Onze tour begint bij de stadspoort: de Porta Nigra (Zwarte Poort). Dit UNESCO-werelderfgoed werd gebouwd in 180 na Christus. Het gebouw werd later omgebouwd tot twee kerken en werd gerenoveerd door Napoleon. Op weg naar de Grote Markt stoppen we om foto's te maken van het Dreikönigenhaus (Huis van de Drie Wijzen), een uniek gebouw uit de 13e eeuw. Op de Hauptmarkt (grote markt) zullen we zijn charmante vakwerkhuizen en zijn vele middeleeuwse attracties bewonderen, zoals het 15e-eeuwse gotische huis genaamd Steipe en de 16e-eeuwse marktfontein. Daarna bezoeken we de kathedraal van Trier, gebouwd in de 4e eeuw en beschouwd als de oudste kerk van Duitsland. We zullen ook de zuidkant van de kerk zien, die in de 12e eeuw werd verwoest en vervolgens werd vervangen door de Liebfrauenkirche (kerk van Onze-Lieve-Vrouw), beschouwd als de vroegste gotische kerk in Duitsland. Onze volgende stop is bij de Konstantin-Basilika (Romeinse keizerlijke troonzaal). Dit gigantische bouwwerk is 's werelds grootste overgebleven Romeinse zaal en werd gebouwd voor keizer Constantijn. Direct naast Konstantin-Basilika vinden we het Electoral Palace, een 17e-eeuws rococo-gebouw dat als het mooiste in zijn soort wordt beschouwd. Onze laatste stop is bij de Kaiserthermen (keizerlijke baden), waar we terug in de tijd zullen reizen door het ondergrondse labyrint te bezoeken en meer te weten te komen over de geschiedenis ervan.

We had family visiting from the states, we planned the tour to try squeeze in as much as possible into their short stay, the guide never showed up. When we called they had the wrong time for our tour. We booked at 11am and they had down 3pm, we have several emails confirming 11am. It’s been over a week and we are still waiting on our refund.

Rudolf was waiting for us when we arrived early. He was a wealth of knowledge and had a great sense of dry humor. I did this tour with Rudolf. I took a train out from Luxembourgh city and met him by the black gate. I saw a lot in the two hours. The gate, the churches, and the Roman baths were highlights. He was a nice man.

Michael was a very knowledgeable guide. He had a portfolio of very interesting drawings and images showing how buildings and areas of the city looked in their times ie Roman, Gothic, Renaissance etc. It was a very informative tour which I highly recommend.
