Tanah Lot betekent "Land [in de] Zee" in de Balinese taal. Gelegen in Tabanan, ongeveer 20 kilometer (12 mijl) van Denpasar, bevindt de tempel zich op een grote rots voor de kust die in de loop der jaren continu is gevormd door het getij van de oceaan. De Tanah Lot-tempel is gebouwd en maakt al eeuwenlang deel uit van de Balinese mythologie. De tempel is een van de zeven zeetempels langs de Balinese kust. Elk van de zeetempels werd opgericht in het zicht van de volgende om een keten langs de zuidwestelijke kust te vormen. Naast de Balinese mythologie werd de tempel aanzienlijk beïnvloed door het hindoeïsme.

Taman Ayun-tempel vertaalt zich letterlijk als 'prachtige tuin' en wordt algemeen beschouwd als een van de meest aantrekkelijke tempels op Bali. De Taman Ayun tempel ligt in een prachtig park met bomen en vijvers nabij het dorp Mengwi in het zuiden van Bali, ongeveer 8 km ten zuidwesten van Ubud en 18 km ten noordwesten van Denpasar. Pura Taman Ayun werd in 1634 gebouwd door de Raja van Mengwi, I Gusti Agung Putu. Het is een zogenaamde Pura Kawiten, of familietempel, een bijzondere tempel waar de vergoddelijkte voorouders van de Raja-dynastie van Mengwi en belangrijke goden van andere tempels worden geëerd.

The driver/guide, Nik was very tentative on what we needed, on time, guided us through the sights, waited patiently for us to take all those beautiful photos of the temples. We had a wonderful time, although the traffic was bad and it was cloudy no dramatic sunset. We highly recommend this tour and Nik as your guide.

Nik was able to weave his way thru the heavy Bali traffic, made worse by road and bridge closures after the recent deadly floods, and get us to both temples with plenty of time to enjoy them. We even managed to squeeze in a visit to a coffee plantation - well done Nik! The temples were peaceful and quiet and filled us with a sense of calm and serenity. Well worth the visit.

Well worth the trip! We were picked up directly from our villa in Seminyak. Putu our guide/driver was early, and did an excellent job of getting us safely through the traffic! Putu accompanied us at all times, sharing his knowledge of the history and traditions associated with both temples. The car was clean, with good air conditioning & free bottled water. Would definitely recommend to others.

Nyoman took us to Tanah Lot and Taman Ayun temples. Taman Ayun was quiet and beautiful; definitely a little off the beaten path but worth a visit if you have time. Tanah Lot was beautiful, especially if you can walk around the coastline area. It was a great afternoon excursion, and Nyoman took really great photos of us! He was really nice and communicated about the experience— it was great to have someone to take us around and get beautiful sunset pics!
