We did the Whitestone Factory Tour & Tasting this morning, and I can highly recommend it, and it’s not just for the cheese obsessed. The tour starts with & meet & greet at the company’s unique restaurant & Diner and you’re then transported to the factory in their comfortable mini bus. The site visit starts with s talk & video and then it’s off inside. It depends on the day what production & packaging activity is underway, and we happened to catch it at a relatively quiet time. But it was still interesting and videos fill in any gaps. It’s then back to the diner for the tasting. You can choose to pair your tasting with wine (pre-booked) as we did, for just $10 more. 5 cheeses, a nice sample of cheese to take with you and your done. I didn’t really take note of the time, but I guess the whole process was about 2 hours. Our host was friendly, knowledgeable, enthusiastic & entertaining.
We did the factory tour followed by a cheese and wine tasting. It was only the 2 of us so we got a personal tour guided by Ben. We started at the Deli & Diner and travelled in the courtesy bus to the factory. Watched a video about the history of this family owned and operated cheese business. We saw the milk being stirred in huge vats to separate the curds and whey. The moulding section had already finished their work and were cleaning up for the day. Watched the cheese being weighed and hand wrapped in special paper and foil imported from France. The best part was the tasting. They had 4 different cheeses paired with a wine sample. You receive a goodie bag with a cheese of your choice. We also bought more cheese in the shop. We would never have known about this multi award winning cheesemaker had it not been for the factory tour listed on TA. The creamy Havarti and haloumi are delicious.
We love Cheese and excited to visit the Whitestone Co. We had breakfast coffee and a cheese roll. The cafe staff and atmosphere is lovely. Then off on the tour. Jim is very knowledgeable about the Whitestone cheese family and the cheese making process. Awesome to try out some of their award winning cheese. Highly recommend if you love cheese.
Walked from where we are staying on a rather warm March afternoon and very much appreciated the air conditioning at Whitestone After much deliberation we selected the $14 selection of cheeses with glass each of Pinot noir...there we learnt about the fabulous local Q Pinot Noir (Side note the nearby helpful Liquorland have bottles of Q and other yummy local wines if you ask they give great advice) The cheese was lovely, we were not rushed and staff answered queries cheerfully or gave advice and recommendations.... we learnt a lot and enjoyed all the cheeses Great place to visit, try cheese and buy... we also bought the local honey they have. Kept very clean, very friendly, impressive wine and great cheeses...what more can you want?
Try the tasting platter of 6 delicious Whitestone cheeses with a glass of wine and you won't be disappointed. There is wheelchair accessibility but you will need to have someone ask (or you phone) for staff to take you via the side entrance as the front of the building has steps.
