Welkom in Ethiopië! Ervaar de hoogtepunten van Addis Abeba tijdens een uitgebreide dagtour. Addis Abeba is het geografische, politieke en culturele centrum van Ethiopië. Addis onderscheidt zich van veel andere Afrikaanse hoofdsteden doordat het niet werd gesticht of ontwikkeld onder koloniaal bewind. Bij aankomst ontmoeten we u op het vliegveld of vanuit uw hotel en beginnen we aan uw Addis Abeba stadstour.

Nationaal Museum is gerangschikt onder de belangrijkste in sub-Sahara Afrika, Verreweg het hoogtepunt is de paleontologische tentoonstelling in de kelder, het huis van de wereldberoemde Lucy. Haar ontdekking in 1974 in de Afar regio in het noordwesten van Ethiopië veranderde ons begrip van de menselijke oorsprong voorgoed. Hier is ook het gefossiliseerde bewijs van enkele verbazingwekkende uitgestorven wezens, zoals de massieve sabeltandkatachtige Homotherium en het gigantische savannevarken Notochoerus. De periferie van de begane grond richt zich op de pre-Aksumitische, Aksumitische, Salomonische en Gonderiaanse periode. Het brede scala aan artefacten omvat een uitgebreide pre-1e-eeuwse bronzen olielamp met een hond die een steenbok najaagt, een fascinerende 4e-eeuwse uit rotsen gehouwen stoel versierd met mythische steenbokken en oude Sabaese inscripties. Op de 1e verdieping is er een levendige tentoonstelling van Ethiopische kunst, variërend van vroeg (mogelijk 14e-eeuws) perkament tot 20e-eeuwse canvas olieverfschilderijen van toonaangevende moderne kunstenaars.
Het Etnologisch Museum van Addis Abeba is een van de beste etnografische musea in Oost-Afrika. Het maakt bezoekers alles te begrijpen over de verschillende culturele groepen van Ethiopië met zijn grote display die zich richt op de levenscyclus - van geboorte tot dood. Geschiedenis, religie, eetcultuur en natuurlijke feiten van het land worden zo mooi beschreven.
Mercato is de grootste openluchtmarkt niet alleen in Addis Abeba of Ethiopië maar in heel Afrika. De must see delen van Merkato zijn de Spice Market, de handgemaakte manden markt, en tweedehands artikelen markt.
Entoto Natuurpark torent hoog boven de hoofdstad uit en is een historisch heiligdom. Natuur uit de Veiled Ancient Era. een unieke plek om de meest adembenemende oude bergnatuur te ontdekken, met beekjes die stromen uit heldere bronnen en watervallen.
In opdracht van keizer Menelik II om zijn verbluffende 1896 nederlaag van de Italianen in Adwa te herdenken, en gewijd aan Sint-Joris (de beschermheilige van Ethiopië), wiens icoon in de strijd werd gedragen, is deze Piazza-kathedraal een van de mooiste kerken van Addis. De grijze stenen buitenkant wordt gemakkelijk overtroffen door de kleur- en kunstflitsen van het interieur. Delen van het plafond gloeien hemelsblauw en pronken met vergulde sterren, terwijl de buitenmuren van het binnenste heiligdom bedekt zijn met schilderijen en mozaïeken van de gerenommeerde Afewerk Tekle. De kerk, gebouwd in traditionele achthoekige vorm en met een strenge neoclassicistische stijl, werd voltooid in 1911 met de hulp van Griekse, Armeense en Indiase kunstenaars. Keizerin Zewditu (in 1916) en keizer Haile Selassie (in 1930) werden hier beiden gekroond.

This was an excellent way to see the highlights of Addis Ababa. Dagi was an excellent guide. The highlight was seeing Lucy! We enjoyed everything about the day. The traditional Ethiopian lunch was a great way to introduce us to real Ethiopian food. Thanks Dagi for a great day.

I have a great time touring city of Addis Ababa on Nov 29 2025. The guide Dagi pick me up from hotel lobby on time. He is fluent in English. He possesses an easy going personality. He has great knowledge of Ethiopia and Addis Ababa on history, culture and current affairs. He explains things very clearly. I gain a lot knowledge from him by listening and asking questions. We have a traditional Ethiopian meal and coffee which is a plus for the exposure of the Ethiopian culture. The driver Suta is polite and professional. He keeps the car clean and comfortable. When I try to take photos from the road, he always slow down and find a good spot for me. His driving skill makes me feeling confident. In addition, he is fairly good in English. He can also provide some valuable insights of Addis Ababa. I highly recommend the tour without reservation.

We took our tour with Teddy and Sultan. Teddy is very knowledable about Ethiopian History and an excellent guide. Our tour included the Mercato, the palace of the Emperor Haile Selassie, coffee house and a traditional Ethiopian Meal at a local coffee house/restaurant. Very personalized and we had a great time. We had the most incredible experience with Armaye Ethiopia tours. With the recommendation of my friends who live in Germany, we contacted Armaye to book a layover tour of Addis Ababa. Armaye really knows a lot about the country, people and history. We were picked up and dropped off at the airport on time. We enjoyed Ethiopian food in a good traditional restaurant. Everything went according to our schedule. The highlight for me was the national museum of Ethiopia where our ancestor Lucy is. In addition to the sights on the list, we even got to immerse ourselves in the culture by having coffee and traditional food with the locals.
