We had the most amazing experience with our guide, Ruby! She met us at our hotel and as we were a big group of 7 with oldies and young kids, we travelled by car to the local market. It was an eye opener for our 3 young boys. Ruby was super patient in explaining things and answering our questions, helping to look out for our kids as well. We then went to the farm and the took the older boys on her bike with her, what a treat for them! It was such a fun experience riding the buffalo, sitting in the bamboo boat with the most talented local farmer men, showing us how to weave 'rings and watches' from coconut leaves, chopping water coconuts fresh from the river for us to try. Back at the farm, the cooking experience was so interactive and hands-on, Ruby patiently let all 7 of us take our turn at making fresh rice paper rolls, then took us on an exciting cooking class and it was a ball flipping pancakes in the air! We ended the experience with a delicious meal, including the food that we cooked on our own. Will definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking for a different experience, suitable for both old and young, and very customisable to your needs. Thank you Ruby, for a wonderful morning spent with you experiencing local Hoi An culture!
Our experience at the Tra Que Water Wheel was really relaxing and allowed us to get in touch with the real Vietnamese life of local farmers surrounded by an uncontaminated environment. A special thank you goes to our tour guide, Ruby, for all the information she gave us and for her explanations about how to make rice paper and prepare delicious Spring rolls during the cooking class. We started the tour with a ride on a basket boat in the middle of a coconut forest and then we cycled in the countryside where you can spot water buffalos ( you can even ride one, if you like) while exploring the rice fields around you. Finally we had a farm -to- table lunch we ourselves cooked during the cooking class with the addition of other traditional Vietnamese dishes prepared by a local chef with the fresh ingredients grown on the farm. Why not conclude the day with a bike ride up to the white An Bang Beach and lie on a beach bed while sipping a refreshing drink or waiting for the breathtaking scenery at sunset? It's great fun! We highly recommend this experience to tourists visiting Hoi An. Angela from Italy March 2026
We had the most amazing time at the eco village. Everyone we had dealings with were so kind and friendly. The kids loved the coconut basket and buffalo ride and we all really enjoyed learning how to cook local food. We never felt rushed and it was a very calming atmosphere. I would recommend doing this to anyone.
What a wonderful half day!! Highlight for our 4 year old was riding the water buffalo and highlight for our 6 year old was all the coconut leaf “jewellery” made on the basket boat! Basket boat ride itself was a very peaceful experience and my husband and I loved the cooking class and delicious food and drinks! Personal highlight was making rice paper. As someone who has eaten a lot of rice paper products before (I grew up in south east Asia) I was amazed I’d never really thought about/knew how it was made! Fascinating! Our guide, Xuan, was absolutely super - hospitable, energetic, patient, considerate, and great with our kids. Our kids being quite fussy only really wanted to eat plain rice which they provided. Thank you SO much for such a memorable and warm-spirited trip! We also ate some milk apple which was a first for us!
Such an amazing experience 🥰 thanx to Tra Que Water Wheel local Family. It was such lovely people and the cooking was not only super fun it was the best dishes ever🤤we did 4 of the best local cuisine and also tried out a lot of spices from their garden. The setting is so beautiful in the middle of the Richfields😍👩🏻🍳this was 1 of our best experience! I highly recommend and can’t wait until the next visitt 😍
Ruby was an amazing host. We got a custom experience where we got to try out a basket boat, ride the water buffalo, participate in traditional farming techniques on their organic farm and best of all get to make rice paper and cook multiple authentic Vietnam dishes. Our kids who are normally just kind of adventurous eaters loved every moment of it. Highly recommend this tour - you get traditional Vietnamese hats because the sun is very very strong. Dress accordingly!
Our cooking class was the best. Fun, interesting, helpful, more fun and we were made to be so welcome. Very highly recommended
Definitely one of our best days! First meeting Trang with her great energy and playful humor. Next our bike ride out of crazy busy HoiAn and into farm land, stops to learn about rice, along the way tidbits of her life growing up there and her family. Thinking the round boats was going to be a goofy touristy thing, I was instead delighted by the 2 low key paddlers who guided these saucer boats through a water way, learning how and why this unusual craft came to be, easygoing lessons on making rings from grasses growing there. Once at the herb farm and restaurant, we visited with a woman farmer, cooked the local crispy pancakes, then sat down to a fabulous and generous multi-course meal - so good! Biked home thankful for the heavy clouds which cooled our ride home. Lovely day. Thank you Trang and all!
We had the most amazing afternoon at Water Wheel! Our amazing teacher Spring taught us how to make three dishes and made it super simple but fun. The food was amazing too! Then we loved the coconuts after. All in all a fabulous experience and we would highly recommend!
I was only looking to take a Vietnamese cooking class, but what I got was a real trip highlight! I was greeted at my hotel by Ruby who was a delightful guide. I was solo, and she took me by the arm and guided me through the local markets, collecting food for our class and showing me all the local fare. This was really neat! I asked a lot of questions and Ruby’s English was great. Later we went to the farm and Ruby showed us all the plants in the garden and what they were and how they’re used in local dishes. Then, there was the coconut boats, the water buffalo ride, planting, and WoW, the food we cooked was Amazing! So flavorful! I learned so much. I Highly recommend this one!
