We vertrekken vanuit Queenstown en nemen de prachtige schilderachtige rit via de Devils Staircase langs Lake Wakatipu naar de Southland Region. Onderweg leren we verder over de geschiedenis van het gebied en bespreken we een nabijgelegen locatie die is gefilmd voor de Hobbit.
(1 november - 31 maart Reisroute alleen) Onze reis brengt ons naar de legendarische hal waar Lord of the Rings productieapparatuur stond opgeslagen en waar verschillende iconische scènes werden gefilmd. Deze fascinerende locatie biedt een kijkje achter de schermen bij het filmproces. Vervolgens bezoeken we het prachtige Fraser’s Beach, een rustige plek waar bezoekers op een heldere dag worden getrakteerd op een panoramisch uitzicht op de majestueuze zuidelijke Alpen die oprijzen vanuit het hart van het Fiordland National Park. Het opvallende contrast van het rustige strand met de torenhoge toppen zorgt voor een adembenemend landschap, waardoor deze stop een must-see is voor fans van zowel The Lord of the Rings als de natuurlijke schoonheid van Nieuw-Zeeland.

Ten eerste de serene Anduinrivier, waar het stromende water van de grote rivier van Midden-aarde werd opgevangen. Niet ver hier vandaan bieden de Dode Moerassen een spookachtig landschap, in de films vereeuwigd om hun griezelige en atmosferische schoonheid. Deze adembenemende locaties, omgeven door het ruige terrein van Fiordland, geven bezoekers de kans om de echte magie van deze beroemde filmlocaties te ervaren. Perfect voor zowel Lord of the Rings-fans als natuurliefhebbers, dit deel van Fiordland heeft een diepe verbinding met zowel de filmische geschiedenis als de natuurlijke pracht van Nieuw-Zeeland.
(1 november - 31 maart Reisroute alleen) We maken een stop bij Te Anau, het bruisende toeristische centrum van de Southland Region en de toegangspoort tot Fiordland National Park. Genesteld langs de oevers van het op één na grootste meer van Nieuw-Zeeland, en het grootste watervolume, biedt een rustige omgeving met een adembenemend uitzicht. Tijdens onze lunchpauze heeft u de kans om te genieten van de serene schoonheid van het meer, terwijl de majestueuze zuidelijke Alpen in de verte opdoemen, waardoor een perfecte achtergrond voor ontspanning ontstaat. Deze rustige pauze stelt ons in staat om de prachtige landschappen die Fiordland en de omliggende gebieden zo uniek maken ten volle te waarderen.
Het hoogtepunt van dit avontuur brengt ons naar het adembenemende Mavora Lakes Park, een werkelijk magische locatie. Voordat we naar binnen gaan, bezoeken we een Lord of the Rings-filmplek waar een van de hoofdacteurs twee tenen brak bij het perfectioneren van een scène. Het park ingaand, beginnen we bij South Mavora Lake, hier steken we een prachtige draaibrug over waar de Fellowship Lothlórien op hun Elfenboten langs de Silverload River vertrekt. Onze reis gaat verder naar North Mavora Lake, waar Frodo en Sam aan hun eenzame reis naar Mordor beginnen tijdens de Breaking of the Fellowship in Nen Hithoel. In het betoverende Beukenbos vlakbij bezoeken we de locatie van een dramatische Uruk-hai aanval. Om deze onvergetelijke ervaring af te sluiten, hebben we de kans om deze iconische scènes na te bootsen met onze indrukwekkende collectie replica-rekwisieten met licentie, waaronder zwaarden, dolken, bijlen en helmen in beperkte oplage, ontworpen door Weta Workshop. Deze meeslepende ervaring brengt de magie van Midden-aarde op een onvergetelijke manier tot leven.
Via de Devils Staircase keren we weer terug naar Queenstown. Als het weer helder is kunnen we stoppen voor een foto bij de uitkijkpost en bespreken we enkele Lord of the Rings schilderachtige locaties gefilmd in de verte

Great LOTR’s day. Our guide Eby was awesome. We got to see so many filming sites. Lots of props to recreate scenes with. Such fun
Was an incredible day. It really took the stress out of getting to the locations in rural spots. If you're a huge fan I would fully recommend. I am trying to go to every filming locations possible and I couldn't have done it without these guys.

Absolutely loved everything about the trip. I was brought along because it was a gift and admittedly I don't remember too much from the movies butevery single thing was way above my expectations. Beau was our driver and he talked about both the history of the area and the lore of lord of the rings and tons of behind the scenes info and getting to look over copies of the actual scripts and weta calendar when we were on gravel was a brilliant touch . The stops were nice and nothing felt rushed with tons of info at each one. The script reading on the edge of the lake was absolutely awesome being in the exact spot with the exact scenery. I wasn't expecting the running commentary as Beau was driving but it added so much to the trip as we travelled around. Dressing up with the cloaks and really nice quality weapons was also unexpected with the sheer number of options to look at and play with. Easily and 11/10. Amazing guide, cool spots and great props and I would 100% do it again in a heartbeat. I also had to get my own ring at the end too as a keepsake

There are a few LOTR tours you can do from Queenstown, and this is the best one. So if time or funds are limited, then I recommend this one. It has the best scenery and the most recognizable locations. The Queenstown area has spectacular landscapes anyway, and combining it with the the movie locations just enhances the experience. I won't describe in detail the locations, as it is better to discover and enjoy them yourselves. The tour is taken via a comfortable minivan, and a small group (5 of us) so the transport is comfortable. The guide, Beau, was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. By the end of the tour you will be planning your next watch of the movies or reading of the books; and possibly checking on New Zealand permanent resident visa rules!

This must definately be the ultimate LOTR-experience in the Queenstown area, run by real LOTR-enthusiasts! In addition to being the tour where you get to do the famous head-on-a-spike-selfie, you will visit several other locations such as the Anduin, the Dead Marshes and the Mavora lake. The scenery was stunningly beautiful, and our guide Beau made the experience so awesome, with his endless knowledge about all things LOTR. At the end of the day we got to wield a wide selection of weapons, which was really the icing on the cake. Definately recommend!
