Tudor Cardiff : een audiotour op maat

Lang geleden vervaagde Tudor Cardiff in de geschiedenis, samen met bijna alle gebouwen. Tegenwoordig is Cardiff een bruisende, moderne stad, dus het is moeilijk te geloven dat het in het midden van de jaren 1500 slechts een kleine haven en marktstad aan de rivier de Taff was. Tijdens deze GPS-wandeltocht kijk je verder dan de moderne gebouwen naar de aanwijzingen die het verhaal van de stad vertellen over roem en beruchtheid in de dagen van de machtige Tudor-dynastie. Terwijl je door het stadscentrum trekt, wijs ik de enige twee overgebleven Tudor-gebouwen aan en onthult de merkwaardige oorsprong van enkele van Cardiffs straatnamen zoals Womanby, Golate en Wharton Streets. Je hoort hoe het leven was in Tudor Cardiff, inclusief hoe verschillend de dagelijkse diëten van rijk en arm waren en hoe geletterdheid betekende dat er verschillende wetten waren voor de verschillende sociale klassen. En op weg naar Bute Park, waar de tour eindigt, kom je langs de opvallende toren van St John The Baptist City Parish Church, Gorsedd Stone Circle, en het spectaculaire Cardiff Castle.

You take your time, spritely comments and lots of information. Very unique historical take; you could go back n forth and repeat as needed;
A beautiful, surprising and educating tour of a city I have visited and stayed in many times over the years. James captures your attention with the sounds and descriptions of Tudor life, from the rich to the poor. I could truly picture how different Cardiff is now to how it was then. Thank you a wonderful morning sent in Tudor Cardiff.

Great, easy listening experience. I did get a bit turned around in the Bute park area because I assumed we’d be walking along the pathways but if you walk over the grass, you should be fine.

I'd never heard of such audio tours but was looking for things to do in Cardiff whilst I had some free time, and this popped up. I took the plunge and it was so easy to follow. And so much fun! Alongside the narration there was often Tudor music and sound effects (what it would have sounded like in Tudor times, where I was stood) which made it even better as I felt immersed in the atmosphere and could then really take in the facts and descriptions. Walking through the park whilst the Friars were chanting was a beautiful moment, and I loved learning about some of the different parts of the castle & its links to Tudors. I think this may become a bit of an obsession - that evening I made a list of audio tours to do next - they're everywhere! I hope they're as good as this one 😁
