We had the most amazing experience whale watching on the Andrea! Our guide Alessio was super nice and knowledgeable. He made the trip fun and entertaining. We encountered harbour porpoises, two friendly minke whales and two breaching humpback whales! It was just breathtaking! Can recommend a thousand times! If you come to Iceland you have to do the tour!

We turned up at booked time to be told the trip had been cancelled due to poor weather. It was understandable but no message had been received to tell us! However we rearranged for 3 days later. Spent an hour getting to the right area to see whales, 30 mins looking there and then an hour back! Felt a bit short changed!

This was my fifth trip to Iceland, this time for The Solar Eclipse. Unfortunately, the forecast for Eclipse Day was not good. Our sightseeing tour guide on the day before the eclipse offered the Whale Watching exhibition. I’ve seen whales before but thought being on the water might be a better way to try to see the eclipse so I sighted up. I assume this was not the usual tour. We are offered champagne as we boarded. There was a delicious buffet set up at several stations throughout the boat. Hannah was the Whale Watching Guide and she was special. I think most people had come because of the eclipse but Hannah did give us information about the whales as we went in search of them. We saw several whales. Hannah also shared that even though we could not see the sun, we would experience totality. She kept us informed of the eclipse time as she counted down to totality. The sky, even though completely cloud covered, went dark at totality. Eery. It was a great experience provided as part of the Whale watching expedition.

We had a fantastic whale-watching trip with Special Tours in Reykjavík and were incredibly lucky with what we saw. We spotted minke whales, humpback whales, porpoises and dolphins, it was amazing to see so many different species in their natural environment. Our guide, Selina, was brilliant. She was knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic, and really added to the experience. A lovely bonus was that she took photos of the wildlife during the trip, which meant we could put our cameras away and simply enjoy watching the whales and dolphins with our own eyes, knowing we’d still have some wonderful photos to remember it by. The waterproof and windproof overalls they provide were also a great help, especially when you’re out on the water and the wind picks up! It truly was one of the highlights of our Iceland trip and an experience we’ll remember for a long time. We would definitely recommend Special Tours and Selina to anyone visiting Reykjavík and wanting to go whale watching.
