Not for a first-time snorkeler, but this was by far the best snorkeling adventure I have ever had. Nearly 2.5 hours in the water and with the scooter, I didn’t even get tired. We saw so many fish and manta rays, it was incredible. Aaron was a wonderful guide. It was like swimming with my best friend and he was very knowledgeable also.
I was the only one on the power scooter snorkeling. The other person and guides went spear fishing. I saw zero fish. All the fish were at the bottom which was 15-28 feet down. The visibility was only 2 meters at the surface. The current was very strong and quite windy. The power scooter was very poor and couldn't keep me from the rocks. After 30 minutes of seeing nothing I returned to the boat while the guides spear fished for 2 hours. Spear fishing and snorkeling do not go well together. They gutted thei fish in the water which could attract sharks. Where we went was good for spear fishing but definitely not for snorkeling. What a total waste of time and money!
Hi Barry, Thanks for your feedback. I'm sorry you are feeling disappointed by the experience. We sometimes mixed spearfishers and snorkelers (rarely) on the same boat especially when we have only one of each on the same day (on a boat made for 12 guests). It's generally not a problem as we take them to the same dive sites anyway around Catalina islands which is one of the best scubadiving/snorkeling/spearfishing spot in Costa Rica. And you had your own guide to take you to the shallow parts of the dive sites and the spearfisher had his own guide to take him to the deeper spots. Your guide went spearfishing at the end because you didn't want to get in the water anymore, they asked you several times. Our scooters are last generation and designed and powerful enough for this kind of activity. The problem was probably that you expected clear and flat water like in Bahamas or Hawaii which is not the conditions we have here. The water here is full of wildlife (rays, turtles, inoffensive reef sharks, etc) but can get choppy and murky from a day to another especially during this season (Dec to Apr). It's not something we can control or predict.
I wanted to take my mom on a sea scooter adventure because we had done something similar in the Bahamas, and it was her wish to experience it again. She loved every minute of it, even though she isn’t a strong swimmer. From the start, Aaron made safety the top priority and immediately put her at ease. We’re not spring chickens, and yet Aaron somehow had us swimming, snorkeling, and even doing a bit of light free diving in a way that felt both exciting and completely manageable. He and the captain worked closely together the entire time, constantly watching us, checking in, and adjusting things so we always felt supported without feeling restricted. That balance mattered. We felt safe, but never rushed or pressured beyond what we were comfortable with. Aaron quickly picked up on the fact that my mom was a little scared. Instead of pushing her, he worked patiently with her, explained everything clearly, stayed close, and helped her build confidence at her own pace. By the end, she was relaxed, smiling, and truly enjoying the moment. This day trip was incredibly special. I have a bad knee, my mom has a bad foot, and they were thoughtful and attentive about that from start to finish. They helped us in and out of the water safely, anticipated challenges before they became issues, and made the entire experience as easy and stress free as possible. This was genuinely one of the highlights of our trip and exactly why I continue to book through Viator. I would absolutely do this experience again and highly recommend both the tour and Aaron to anyone looking for a safe, memorable, and well run adventure.
Me and my boyfriend had such a great time on the scooter snorkeling tour! Gauthier was incredibly patient with us, and accomodated us right away with last minute booking. Guiding us through everything with calm and confidence. The waves were stronger than expected, but thanks to Gauthier and his amazing team, we felt safe the entire time — seriously grateful for how well they looked after us out there. It was such a fun and unique experience, definitely something we’ll remember. Highly recommend this tour if you’re looking for a bit of adventure with your partner or friends.
Thanks Cherrie!
I recently went on a half-day free dive snorkel trip that was absolutely fantastic. Our guide, Aaron, was not only knowledgeable but also deeply respectful towards the marine life we encountered. We were lucky enough to see manta rays, a devil's ray, a baby shark, and a host of other marine creatures. After our dive, enjoying some fresh watermelon on the boat was the perfect way to end the outing. I had a great time and would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for an unforgettable snorkelling adventure.
Thanks Julia!
Guide was excellent. Materials decent, although the boat is old. However, the conditions were poor, and a next trip for later in the day was already planned, so the tour knowingly gives a mediocre experience. December is not the time of year to take the snorkeling trip.
Hi Reinout, Thank you for your feed back. Yes, underwater visibility can drop some days especially between December and April. It's due to wind and currents and it's completely unpredictable. It's unfortunately not something we can control. And yes, we have 2 trips a day, we generally teach freediving in the morning and offer spearfishing and snorkeling in the afternoon. On that day, we especially organize a snorkeling trip in the morning on your demand...
Booking was easy and Gauthier was super helpful and very cool to hang with! Sea scooters were neat and easy to use. We’ll definitely try other activities on our next trip. Pura Vida!😊
Thank you!
Aaron was amazziin...very informative and professional but also very chilled. Safe and fun experience and the sea life was incredible. Made a huge effort to show me as much sea life as possible. Definitely not a job for him!!!
Thanks Tim!
Despite some rain and cloudy skies, Gauthier provided us with a super fun and memorable experience! The sea scooters were a blast - highly recommend over a typical snorkeling trip. They were easy to handle and made snorkeling in somewhat choppy waves more manageable. We would definitely do this one again. Thanks for a great time and the ride home G!
Thank you!
We had an awesome time!! Kids were thrilled with the sea scooters and loved every minute! Our guide was extremely friendly and very accommodating! Highly recommend!!
Thanks Greg!
