De oude binnenstad van Toledo is sinds 1986 door UNESCO uitgeroepen tot werelderfgoedstad. Tijdens onze tour wandelen we langs straten en pleinen vol geschiedenis en tonen we de enorme rijkdom en pracht van de oude hoofdstad van Spanje, de stad die algemeen bekend staat als "De stad van drie culturen"
De oudste schriftelijke documenten die we hebben van joden in Toledo dateren uit de vierde eeuw, in de Romeinse tijd, hoewel het mogelijk is dat ze zich voor die tijd in de stad hebben gevestigd. Tijdens onze tour zullen we door de smalle straatjes van de oude Joodse wijk lopen en de belangrijkste monumenten en ondergrondse archeologische overblijfselen bezoeken die deze Joodse wijk tot een van de belangrijkste in Europa maakten.
De synagoge van El Tránsito, ook bekend als de synagoge van Samuel Leví, werd gebouwd nadat de penningmeester van koning Peter I de bouw in 1355 had besteld. Hoewel het bouwen van nieuwe synagogen op dat moment niet was toegestaan, was de goedkeuring van de bouw van koning Peter I de manier van bedanken. de joodse gemeenschap voor het ondersteunen van hem in de oorlog tegen zijn broer Enrique de Trastámara. Binnen in de synagoge kunnen we de ongelooflijke gebedsruimte bewonderen die is versierd met rijk pleisterwerk en het Nationaal Museum voor Sefardische Cultuur.
De synagoge van Santa María la Blanca was een van de elf synagogen die tot het einde van de veertiende eeuw in Toledo stonden. Dit is een van de oudste in Europa en werd gebouwd aan het einde van de twaalfde eeuw of het begin van de dertiende eeuw in Mudejar-stijl. De oosterse stijl kan ook worden gewaardeerd in de soberheid van de exterieurdecoratie, die het tegenovergestelde is van de prachtige versiering in het interieur.

We bieden ook de mogelijkheid om u op te halen bij uw hotel in Madrid, om comfortabel naar Toledo te reizen in een luxe auto met privéchauffeur. Javier was AMAZING! His family has been in Toledo for generations. He was so kind and knew everything there was to know about Toledo and its history. He shared so much information about the Jewish history of the area and we had a wonderful time with him!!
It was an amazing tour. Dani our guide was extremely be knowledgable and informative. We never had a dull moment. If we were going on this tour we would definitely ask for Dani.
Our tour guide Sonia was a delight and absolute highlight of our trip! She was able to engage our very diverse family on many different levels. She also was also incredibly, sensitive and able to contextualise the very beautiful and complicated history of Jewish life in Spain in deep and relevant ways. I would recommend this tour in general and Sonia specifically as a priority to any Jewish family visiting Toledo.

My family and I really enjoyed and got tremendous benefits from our 3 hour tour with Sonia. She’s a native daughter of Toledo with deep educational and professional tourism experience. She met us at the train station and had a taxi waiting for us. She suggested we take a longer ride into the city to take in 2 important and gorgeous views of the city from outside the walls. This also helped orient us. We requested the tour to include a lot of the Jewish history and some El Greco, so we focused on the 2 synagogues, the Jewish Corner, a recently discovered cave from a Jewish home, the Jewish Quartter and El Greco’e masterpiece. At each stop and along the way, Sonia provided rich details and pointed out good places to return to on our own later in the day. I highly recommend touring with Sonia or another local guide. It would have been helpful to go to the Cathedral with Sonia as well, however, we didn’t have time due to our other priorities. The tour company reached out in advance, soon after I booked, with other helpful tips including suggested restaurants and train booking encouragement.
Javier,our guide, was was very personable, professional , competent and explained the sites in a clear historical context. He was well versed in the religious symbols, holidays and practices. He was attentive to our physical capabilities and needs. He exceeded our expectations .

Our guide, Fernando (Nando), was very entertaining and informative. He provided excellent insight into the Jewish history of Toledo as well as the overall history of the city from Moorish conquest through the Inquisition and beyond. The pace of the walk was quick but unhurried. The tour accomplished our desired objective.
Sonia was super knowledgeable and personable during the tour. She answered all our questions and told us so much about the history and about how this reflects on present-day Spanish society and culture. She made sure my mother, who has some trouble walking, felt safe on the cobblestone streets and had ample time to rest.
Danny was a wonderful, knowledgeable, passionate professional who made the experience an exceptional one. He went out of his way to accommodate us when we were unable to locate the meeting point and literally walked us through via FaceTime to find our car. Committed to historical details, he was an excellent communicator and made the Jewish history of Toledo come alive. Highly recommend.
