Wandeling door het gebied dat het zwaarst werd getroffen tijdens het Sovjet tapijtbombardement op Tallinn in maart 1944. Deze gedeeltelijk herbouwde straat draagt nog steeds de littekens van de meest verwoestende nacht in de geschiedenis van de stad, toen tot de helft van de stad dakloos werd en een tiende van de middeleeuwse oude binnenstad werd verwoest.
Sta op het centrale stadsplein van Tallinn en pak de gelaagde geschiedenis uit, die verrassend genoeg niet alleen honderden maar duizenden jaren teruggaat. Hoor hoe een natie van één miljoen tegen Sovjet-Rusland vocht en won, staande voor Estlands nationale monument voor onafhankelijkheid.
Wandel langs de middeleeuwse muren, torens en vestingwerken van Tallinn en hoor hoe de stad uitgroeide tot een van de meest formidabele middeleeuwse bolwerken van de regio – nooit met geweld veroverd.
Stap in een van de meest sfeervolle hoekjes van de oude stad en hoor het verhaal achter de oudste vlag ter wereld, die vandaag nog steeds wappert.
Zie Tallinn’s meest controversiële kerk : even politiek geladen als imposant. Het is een symbool van de Russische keizerlijke controle en heeft een nieuwe urgentie gekregen sinds de volledige invasie van Oekraïne door Rusland, waardoor oude gesprekken over imperium, russificatie en identiteit weer zijn aangewakkerd.
Neem het fort in je op dat sinds de 12e eeuw de zetel van de macht in deze landen is, met het parlement van Estland nog steeds binnen zijn muren vandaag.
Betreed de iconische St. Mary's Cathedral om muren te zien bedekt met 17e-eeuwse wapenschilden van Baltisch- Duitse adellijke families. Het is een van de beste plaatsen om echt te zien en te begrijpen hoe religie, klasse, macht en herinnering door de eeuwen heen in de stad werden gekerfd.
Kijk over middeleeuwse torens, kerkspitsen, lagen uit het Sovjettijdperk en moderne hoogbouw vanaf het beste panoramische uitzichtpunt van Tallinn, waar de hele gelaagde geschiedenis van de stad in één beweging zichtbaar wordt.
Loop de oude route tussen Toompea heuvel en de Benedenstad, ooit twee rivaliserende steden met aparte wetten, aparte belangen, en eeuwen van spanningen tussen hen.
Bekijk de Grote Gildezaal en de andere nabijgelegen gildehuizen die nog steeds de taal van middeleeuwse rijkdom en handel spreken. We bespreken de Hanze, de handelsmacht en hoe Tallinn rijk werd lang voordat het schattig werd.
Bekijk de kerk die het grootste deel van haar middeleeuwse vorm heeft behouden, en bespreek religie, taal, klasse en identiteit in het tijdperk na de kruistochten, toen het land officieel tot het christendom was bekeerd, maar in de praktijk gaf niemand veel om prediking aan de 'arme heidenen'.
Neem een kijkje in de oudste continu werkende apotheek van Europa — zes eeuwen en tellend in hetzelfde gebouw.
Neem een kijkje in een van de meest sfeervolle middeleeuwse passages van de oude binnenstad en bekijk de overblijfselen van de Sint-Catharinakathedraal, ooit een van de grootste in Noord-Europa.
Sluit uw tour af bij Europa's oudste continu werkende apotheek, na zes eeuwen nog steeds in hetzelfde gebouw, en stap binnen voor een klein maar briljant venster in de bijgelovige wereld van de middeleeuwse geneeskunde.

Voor een Old Town start, kan uw Gids u ontmoeten in uw hotel of een andere locatie in de oude stad. Als u een ontmoetingspunt in de haven hebt geregeld, zal uw Gids u ontmoeten bij de hoofdpoorten van het cruiseterminalgebied, of net binnen de hoofdingang / uitgang van veerbootterminal A of Terminal D. Zoek naar uw Gids met een bord met uw naam. Daarnaast delen we een dag van tevoren het contactnummer van de Gids met u.

Went on a 5-hour tour with my English-speaking nephew and his four Bristish friends. Although I´m a native Estonian, I felt that a tour by a professional guide like K.J. (as I like to call him) would be much more interesting and informative. And he delivered big-time! KJ kept the attention of the lot for the whole 5 hrs, explaining not only the history, but the contemporary culture as well, jigsawed with good humor and a little bit of Estonian healthy sarcasm here and there. A true local experience! I would recommend his tour to all nationalities, including Estonians! I got so much out of it myself as well, despite being born and bred in Tallinn. So cheers. (On the photos - K.J. introducing us the set of Christopher Nolan's "Tenet". This enormous, ruined Soviet-era concert hall can be called Estonia's Machu Picchu, but is often overlooked by classic old-town tours).
Thank you for an awesome experience and an insightful private tour! I’ve walked these streets hundreds of times. Turns out I knew only a tiny fraction of the stories hiding behind the buildings, streets, and landmarks. A great Old Town tour for a visitor, but also super interesting for a local.

This afternoon we did the city tour with Chris. Most tours have fixed starting times but for this tour we could choose the starting time which was convenient as we already had a morning activity. Chris is very knowledgeable, a super friendly guy and gave us many tips too. We recommend this tour without any reservations. Great choice when in Tallinn!

We had a fantastic walking tour of Tallinn with Chris. He was knowledgeable, engaging, and shared fascinating insights into the city's history and culture. In our hours with Chris in the old town and outside Tallin we saw and learned so much we’re still thinking and talking about it days later. The tour of the old town is a perfect introduction. It means if you wander round at your leisure later you have a much greater sense of what you’re looking at. The rest of the tour gives broader historical and cultural context. The visit to the memorials is especially moving and thought-proving from a British perspective.

We were on a cruise and opted for a 3 hour walking tour. We were glad we did. We received great email communications and the tour and tour guide Chris were off the charts good. Chris was 5-star all the way and right from the beginning when he agreed to change the meeting spot to the port. He is very interesting, high energy and passionate about Tallinn. Highly recommended!

Our guide Kristjan-Jaak went above and beyond to accommodate an unusual request for our bachelor party. We had requested a tour of the Old Town as usual for a group of twelve of us, but prior to the tour we also arranged to pepper in some bespoke fake trivia that would lead the groom to be suspicious until the very end when the ruse would become absolutely unbelievable. With only a couple weeks notice, Kristjan-Jaak interpolated these bespoke untruths into our tour seamlessly, even improvising and fleshing out the landscape our fake Estonia with his own details. He committed strange in-jokes to memory, successfully ratcheting up the farce until the final moments where it all got the big laugh from the groom we were hoping for. Beyond that, the tour itself was illustrative, historical and genuinely fascinating. We all couldn’t have been happier with it and several members of the party remarked at how enjoyable it all was for the whole rest of the trip! I can’t recommend Kris or his company enough.
