Uw tour door deze ongelooflijke archeologische site begint direct naast de parkeerplaats, waar het pad naar de ruïnes begint. Vanaf hier volgt u gewoon dit pad om een oude, fascinerende ruïne te ontdekken. OPMERKING : De tour is meer dan 1,5 mijl lang, met meer dan 28 audio verhalen, en duurt ongeveer 1 - 2 uur te voltooien. Nieuw, Levenslang toegang, geen vervaldatum. Het eerste grote herkenningspunt dat je tegenkomt is de Casa Cenote. Je stapt door de ingang en waant je helemaal in een andere wereld.
Links van ons staat de Platforma Funeraria, waar de oude Maya's hun begrafenisrituelen uitvoerden. Voordat een lichaam werd begraven of gecremeerd, stopten de Maya's maïs in hun mond. Dit diende als voedsel voor hun reis naar de volgende wereld, maar vertegenwoordigde ook leven en wedergeboorte.
Het is onmogelijk om de volgende halte, El Castillo, te missen. Het kasteel, dat op 40 voet staat, werd gebouwd ter ere van de Maya-god Kukulkan en staat op het hoogste punt in Tulum, waardoor het toch al imposante bouwwerk nog opvallender wordt.
Terwijl je blijft lopen, zie je de Tempel van Fresco's, bekend om zijn gedetailleerde schilderijen van verschillende Maya-goden.
Daarna bezoek je de Tempel van de Wind, een van de meest interessante bouwwerken in Tulum. De tempel ligt bovenop een klif en werd gebouwd om te dienen als waarschuwing voor naderende stormen. De ronde platforms die hier te zien zijn, geven aan dat dit een tempel is voor de windgod.
Het genie van de Maya-architectuur wordt belichaamd in dit gebouw, The House of Chultun. Hier zorgde het opvangen van regenwater ervoor dat de mensen in Tulum genoeg vers water hadden voor al hun behoeften. Het gebouw is zo gestructureerd dat regenwater in het reservoir zou wegstromen.
Als je goed kijkt, zie je dat er een ingewikkeld web van gaten in de tempel zit. Wanneer orkaankrachtwinden uit het Caribisch gebied waaien, beginnen de gaten luid te fluiten en fungeren ze als een efficiënt waarschuwingssysteem.
Ga nu verder voorbij het platform en stop voor de ruïnes van een huis aan de rechterkant. Dit is Casa del Noreste, of het Northwest House. Dit huis zou de thuisbasis zijn geweest van belangrijke leden van de Maya-samenleving.
Er zijn nisvormige beeldjes van de Maya ‘Descending God’ of Venus die prominent aanwezig zijn op de voorgevel van de tempel, wat het werk van ambachtslieden uit het Maya-tijdperk weerspiegelt. De “Descending God” manifesteert zich als een stucwerk figuur op de westelijke muur in de tempel die zich in het centrale deel van de site bevindt, wat de tempel zijn naam geeft als de “Tempel van de Descending God”.

First off got scammed by a chicklet toothed local. Wouldn't accept the ticket we purchased so we had to drive back go the area we purchased it at. Eventually we got into the park. After hearing how “beautiful” it was I had a bit of hope…. NOPE! Totally desolate unkept area. Absolutely zero effort into making it a complete gem( which is an total loss to the country) not sure why there is so much garbage and unkept areas in a place that could be majestic!
This review appears to be unrelated to my self-guided audio tour product. My Tulum Mayan Ruins GPS Walking Audio Tour is a digital audio guide, and it does not include park entry, ticket validation, or interaction with local vendors. Your comments focus on issues with a local person, ticket acceptance, and the condition of the Tulum site itself, but do not mention the audio, narration, route guidance, app functionality, or overall tour experience. Because of this, it seems the review is about the attraction and third-party entry issues rather than my tour. I’m also not able to locate a booking under this name. If you did use my tour, I would genuinely like to hear about your experience with it.
Good app and easy to download. We found it best to download when we had wifi and then log out of it (even switch off the phone to remove the blue quick open button top left) so that it didn’t use up all our battery power. Best to take a separate power bank in case your phone runs low. Sometimes the section didn’t play, probably more to do with us not being in the right spot, but easy enough to just click on the list and tap it manually. Really liked the voice of the narrator and the helpful photos.

This is an excellent option as you can go at your own pace. Since it tracks your location, the narration keeps quiet and lets you go off-route and stay as long as you want at different spots. It starts with the narration when you return to the route. People who went with guides felt rushed through the tour because the human guide wanted to be done and get back to the start to meet other groups.

This app was a great find! Lots of interesting info and a good intro to Mayan history and culture, before and after encounter with the Spanish. Allows you to explore at your own pace and really enjoy the ruins and the scenic location. In my view, the best way to explore Tulum ruins! Ppl kept asking us where we got the app!

I highly recommend this app! In my opinion, this is the best way to explore the Tulum ruins. The app gives you a good introduction to Mayan history and culture before and after encounter with the Spanish, and gives you details about each spot in the ruins. The audio description pops up as you approach the next stop on the map. If it doesn’t, it’s easy to pull up the map and see where you are then click on the appropriate description. Allows you to explore at your own pace at a great price!
