Uw avontuur begint bij Truth Coffee, waar het aroma van vers gezette koffie de toon zet voor een reis naar het hart en de ziel van Kaapstad. Stap van daaruit de straten in van District Six, ooit een bloeiende gemeenschap verscheurd door gedwongen verhuizingen, nu een krachtig symbool van veerkracht. Onderweg kom je langs het stadhuis, waar Nelson Mandela zijn eerste toespraak hield na de gevangenis, en de Slave Lodge, een grimmige herinnering aan het verleden van Zuid-Afrika. Ervaar de drukte van Greenmarket Square, gevuld met lokale ambachten en verhalen, en loop vervolgens door Long Street, waar geschiedenis en moderne cultuur botsen. De tour eindigt in Bo-Kaap, met zijn iconische kleurrijke huizen en rijke Cape Malay erfgoed. Dit is niet zomaar een wandeltocht – het is een onvergetelijke reis door de verhalen, worstelingen en geest die Kaapstad hebben gevormd. Boek nu om de stad als een local te ervaren en haar ware hartslag te ontdekken.

Vervolgens gaat de groep naar District Six, waar de gids het krachtige verhaal van gedwongen verhuizingen tijdens de apartheid en de voortdurende impact op ontheemde gezinnen zal delen. De gids zal de betekenis van dit gebied en de strijd voor restitutie uitleggen.
De gids stopt bij het stadhuis, waar je hoort over het balkon waar Nelson Mandela zijn eerste publieke toespraak hield nadat hij in 1990 uit de gevangenis werd vrijgelaten. De gids zal het historische belang van dit moment voor Zuid-Afrika benadrukken.
Op Greenmarket Square zal de gids de rijke geschiedenis van het plein delen als een centrum voor handel en protest, terwijl hij wijst op de levendige markt en de lokale verkopers die de levendige sfeer van het plein blijven vormgeven.
Stoppen buiten de Methodistische Kerk, zal de gids haar geschiedenis als voormalige slavenkerk uitleggen en hoe religie een complexe rol speelde tijdens het tijdperk van slavernij en daarbuiten, inclusief haar rol in verzetsbewegingen.
De groep komt langs de Slavenloge en de gids deelt inzichten over de rol van het gebouw tijdens het tijdperk van slavernij. De gids zal uitleggen hoe de lodge nu een museum is gewijd aan het vertellen van de onuitgesproken verhalen over de impact van slavernij op de Kaap.
De groep zal dan verhuizen naar de kleurrijke straten van Bo-Kaap. De gids zal de geschiedenis en culturele betekenis van de Kaapse Maleise gemeenschap, de iconische kleurrijke huizen en de voortdurende erfenis van deze levendige buurt uitleggen.

We did 2 walking tours, the first being the walking history tour and this was marred by anti-British comments for our Afrikaner lady guide who more than once poked fun at the Brits, knowing that we were from the UK. This led to some of the information being unbalanced and she did not portray the poor treatment of the African people by not only the Uk but also other countries in South Africa with an even view. The second tour of Bo-Kaap was excellent, informative and interesting, he was unbiased and dealt with the history of Cape Town giving flavour from all sides and we had much fuller flavour of living through thos past times.

Dylan the guide started out friendly and energetic. He doesn't quite have his patter down and it seemed like he ran out of gas early on in the tour - he began repeating facts and listing details with no context and in no particular order. The walk itself hit some good points of interest; by the time we got to Bo-Kaap, I think we learned that there were colorful houses as an expression of freedom and were told to take pictures. And then the tour was over.

This tour was an interesting and historical walk which included some highlights such as City Hall where Nelson Mandela first addressed his people after release from prison, Desmond Tutu's home and church and the colourful Bo-Kaap area. Our guide Dylan was articulate, knowledgeable and polite. 5*
