Het bloedbad in Srebrenica, ook bekend als de genocide in Srebrenica, was de genocide in juli 1995 van meer dan 8.000 Bosniaks, voornamelijk mannen en jongens, in en rond de stad Srebrenica tijdens de Bosnische oorlog. De moorden werden gepleegd door eenheden van het Bosnische Servische leger van Republika Srpska (VRS) onder het commando van Ratko Mladić. Je zult de val van Joegoslavië begrijpen, hoe en waarom het bloedbad plaatsvond.

De stad Srebrenica ligt op ongeveer twee en een half uur van de stad Sarajevo. Terwijl u van het landschap kunt genieten, beginnen we onze presentatie met gedetailleerde verhalen, chronologisch geordend, zodat u een complexe kwestie van "Joegoslavische oorlogen" begrijpt, die cruciaal is voor uw begrip van de genocide van Srebrenica. Onze eerste stop is voor de batterijfabriek, gebruikt door VN-troepen tijdens de oorlog in Bosnië. In het vorige hoofdkwartier van het Nederlandse bataljon bevindt zich nu een van de modernste musea in Bosnië en Herzegovina, "Museum of Srebrenica Genocide". Daar zullen we de curator ontmoeten en het verhaal uit de eerste hand ervaren over het overleven in de enclave Srebrenica. Museum is uitgerust met multimedia-faciliteiten met een selectie van films, die u zullen helpen gebeurtenissen te begrijpen die hebben geleid tot het ergste bloedbad in Europa sinds de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Vanuit Museum of Srebrenica Genocide gaan we verder naar Memorial Room, waar je de verhalen van de slachtoffers kunt horen die zijn gemaakt door een lokale journalist. Slachtoffers die werden gevonden en geïdentificeerd, rusten op de begraafplaats Memorial. Nadat we het Potocari Memorial Centre hebben bezocht, vervolgen we onze reis naar de stad Srebrenica. Ooit is de industriële leider in het gebied nu een spookstad. Srebrenica is ook de locatie voor de lunch, want er zijn niet veel restaurants in de buurt van Potocari Memorial Centre.

Kenan was absolutely outstanding from start to finish. He was friendly, professional, knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about making sure we had the best possible experience. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and his local knowledge really added something special to the trip. He took the time to explain the places we visited, answered all our questions and made us feel completely comfortable throughout. He was punctual, patient and incredibly helpful, and we never felt rushed at any point. What really stood out was the personal attention he gave us. It felt much more like travelling with a knowledgeable local friend than simply having a guide. His warmth, professionalism and attention to detail made the whole experience memorable. A visit to Srebrenica is essential to understand what happened there in July 1995. You visit the memorial and the interpretation center-museum, located in the old warehouses where the Dutchbat troops were stationed, in Potočari, right in front of the memorial. All the documentary information about those tragic events is there. Regarding the visit, there is a flaw in what is offered versus reality: it is true that they pick you up and drop you off at the hotel (in our case, Kenan was the guide). But no water or snacks are offered, nor were we in a vehicle with a Wi-Fi connection, just as is advertised. In short, the visit is a must so as not to forget how far human evil can go.
Great tour, very emotional and informative. A must when in Bosnia! Kenan was an amazing guide. He answered all our questions and even gave us recommendations on where to go in Sarajevo. Highly recommended!

Keenan was a very considerate and knowledgable host. He answered any questions we had fully. It’s quite a difficult trip but we felt it was important to be aware and pay our respects to the fallen.
The museum was located at the former UN Dutch Battalion Headquarters. The exhibition is well designed. Worth a visit if you are interested to learn about the atrocities that took place in July 1995. A special thanks to our guide Kenan, who is very helpful and happy to answer all our questions.
It was a great experience, with good knowledge from the tour guide. I did have to contact the tour operator to confirm my pick-up location. Overall, a recommended trip.
