Deze regio is altijd een van de grootste en een van de mooiste delen van Azerbeidzjan geweest! Dus als je besluit om andere Azerbeidzjaanse steden te bezoeken, raden we je ten zeerste aan om Quba te bezoeken! Guba is gesticht in de 15e eeuw en ligt 165 km ten noorden van Bakoe. Het dorp Khinaliq is het meest afgelegen dorp van alle andere in Quba. Het is ook het hoogste dorp omdat het midden in de bergen van de Kaukasus ligt. En deze afgelegen ligging is precies wat de inwoners van het dorp heeft geholpen om te overleven van de invasies. De geschiedenis van dit dorp gaat helemaal terug tot de Albanese tijd. De overblijfselen van oude grotten van vroege mensen worden nog steeds achtergelaten in dit gebied tussen de bergen. Vanwege zijn lange geschiedenis wordt het dorp Khinaliq beschouwd als een van de oudste bewoonde plaatsen ter wereld en is het opgenomen in de UNESCO-lijst van wereldhistorische monumenten.

Een van de mooiste stukken weg van Azerbeidzjan loopt ongeveer 40 kilometer van de snelweg Guba-Baku in westelijke richting naar het bergdorpje Altiaghaj. Ongeveer halverwege tussen de twee gaat men door een dramatische vallei geflankeerd door glooiende schaliebergen waarvan de verbazingwekkende rode, oranje, roze en krijtkleurige wervelingen de Britse reisschrijver Mark Elliott (auteur van de zeer populaire 'Azerbeidzjaanse' reisgids) ertoe brachten ze te dubben de Candy Cane Mountains, een naam die sindsdien bij reizigers blijft hangen.
Iets meer dan een uur rijden ten noordwesten van Bakoe langs de Guba-snelweg ligt een 382 meter hoge berg waarvan de bizarre vorm er lang geleden toe leidde dat hij de berg Beshbarmag werd genoemd, wat Azerbeidzjaans is voor 'Vijfvingerberg'. Volgens de legende waagde ergens in het verre verleden een profeet genaamd Khidr zich hier op zoek naar een 'drankje van het leven' en bereikte onsterfelijkheid nadat hij had gedronken uit een bron op de top. Tegenwoordig is de berg in mysterie gehuld en komen de lokale bevolking hier om te bidden voor kracht en geluk.
Qechresh is een van de grootste dorpen in de Guba-regio. Het gebied is aan alle kanten bebost. Qechresh is beroemd om zijn natuurlijke bronnen en planten.
Qriz Bridge. Opgehangen tussen steile kliffen en omgeven door dramatische landschappen, is deze plek een van de meest pittoreske in de regio. De brug biedt een perfecte achtergrond voor onvergetelijke foto's, waardoor het een favoriete stop is voor reizigers en fotografen
Als je verder gaat van het Gechresh-bos, bevind je je in de Gudyalchay-canyons: steile beklimmingen en afdalingen van de weg gaan door de steile wanden van de kloof. De weg die door twee bergen loopt, steile kliffen en prachtige bossen maken het uitzicht op dit dorp charmant.
Onderweg naar Khinaliq dorp maken we een stop bij het adembenemende Eagle Top uitkijkpunt. Deze natuurlijke bezienswaardigheid, hoog in de bergen gelegen, biedt een panoramisch uitzicht op diepe valleien en kronkelende wegen. De plaats is vernoemd naar de adelaarvormige rotsformatie en de frequente aanblik van wilde adelaars die in de lucht zweven. We stoppen hier om prachtige foto's te maken van de prachtige berglandschappen en te genieten van de frisse Kaukasuslucht.

Khinalig is een oud Kaukasisch dorp dat dateert uit de Kaukasische Albanese periode. Het ligt ten noorden van Guba, midden in de bergen van de Grotere Kaukasus, die Rusland en de Zuidelijke Kaukasus verdelen, op een hoogte van 2100 - 2200 meter boven zeeniveau over de rivier de Kudialchay. Beroemd om zijn taal, eigenaardige gebruiken en tradities. Tegenwoordig wonen er ongeveer tweeduizend mensen in Khinalig. Bijna de gehele bevolking is inheems. In Khinalig behouden hun taal voor meer dan 4000 jaar.

Ophaallocaties en -tijden
De tour begint om ongeveer 08.00 uur in de buurt van de parkeergarage naast de oude stad (Icherisheher). Wij bieden ook pick-up van centrale hotels in Bakoe, met uitzondering van hotels gelegen aan Nizami Street (voetgangers / winkelen gebied) of in de oude stad. In deze gevallen worden gasten vriendelijk verzocht om naar het aangewezen ontmoetingspunt te komen. Ophalen begint meestal 30–40 minuten voor het vertrek van de tour. De exacte ophaal- of vergadertijd wordt een dag voor de tourdatum via WhatsApp of e-mail verstuurd.

I really appreciate when the homeowner at Khinaliq village where we have our lunch allowed me to perform my prayer at her house. The Khinaliq village is unique, such a place that tradition was preserved. Love this trip.

Ruslan is an excellent guide who provided us with comprehensive information about the places we visited, he’s also a very responsible driver, the whole drive from Baku to Khinalig was very smooth, without excessive speed and we felt safe on all the sections of the road. The highlight of the tour was the village of Khinalig which is very special and authentic. We also had a nice lunch there included in the tour program. There was also a friendly dog who accompanied us as we hiked through the village. Overall, we definitely recommend this tour and Ruslan as a guide.

I enjoyed the trip to Xinalyk with Leyla, the tour guide. Everything was so organised. They picked me up from the hotel. During the trip, Leyla took photos and video for us. The views of landscapes and mountains was stunning. In the highest village we had delisious lunch. If you travel to Baku, please visit Khinalig. This place definitely deserves your time.

The tour is very interesting but unfortunately the weather wasn't good, a heavy snow started when we got Khinalug, the way to go up was completely white but with care the cars got the village, but it was very difficult on the way back, both cars had serious problems to driving through the snowed road and they both slippered on the road, one of them had no chains and the other one even with chains was difficult to manage. The drivers asked to walked down so many meters, about 20 or 30minuts trought the snow, we were really afraid as was getting dark and the way down were 2h driving on that terrible road. The forecast was that snow was coming theses days, it was not unexpected, no plan b at all to get down, the tour should be cancel on these conditions. Leyla, our guide was very kind, helpful and very professional all the time. Thanks Leyla! she explained all history and details.

We would like to clarify an important point: weather conditions in mountainous regions such as Khinalug are unpredictable and are not something a tour operator can control. Snowfall in winter is absolutely normal for this area and cannot be considered a failure of the tour organization. Also the statement that guests had to walk 20–30 minutes is not accurate. The walking distance was approximately 5–10 minutes only, and it was requested strictly for safety reasons. This section of the road has a very steep slope and was the most snow-covered part of the entire route. We did not want to take any unnecessary risks with vehicles on that specific stretch. It is important to note that this was the only section where guests were asked to walk. All other parts of the route were passed without difficulty by the vehicles, and there were no issues elsewhere. Our main priority is always the safety of our guests. Despite the difficult weather conditions, our drivers managed the situation professionally and ensured that everyone returned safely. The decision to walk part of the way was taken purely for safety reasons, which is always more important than comfort or speed. We do not operate tours when we know in advance that conditions are impossible or roads are closed. In this case, the road was open, and the situation changed during the tour — something that can happen in mountain areas anywhere in the world. We also kindly remind that guests are free to check the weather forecast themselves and decide whether they feel comfortable joining a mountain tour, especially in winter. Lowering the rating solely due to weather conditions is therefore unfair, as this is beyond the control of the guide, drivers, or company.
