Een onvergetelijke dag om de rotsachtige westkust van Gran Canaria en het groene noorden te ontdekken, ver van het massatoerisme. Tijdens deze dag kunt u van de gelegenheid gebruik maken om te zwemmen in de mooiste natuurlijke zwembaden van het eiland. Kiezen voor ons betekent kiezen voor reizen terwijl u de tijd neemt, waarbij u de diversiteit van de landschappen herontdekt, maar ook het lokale, historische, culturele en gastronomische erfgoed. Uw excursie is volledig privé, zonder onnodige zakelijke stops. Wij zijn al vele jaren gevestigd op het eiland Gran Canaria. Meer dan 20 jaar geleden werden we verliefd op de mensen, de landschappen en de tradities. We zijn gepassioneerd over het bezoeken van elke hoek van ons prachtige eiland. We staan te popelen om aan iedereen die aan het massatoerisme wil ontsnappen, alle wonderen voor te stellen die verborgen zijn op ons “continent in miniatuur”. Wij nodigen u uit om samen met ons Gran Canaria te ontdekken!

We maken een fotostop bij de “Molino de Viento”. Het is een windmolen, gelegen op een paar kilometer van Mogan. Volgens de mondelinge overlevering was het een herder uit La Aldea die het in brand stak als vergelding tegen de gemeentelijke macht. Vanaf dat moment stond het bekend als Moulin Brûlé. Hij werd in 1998 gerestaureerd. Dankzij de toren van 7 meter is het de grootste windmolen van Gran Canaria.
We stoppen om de “Azulejos de Veneguera” te bewonderen, een natuurmonument gevormd door een complex proces van stolling van de vloeistoffen die door de Tejeda-vulkaan worden uitgestoten en die door de erosie van duizenden jaren bloot is blijven liggen. Een berg alsof we hem met penseelstreken hebben ingekleurd. Erosie onthulde een reeks geologische lagen, mineralen getint met roodachtige, oker, groene en blauwe tinten. De lokale bevolking gaf de naam “Los Azulejos de Veneguera” vanwege hun gelijkenis met de felgekleurde betegelde muren van San Nicolas de Tolentino.
In Puerto de la Aldea vinden we het enige gemakkelijk bereikbare strand aan deze hele kust. We lopen rond de haven en gaan vervolgens richting "El Charco". Het is een klein natuurlijk meer gelegen aan het strand van La Aldea en bestaat uit zeewater. De festiviteiten van El Charco, in het dorp San Nicolás, zijn een van de beroemdste en populairste evenementen op de Canarische Eilanden. Elke 11 september verzamelen honderden mensen zich in het "meer" van de stad om met hun eigen handen te vissen op de vissen die in deze kustlagune leven. Dit festival wordt beschouwd als een bezit van cultureel belang en is gebaseerd op een pre-Spaanse traditie. Na een lange rit langs de rotsachtige afgronden met een stop om foto's te maken van de wilde kust, komen we aan bij onze volgende stop "De Puerto de Las Nieves".
Agaete heeft enkele van de meest populaire natuurlijke zwembaden en stranden in het noordelijke deel van het eiland. We wandelen langs de pittoreske maritieme promenade en stoppen bij de natuurlijke zwembaden. Vergeet je zwemkleding niet als je in deze zwembaden wilt zwemmen! Een unieke en onvergetelijke ervaring!
Na het zwemmen lopen we richting de haven van Agaete “Puerto de las Nieves”, een kleine vissershaven met zijn vele visrestaurants aan zee. Dit zal de ideale stop zijn voor een welverdiende lunchpauze in voornamelijk een typisch Canarisch restaurant lokaal gevangen vis aanbieden. (Maaltijden niet inbegrepen in de prijs van de excursie). Na de maaltijd wandelen we door de haven met zijn witte en blauwe huizen aan de voet van het kiezelstrand. We zullen van de gelegenheid gebruik maken om te zien wat er overblijft van de beroemde “Dedo de Dios”, de emblematische rots van de haven. Het is een monoliet die uit de oceaan oprijst en de vorm heeft van een hand en een vinger die naar de hemel wijst. Na een storm in de herfst van 2005 stortte de vinger in. Het enige dat vandaag de dag overblijft is de hand. Het wordt dan tijd om de weg naar Arucas te nemen.
We verlaten nu de hoofdweg richting Arucas. Hier is het landschap erg groen en overal zijn bananenplantages en typische “Fincas” te vinden. In deze regio speelt de landbouw een hoofdrol. In Arucas bezoeken we (buitenkant) de kathedraal “Iglesia de San Juan”. Deze enorme kerk met vier torens is gebouwd in zwart basalt.

I cannot recommend this tour enough!! Fabian was an absolute legend. Very knowledgeable, personable and an all round amazing human being. I have great memories from my first ever tour of Gran Canaria and I cannot wait to book another tour soon.

We had a great time with Fabian. Myself and my 13 years old daughter enjoyed his stories about the island and visiting places that were picturesque and certainly memorable. Lunch was super tasty and we loved trying typical Canarian food. Fabian was also patient with us when we wanted to stop and buy some nicely crafted souvenirs - much appreciated. Through his excursion, Fabien has shown us some of the wonders of Gran Canaria. He was able to satisfy our thirst for curiosity about the history, geography and culture of this island. We had the opportunity to take a trip to the mountains of Gran Canaria in December 2023 with this company and we were completely satisfied. So this year, for our return to the island we booked the full tour of the island and obviously again with Fabien. It was like meeting a long-time friend. You could see he was really happy to see us again. We toured the island as indicated on the program and even with a few little “Plus”, because Fabien knows how to adapt according to his clients and does not count his time. We enjoyed visiting the beach area of “La Aldea” Fabien showed us sites that we could not have discovered alone. The fish meal in Agaete facing the port was very good and typical. The West Coast is wild and beautiful. Fabien has many different excursions and as we return every year, we have already planned a completely different excursion. Having just completed my second tour with Fabien (my first was two years ago), I can confidently say that it is one of Gran Canaria's best guidebooks. This "Jane McDonald Tour" was absolutely fantastic and took us to some of the island's most beautiful hidden treasures. Fabien’s profound knowledge and passion for Gran Canaria are evident at every stop. From the crystal clear waters of Tufia with its charming white-blue houses and cave dwellings to the impressive neo-Gothic San Juan Bautista church in Arucas - every stop was a highlight. The historic centre of Arucas with its 17th-century architecture was particularly fascinating. ==References== A special highlight was the visit to Firgas, also known as the "balcony of the Atlantic". The Paseo de Gran Canaria with its waterfall road and the Paseo de Canarias, which shows the landscapes of all the Canary Islands, offer breathtaking photographic motifs. Lunch here was a unique experience with local watercress dishes - a truly authentic taste of Canarian cuisine! The last stop at Puerto de las Nieves in Agaete was overwhelming, with its natural pools and iconic Dedo de Dios rock formation. The blue and white houses along the pebble beach perfectly embody the charm of this fishing village. What distinguishes Fabien is his charming personality, his many years of experience and his ability to convey not only the tourist places but the authentic soul of Gran Canaria. His personable nature and professional approach make the 8-hour tour seem like an excursion with a well-informed friend. I have now done two different tours with Fabien and would book again at any time. If you want to experience the real Gran Canaria with an excellent guide, Fabien is the place to be.
