De Base Torres-trektocht is een van de populairste groepsrondleidingen in Puerto Natales, een perfect alternatief voor reizigers die maar één dag hebben om Torres del Paine te bezoeken, maar de ongelooflijke uitzichten van de Mirador Base Torres niet willen missen. Deze tocht wordt het hele jaar door aangeboden. Zelfs in de winter worden veel reizigers aangemoedigd om naar het uitkijkpunt te wandelen (voor wintertochten worden stijgijzers gebruikt om de veiligheid van de groep van maximaal 15 personen te garanderen). Naast vervoer en berguitrusting omvat de tocht een professionele gids en een assistent, dus alle reizigers worden begeleid, ongeacht de snelheid waarmee u loopt.

Moeilijkheidsgraad: Medium - 12.43 mi - 20 km (8 uur) - Starthoogte: 295 ft boven zeeniveau (90 m) - Maximale hoogte: 2855 ft boven zeeniveau (870 m) - De tour begint met ophalen bij je accommodatie en afhankelijk van je locatie arriveren we tussen 6:30 en 07:00 uur. Nadat de groep is samengesteld, geeft onze gids ons trekkingstokken en informeert ons over de tour, vooral over de trek naar Base Torres. We gaan dan naar Torres del Paine National Park. In het winterseizoen zijn de groepen klein, met één gids per 4 reizigers. In het zomerseizoen kunnen groepen tot 21 personen hebben, met één gids voor elke 6 reizigers om zich aan te passen aan verschillende wandeltempo's. Zo worden alle deelnemers altijd begeleid. Het is gebruikelijk dat kleinere groepen van 7-10 personen zich langs de route vormen, wat een meer gepersonaliseerde ervaring biedt.
Na de twee uur durende rit in de shuttlebus komen we via de Porteria Amarga Sector aan bij de ingang van het Nationaal Park. Vanaf het moment dat we het park binnenrijden, genieten we van het indrukwekkende uitzicht op Torres del Paine.
Op dit punt begint u aan de tocht naar de sector Hostería Las Torres. Tijdens de tocht van ongeveer vier uur steken we de Ascensio-vallei over en lopen we door het gezellige Lenga-bos. We zien ook de Almirante Nieto-heuvel vanuit verschillende perspectieven terwijl we onze weg vervolgen. Aan het einde van dit gedeelte beklimmen we een gletsjermorene (rotsachtig pad met een steile helling), totdat we onze bestemming bereiken, het uitkijkpunt Base Torres.
Met deze ongelooflijke uitzichten eten we lunch, maken we foto's en dalen we af naar het kleine strand dat gevormd wordt door het meer. Raak het water aan en bewonder het adembenemende uitzicht vanaf het strand. Na deze stop komt de hele groep bijeen en begint de afdaling, dit gedeelte duurt ongeveer drie uur. De shuttlebus brengt ons vervolgens terug naar Puerto Natales. Tussen 20:00 en 21:00 uur arriveert de bus bij onze accommodatie en eindigt deze dag vol wandelen, opwinding en herinneringen aan de voet van Torres del Paine.

This is a unique experience and, without a doubt, the best I have ever experienced. It is important to consider that it is highly conditioned by the climate. The guide was transparent from the outset and offered an appropriate service for this type of expedition, which helps minimize risks.

Great communication with the guides from the moment we booked, through pick‑up, and all the way until we were back at the hotel. The scenery was stunning from beginning to end. We enjoyed sunshine for the first four hours, followed by the classic Patagonian mix of clouds and rain — still absolutely beautiful. This guided tour/trek was a great way to hike Base Torres! Pablo and Sebastian were fantastic guides- knowledgeable and patient. It’s a tough hike, especially the last hour, even as someone who works out and runs regularly. I almost gave up with 30-40 minutes to go, but so glad I finished as the views were amazing. The descent was nearly as tough but well worth the pain!

I'm gonna start by saying that Viator needs to change this to a difficult level of hike. If you have any sort of ankle or knee issues, stay away. The view, the hike, all worth it. And our experience may be very dependent on the tour guide we had. Despite having ample time, the whole experience felt rushed, and there was little regard for the physical fitness level of the people hiking (we were a very small group of 4). Even after arriving to the top in a relatively quick pace, we were rushed down the mountain, not only making it dangerous, and painful, but also not really allowing us to take ok the views or take pictures. Carlos was nice but his music ok the morning was incredibly loud (before 7am) and we just didn't feel like he wanted us to enjoy the experience and it was more about getting it done. We were back at our hotel by 6:30 pm. Which really surprised us since he said we'd be back to the national park parking lot around 7 pm.
