage: Pretty awful, honestly. Massive but overpriced buffets; little stalls selling the exact same four cans of drink; I laughed at the vegetarian restaurant with a dude out the front grilling meat on an open grill. Smell the burning flesh before you eat that tofu, bwahaha! Having said that, the pingu ice cream just near the exit to the cable cars was great, and reasonably priced. One final observation: amusingly at a theme park, there was hammer-and-sickle bunting everywhere, like a sad old testament to a failed political system. Final thoughts: look, this turned into a pretty good day out. Not the highlight of the trip, but definitely not a rip-off and I'm glad we went.
