We wandelen over geplaveide straten en bezoeken 7 iconische plekken, van de indrukwekkende kerk van La Merced tot de mystieke Union Tank. Ook passeren we de majestueuze Santa Catalina Arch, perfect voor foto's. Ga op ontdekkingstocht met een gepassioneerde lokale gids die echte verhalen, weetjes en geheimen deelt die je niet in reisgidsen vindt. Je ontdekt het voormalige jezuïetencollege, de grandeur van de San José-kathedraal en de Mayacultuur in Nim Po't. Een prachtig voorbeeld van de barokstijl van het koloniale tijdperk. We zullen leren over de geschiedenis van het bouwproces en veel merkwaardige feiten die het leren leuker maken over het belang ervan voor de huidige Guatemalteekse cultuur.
Het is een bekend centrum voor textiel en handwerk in Antigua, gelegen net onder de Santa Catalina Arch (5th Avenue North #29). Bij Nim Po't vindt u een grote verscheidenheid aan huipiles (traditionele kleding), maskers, huishoudtextiel en ander typisch Guatemalteeks handwerk. Bovendien hanteert het bedrijf een fairtrade-aanpak en ondersteunt het lokale ambachtslieden. (Dit is onderdeel van hun missie op de ambachtelijke markt).
Één van de meest herkenbare iconen van Antigua. Door de eeuwen heen heeft de kleur veel verschillende kleuren gekend (geel, blauw), hoewel we tegenwoordig vooral de karakteristieke gele tint zien. Het is een superfotogenieke plek voor toeristen en een symbool van de stad.
Bezoek aan het historische herstelproject van wat het hoofdkwartier was van de jezuïetencongregatie in Guatemala.
Tour naar de monumentale archeologische vindplaats van het oude kathedraalcomplex en de catacomben
We gaan naar de tijd waarin de inrichting van de stad en de symbolische representatie die dit plein vol licht en duisternis omringt, begon. Bezoek aan het Jade Museum, waar we meer te weten komen over de spiritualiteit die jade vertegenwoordigt in de precolumbiaanse Maya-cultuur.
Tijdens dit bezoek maakt u een fascinerende reis door de Meso-Amerikaanse geschiedenis aan de hand van jade, de zogenaamde "steen van het eeuwige leven". In het Mesoamerican Jade Museum kunt u meer dan 70 stukken bewonderen — originelen en replica's — uit de Mokaya-, Olmec-, Maya- en Azteekse culturen. Uw gids vertelt u alles over de verschillende soorten en kleuren jade, over de natuurlijke vorm en over hoe lokale ambachtslieden het met behulp van moderne technieken bewerken. Bovendien leert u over de Maya-wereldvisie: u kunt ontdekken wat uw ‘nahual’ is, een dierlijke beschermgeest die bij uw geboortedatum hoort. Deze plek bevindt zich in een prachtig koloniaal huis uit de 16e eeuw (El Jaulón) en is een plek vol architectonische schoonheid en culturele identiteit.
We zullen een historische plek leren kennen in de verhalen van de populaire legendes van Guatemala.

Luis was a friendly and informative guide. He had a lot of information about Antigua in regards to the history and people. The route we took covered a good amount of the city. I recommend this tour to get to know the city.

A super interesting tour of the key places in the history of the city that hand in hand with Delmy Catavi have made the morning fly by. It tells you countless details and historical curiosities that help you understand the evolution of the city in the context of the time and the integration of the Maya in Spanish society. Honestly, this tour gave me a new perspective on the coffee I drink everyday. No frills or fancy stuff, just straight to the plant and how the farmers harvest it.
