Ontdek de keuken en geschiedenis van Cuenca tijdens een wandeltocht met kleine groepen. Naast het stillen van je eetlust en culturele nieuwsgierigheid, is deze tour een geweldige manier om je te oriënteren op de lay-out van de stad. Culinaire hoogtepunten zijn onder meer Sanduche de pernil, tamales, empanadas en traditionele dranken zoals morocho en kokossap. We lopen rond het centrale plein en observeren de belangrijkste historische gebouwen van de stad, zoals: nieuwe en oude kathedraal, La Gobernacion, burgemeesterschap, enz.
In deze plaats heb je de mogelijkheid om te genieten van een heerlijke Cuenca-snack genaamd Sanduche de pernil, vergezeld van zijn chilisaus met boomtomaat en een verfrissend drankje met kokossap.
Daarna wandelen we door de geplaveide straten van Cuenca, bezoeken we enkele van de traditionele buurten zoals de Barrio de Todos Santos of ook wel de buurt van de bakkers genoemd, dan zullen we contact maken met de Barranco del Rio Tomebamba voordat we de volgende eetkraam bereiken.
Voor de Broken Bridge, een iconische plek in de stad, vinden we een kleine eetkraam met vele jaren dienst waar je de beste empanda's kunt proeven en de beroemde "morocho" bereid met maïs kunt drinken.
Na een wandeling langs de oever van de rivier, een deel van het ravijn van de stad en de archeologische overblijfselen van Pumapungo, komen we aan bij een van de beroemdste straten van de stad Cuenca waar veel huizen in koloniale stijl bewaard zijn gebleven, die functioneren zoals kleine restaurants met typische gerechten, vooral tortilla's, tamles, empanadas, enz. Onthoud dat met deze snacks je diner meer dan compleet is
In het laatste deel van onze tour keren we terug naar het startpunt van de tour om de nacht af te sluiten met een heerlijke cocktail in een van de beste restaurants in de stad Cuenca.

FINALLY. Cuenca has an authentic French restaurant. Others, at best, are copies of French cooking that does not evoke and memories of traditional France. They merely use French names. They are not necessarily bad, but certainly not French. I am French from Quebec and, like all of us, a foodie. I have spend many years in France The place is newly opened, owned and operated by a handsome Frenchman from Orléans (where Joan of Arc came from). It is decorated in a style that is indistinguishable from 1000s of France restaurants, and the view from the windows on El Centro (the old city) compliments that. I began with a foie gras...nicely prepared and served with garnishes. (a first for Cuenca or Ecuador for that matter). Very pleased. I continued with an exceptional (and large) plate of grilled octopus ersillade, a favorite of mine. Best I have had here in 15 years. I finished with a Tarte Tatin (the legendary French dessert) and expresso allongé. My companion had a Magret of Duck, sliced and pretty and ended with profiterolles I am going back tomorrow with my wife. I shall take photos.

Edison was very accommodating by changing the day because it was raining heavily at our appointed time. However, he arrived on time, agreed on a different time, kindly dropped us off at a different destination, & met us the following day. He’s very knowledgeable about the history of and customs of Cuenca and Ecuador, of the city, and the best places to procure Cuenca foods. He was full of information about all the questions we had. It was a joy to spend time with him.

My husband, daughter and I did an evening tour with Cris and had such a great time. We got to learn a lot about Cuenca’s history and culture alongside the delicious food. We liked that we got to choose the amount of food we’d get, so we didn’t feel overloaded at the end. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about Cuenca.
