Deze Oost Madeira tour combineert de meest emblematische locaties van het eiland met een professionele en goed georganiseerde service. Meestal uitgevoerd in kleine groepen en onder leiding van lokale gidsen, biedt de tour inzichtelijke informatie terwijl u enkele van de beste uitzichtpunten in het oosten van het eiland bezoekt. De route omvat prachtige bergen, het laurissilva-bos, traditionele dorpen en kustlandschappen, waardoor u op één dag kunt genieten van diverse landschappen. Onze reis begint met een klim naar Pico do Areeiro, de op twee na hoogste berg van het eiland, oplopend tot 1.818 meter boven zeeniveau. Vanaf hier kunt u genieten van een prachtig uitzicht waar dramatische bergtoppen samenkomen met de diepblauwe Atlantische Oceaan. Deze plek is ook een toegangspoort tot enkele van de spannendste wandelpaden van het eiland.
Vervolgens dalen we af naar Ribeiro Frio, gelegen in het weelderige laurierbos en bekend als startpunt voor een van de klassieke levadawandelingen. Het gebied is de thuisbasis van forelvijvers en het oude Laurissilva bos, een UNESCO-geklasseerd ecosysteem dat dateert uit de prehistorie, waar veel van Madeira's oorspronkelijke plantenleven is bewaard gebleven.
Onze volgende stop is het dorp Santana, bekend om zijn iconische driehoekige huizen met rieten daken. Deze traditionele huizen, zorgvuldig onderhouden als symbool van Madeira's erfgoed, steken levendig af tegen het omliggende groene landschap en bieden inzicht in de landelijke tradities van het eiland.
In het schilderachtige dorpje Faial nemen we de tijd om de rustige en uitnodigende omgeving te waarderen. Een heuvel bekroond met een groot kruis kijkt uit over de stad en biedt een wijds uitzicht op de dramatische kliffen langs de noordkust en de uitgestrekte Atlantische Oceaan
De tour gaat vervolgens verder naar Portela, een uitzichtpunt dat bekend staat om zijn indrukwekkende uitzicht over Porto da Cruz en de Eagle Rock. Vanaf hier kunnen bezoekers het opvallende contrast tussen hoge bergkammen, groene valleien en de open zee bewonderen, wat het gevarieerde landschap van het eiland benadrukt.
Als we Ponta de São Lourenço bereiken, verandert het landschap merkbaar. Dit meest oostelijke puntje van Madeira wordt gekenmerkt door zijn droge, ruige terrein, heel anders dan de groenere gebieden van het eiland. Wandel over de klifpaden, voel de oceaanlucht en observeer de kenmerkende vulkanische rotsformaties die deze locatie echt uniek maken.
De tour eindigt in Machico, een stad van grote historische betekenis als de eerste landingsplaats van de Portugese ontdekkingsreizigers. Neem de tijd om de straten te verkennen, de 15e-eeuwse kerk te bezoeken of te ontspannen op het gouden zandstrand

Good day out, especially since we only had 3 days and did not rent a car. I would not opt for lunch, if I were to book this again. The bus does make a stop in a location where there are plenty of restaurants, so you do not need to worry.

Disappointed that the wicker artesian tour hasn’t been on for five years and no one has updated the Tripadvisors website. Rest of the tour was just ok. Weather not great.

Overall it was an amazing tour and we managed to see some amazing views due to getting lucky with the weather! It was a great way to see loads of the island in one day. Tour guide was very knowledgeable; he spoke in English and Portuguese. Our commentary was maybe around 70% Portuguese and 30% English in case that may be a problem but what can you expect in a Portuguese island.

Snr Barros gave us a fantastic tour. It was supposed to be in Portuguese only but there were two German speakers on the tour, so he did it in both languages. We saw breathtaking views and traditional houses, and we also got lots of interesting information about Madeira. I drank quite a lot of poncha, too!

We decided to have a private tour as our cruise ship time in port was limited. We were met at the port by Melem, who asked what our interests were and adapted our day accordingly. He never rushed us and allowed us plenty of time at the viewpoints to admire the fantastic vistas. We also were able to extend the Lavada walk while he drove to meet us. His local knowledge allowed us to see an inhabited triangular house in Santana. We opted to include lunch in Santana as part of our tour and this was an excellent 3 courses.
