De Ramappatempel, ook bekend als de Rudreshwaratempel, is een Hindoetempel in Kakatiya-stijl gewijd aan de hindoegod Shiva. Een inscriptie in de tempel zegt dat het werd gebouwd in het jaar 1213 CE door Recharla Rudra Reddy – een generaal van Kakatiya heerser Ganapati Deva (r. 1199–1262). Gelegen in de nabijheid van het Ramappameer, werd het Ramappa-tempelcomplex dat uit drie tempels bestaat gebouwd tussen 1212 en 1234, ontworpen en architect door Ramappa – naar wie het tempelcomplex is vernoemd. Marco Polo noemde de tempel tijdens zijn bezoek aan het Kakatiya-rijk zogenaamd "de helderste ster in het sterrenstelsel van tempels". De Ramappatempel staat op een 1,8 m hoog stervormig platform. De hal voor het heiligdom heeft talrijke gebeeldhouwde pilaren die zijn geplaatst om een effect te creëren dat licht en ruimte prachtig combineert. De tempel is vernoemd naar de beeldhouwer Ramappa, die hem bouwde, waardoor het de enige tempel in India is die naar zijn ambachtsman is vernoemd.
Duizend pijler tempel De meest populaire plek om te bezoeken in Warangal is de Duizend Pilaren Tempel, gelegen aan de voet van Hanamkonda heuvel. Het werd gebouwd in de 12e eeuw door de Kakatiya koning Rudra Deva. Deze tempel is voornamelijk gewijd aan Heer Shiva en staat ook bekend onder de naam Sri Rudreshwara Swamy Tempel. In deze tempel worden drie goden aanbeden: Heer Shiva, Heer Vishnu en Heer Surya. Ze staan bekend als Trikutalayam. Er zijn drie heiligdommen, een voor elke godheid. Momenteel onder het onderhoud van Archaeological Survey of India restaureerden ze prachtig een deel van het Mandapam-gebied, Thousand Pillar Temple staat bekend om ingewikkeld gesneden pilaren. Een massieve sculptuur van Nandi, uitgehouwen uit een enkele rots, is een andere attractie van deze tempel. Rotsgehakte olifanten en prachtige gravures bij de tempel zijn ook de moeite waard. .
Warangal fort, dat dateert uit de 13e eeuw, de stad dankt zijn naam aan het Telugu woord Orugallu – ‘Oru’ betekent één en het woord ‘gallu’ betekent steen. Vandaar dat de stad ook bekend staat als Ekasila Nagaram. Het diende als hoofdstad voor grote Kakatiya heersers, tussen de 12e en 14e eeuw. De Kakatiya’s, die meer dan 200 jaar over deze plek heersten, hebben grote monumenten en architectonische wonderen gebouwd, zoals het beroemde Warangal fort. Warangal Fort, dat een hoofdattractie van de stad is, ligt verspreid over een straal van bijna vijf kilometer tussen Warangal en Hanamkonda. Gebouwd in de 13e eeuw, tijdens het bewind van de Kakatiya koning Ganapati Deva, Warangal fort is bekend om zijn sierlijk gesneden bogen en pilaren, met vier grote stenen poorten. De Archeologische Dienst van India heeft dit fort vermeld als een Monument van Nationaal Belang. Het Warangal Fort is opgebouwd uit drie concentrische cirkelvormige muren met verdedigingswerken.

Wonderful experience learning about the Kakatiyas. Visited the Ramappa temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple carries a lot of history and I learnt so much thanks to my guide. It was an experience like no other. Takes one way back to the 12th century when the temple was built. This UNESCO monument is a must visit. You’ll go home more knowledgeable than you left 🤭 I also had the opportunity to visit The Thousand Pillar Temple which is dedicated to three deities namely Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Surya. Being a person who is open to learning and understanding other religions, this excursion meant a lot to me. Our last stop was the Warangal Fort which served as capital of the great Kakatiya rulers. Come with an open mind to learn a lot of history. I can’t miss to appreciate my guide Mr. Sainath the historian 🤭 This man understands his craft and is so passionate about it. He loves what he does and he is so calm, accommodating, deep and his customer service is tops. He makes understanding the history of the Kakatiyas so easy. I would highly recommend him for this excursion. This was one guided excursion I would repeat again thanks to the organizers and a very competent guide. 100% recommend.

We had an amazing trip to see these 3 temples of different eras. Incredibly interesting and even more special as we got blessings at each temple. Srinu was a brilliant guide and knowledgeable host and there was no question too stupid from us!! We also had a wonderful veg Thalia in Warangal. It is a long drive but worth it and you escape the craziness oh Hyderabad. Tip - wear flip flops as easy for temples and especially if it rains. If it is during Rainey season wear shorts and raincoat as you can get saturated and long trousers wet aren’t comfortable for a long day. Great day trip!

Fantastic day, early start at 6.30am but well worth getting up early for. Beautiful scenery along the way, and the Temples of Kakatiya were breathtaking.Such a peaceful place, my guide Srinu was full of knowledge about everything, very interesting to learn from.
