Surflessen in Santa Teresa Costa Rica

A really great experience for my son and I. Richard made feel very at ease. He had a really positive approach to teaching us. I would highly recommend Pelican and Richard. The fresh coconut water after the lesson was greatly appreciated!

We had the best time learning to surf! Everything was explained so clearly and Richard always made us feel relaxed and confident in the water. He is such a friendly, fun and encouraging instructor, which made the whole experience even better. Thanks to you Richard, we‘ve completely fallen in love with surfing!!

We spent an amazing session with Richard & Pelican Experiences, so good in fact we booked to go again the next day. Playa Hermosa was the perfect place to learn, and as a family of 4 with kids 8 & 5, Richard was an extraordinary teacher. His kind and patient nature made things really easy, and we had fun whilst getting to grips with the basics of surfing. All 4 of us managed to stand up and surf a few waves 🌊🤙 Would highly recommend without hesitation.

My two daughters and I took a lesson with Richard. He was super friendly and brought another instructor since there were three of us. I had taken lessons before on my last trip but enjoyed getting some new tips. My daughters had a great time and both rode a few waves during their lesson. We came back a couple of days later and rented a couple of boards while Richard was out giving a lesson to another group. Great guy with a very friendly personality. I would recommend him to anyone!

Richard is an incredible instructor and great human!! My wife and I booked a couples lesson with him the first time we visited Costa Rica, and he was such a great part of our trip that we booked again with him when we returned to Costa Rica in 2026! He made things fun and easy to learn as beginners. By the second lesson, we were able to catch and ride waves completely unassisted. Playa Hermosa was a great beach as well a bit off the beaten path of Santa Teresa. We highly recommend!!

Had a great experience with Richard, the water is super warm and the waves are good for learning.

Richard was an amazing instructor. He was able to teach us the basics and allowed us get a feel for surfing. We were able to catch some waves and he even showed us how to paddle on our own. Definitely would book again!

So much fun! Santa Teresa is a major surf town, so taking lessons was a must do! Richard was amazing and helped my bf and I stand up and find success immediately

Great experience and the second trip where I’ve done lessons with Richard. He’s able to personalize the experience for you and unlike some instructors I’ve had elsewhere, he’s extremely patient, positive and constructive. 10/10 highly recommend whether you’re a beginner or intermediate

Great experience - we booked several days with Richard & were more than happy with him and his way of teaching us to surf. We booked a total of 3 days (I would recommend to anyone) & have made great progress. Richard is very focused on the technique and assists with each wave (if necessary). Funny, reliable and very ambitious can still be added - all in all highly recommended & a great experience!
