Township Tour in Kaapstad Zuid-Afrika

Mzu contacted me the night before, which was a lovely introduction to our tour. I mentioned several things we wanted to omit and Mzu readily agreed. We also discussed things to bring to donate, as I am opposed to handing our unhealthy candy to children. Mzu also mentioned clothing as it’s winter now, so we were able to collect a variety of gently used clothes. OSS picked us up the next day, and as my daughter said, it was the best township tour she had ever taken. Oss was informative, and he helped us to see the history of the township. We walked around Langa. Stopping at a fascinating organic farm, where we had a delicious herbal tea. Oss explained the different levels of housing in Langa, and we visited people in one of the hostels. A sobering experience, but something everyone should see! We stopped at the art center and saw the various arts being made! We recommend imzu tours to everyone. A safe, informative way to learn about some of the difficult parts of apartheid.

Led by an enthusiastic guide we entered the township. I noticed that despite the poverty people are friendly and cheerful. In close proximity to our guide I did not feel unsafe; he knew a lot of people and comes from there himself. Moreover, he himself has set up initiatives to improve the community. The proceeds of the tour will also benefit these initiatives .

What can I say about this tour? I guess it is what you imagine it would be like and at the same time, it isn’t. It’s fascinating and surprising on a number of levels. We learned so much about the history of the township and what life is like for the people there. Was worried that we might feel awkward, but we experienced nothing but kindness and warmth. Beforehand, we were worried about safety, but once in, that dissipated. You are totally safe with Mzu and Ox, the guides, who were fantastic. My ten year old made friends and wants to go back!

We had an excellent experience on this township tour in Cape Town. Mzu was incredibly friendly and eager to answer all of our questions, making the entire experience feel welcoming and genuine. I'd highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to gain a deeper understanding of everyday life in South Africa. Mzu's deep roots in the community meant we could navigate the area comfortably and naturally — people knew him everywhere we went, which opened up conversations and moments that simply wouldn't have been possible otherwise. We learned so much, and I truly don't think this kind of authentic, meaningful experience would have been possible without Mzu as our guide. If you're visiting Cape Town and want to go beyond the typical tourist experience, this tour is a must.

I thought the tour was incredibly good! Mzu was very polite and humorous, we laughed a lot. At the same time, he informed me very comprehensively about the sad issue of apartheid and introduced me to the culture of the township. The people there were all warm, welcoming and friendly. I really enjoyed the tour. I would highly recommend them!

Excellent. A great guide. I was surprised at the diversity of the Township. Definitely worth doing on a trip to SA. Bring some sweets/candy for the kids you'll meet.

A tour with various aspects that highlight life in the township of Langa. Guide Mzu (and Ox) passionately share their lives and show what is happening in the community including Mzu's own projects for which respect. A must for anyone who wants to see more of the real life of South Africa.

Our tour of Langa Tosnship was a highlight of our trip to South Africa. We learned a lot about what had happened in Langa both before and after apartheid. Our guide, Ox, seemed to know everyone who lives in Langa and shared his insider’s perspective of the township 👍!!
