Van de vele tempels op het eiland Phuket is de Wat Chalong-tempel de grootste en meest geprezen. Het tempelcomplex werd in 1837 op zijn huidige locatie gebouwd. Er zijn overblijfselen van oudere structuren gevonden, maar het is niet precies bekend hoe oud ze zijn. Op het grote terrein van Wat Chalong, dat officieel Wat Chaitaram heet, bevinden zich een viharn, een mondop, een ubosot, een chedi met een geheime relikwie, een sala en een crematorium.
Een rondleiding door een cashewnotenfabriek in Phuket is een must voor alle liefhebbers van cashewnoten. De cashewnoot is een product dat in Phuket en andere provincies in Zuid-Thailand wordt geteeld. Ze zijn hier relatief goedkoop vergeleken met de prijzen in Westelijke landen.
Old Phuket Town is een historische wijk in Phuket City. De belangrijkste straten in Old Phuket Town zijn Thalang, Phang Nga, Krabi, Dibuk en Yoawarat. Old Phuket Town staat bekend om zijn straten met aan weerszijden gebouwen in Sino-Portugese stijl. Tijdens de middagtour stoppen we hier voor een stadswandeling van ongeveer 45 minuten. Tijdens de ochtendtour wandelen we alleen door een aantal straten zonder daadwerkelijk te stoppen.
De Grote Boeddha van Phuket is een 45 meter hoog wit marmeren standbeeld dat overal in het zuidelijke deel van Phuket te zien is. Het staat waarschijnlijk bovenaan ieders lijstje met 'Must-Do's in Phuket', en wel om een goede reden. Het uitzicht vanaf het standbeeld is adembenemend. Het is gebouwd met donaties van de bevolking en is nog in aanbouw. Als u graag een bijdrage wilt leveren voor de brede sokkel van de Boeddha, dan kunt u een stuk wit marmer sponsoren voor 300 tot 1.000 baht, afhankelijk van de grootte.

We ad a lovely day with Yoh. She was fun, good energy, and very knowledgeable. We went to several lovely lookouts on the west coast of the island, checked out the big bhudda (mostly closed due to landslide), cashew factory, the temple at wat chalong, and old town phuket.

Our guide was Ada and Taitai was our driver. Ada spoke excellent (if fast!) English and gave explanations for everything we saw and answered all our questions. She came prepared with scarves to cover bare shoulders at the temple which was appreciated. Taitai provided chilled water and towels during the journey. The temple and Phuket old town were our favourites. However the visit to the gem ‘factory’ was not offered as an option, we were just taken there, and personally I felt pressured by the salesperson to look at all the jewellery on sale and to buy something. Nevertheless we had an educational and enjoyable tour.
