Het District Six Museum is geschikt voor zowel locals als buitenlanders en is een educatieve ervaring voor zowel volwassenen als kinderen. Bezoekers leren over deze eens multi-raciale, kleurrijke hub voor muzikanten, artiesten en ‘goede’ en ‘slechte’ gangsters, die te maken hadden met een 20-jarige periode van sloop en gedwongen verwijdering tijdens het apartheidstijdperk. Houd je bezig met foto's, opnames en getuigenissen, die verder inzicht bieden in de turbulentie van apartheid. Tussen de tentoonstellingen door deel je in de verhalen van District Six met betrokken en vriendelijke medewerkers, van wie de meerderheid zelf ontheemde inwoners waren en intieme en persoonlijke verhalen te delen hebben. Wees gewaarschuwd: het is onmogelijk om niet emotioneel aangeraakt te worden bij het bezoeken van deze site. Desondanks is het een belangrijke plaats om te bezoeken om een beter begrip van de rijke geschiedenis van Zuid-Afrika te helpen creëren. Maak er een punt van om deel te nemen aan een rondleiding door een echte ex-inwoner van de oorspronkelijke District Six. Je krijgt een echt gevoel van hoe het was voor de mensen in die dagen.

On arrival at the museum, I was refused admission. Apparently the museum's partnership with Viator has been terminated.

Fake tickets sold on viator
Do not buy this from viator. They will not honor tickets bought through here. Total waste of money. You'll have to repurchase when you get there. Such a great story that could be told. But it wasn't interactive.

This venue did not accept Viator
This venue did not accept Viator so I had to pay again. Not a high amount but disappointing all the same

District Six worth a visit
An interesting and well presented museum highlighting the plight of those uplifted from District Six…

Didn't learn as much as we hoped to
We were very interested to visit the Museum. You probably don't need to buy the 'Skip the Line' ticket as it wasn't busy when we got there. We were a bit disappointed in the museum; there are a lot of very moving accounts on the walls from some of the many people who were forcibly evicted from District 6. However, we couldn't read a lot of the accounts as it was quite dark in the museum. The contents of the museum are very visually striking ,but some of the information is a bit confusing. There was a section that we hoped would explain what the current situation is, but it didn't seem to do so. There are guides who will take you round the museum but we had missed the chance to join the last guided tour. So, I suggest you do a guided tour if you go to the museum to ensure you get the best out of it. We were able to find out more about the current situation re compensation etc, when we went on a walking tour of District 6 on another day.

Interesting and informative
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this interesting little museum. We found it very informative, engaging and easy to navigate. Displays were of a high standard and staff were friendly.

Interesting and saddening
We had one full day in Capetown and one of our stops was the District Six museum. Our guide Ruth was one of the coloured forced out of their homes so that the area could be bulldozed. Her tour was a ‘must do’ in order to get the full, and emotional story of the events then.
