Het beroemdste gebouw in Sintra is het Pena-paleis. Gebouwd in de jaren 1840, op de top van de heuvel, die gemakkelijk te zien is vanuit Lissabon en het is een van Europa's meest fantastische paleizen. Het paleis staat op de werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO en is een van de zeven wonderen van Portugal. Dit paleis is een maximale referentie van Portugese romantische architectuur.
Dit is een van de belangrijkste toeristische attracties van Sintra. Dit magische dorp met zijn extravagante neo-Manuelijnse tuinen, gedroomd door een Italiaanse opera-ontwerper, Luigi Manini, onder bevel van de Braziliaanse magnaat van edelstenen en transport, António Carvalho Monteiro, bekend door Monteiro dos Millões.
Monserrate Palace is een prachtig 19e-eeuws statig huis. Dit extravagant ingerichte paleis combineert Portugese, Arabische en Indiase architecturale stijlen en is een van de mooiste gebouwen in Sintra. Het paleis werd gebouwd in opdracht van Francis Cook, een Engelse textielbaron, die het landgoed gebruikte als zomerverblijf. Het terrein van het Monserrate Palace verstoppen gespecialiseerde en exotische tuinen met niet-inheemse planten. Dit paleis is het kleinste van de drie paleizen van Sintra, maar het is veruit de meest decoratieve en mooiste.
Op het meest westelijke punt van Europa, waar het land eindigt en de zee begint. De Sintra-berg ontmoet hier abrupt de Atlantische Oceaan in een klif van meer dan 100 m hoog. De cape heeft een windvlaag en kan zelfs midden in de zomer koud genoeg zijn voor een jas of trui. Als het weer het toelaat, zijn de uitzichten op de klif adembenemend.
Gelegen op een klif aan de kust van Lissabon, in de buurt van Sintra, is Azenhas do Mar een van de meest gewaardeerde en opwindende stranden van Europa. Vanwege de geweldige uitzichten die het biedt, blijft het een populaire toeristische bestemming zowel in de winter als in de zomer. Het geeft je een kans om de grote Atlantische Oceaan in zijn volle glorie te bewonderen. Met witte huizen op de noordhelling en buitengewone zwembaden die uit de rots zijn gegraven.

Antonio was a great guide for the day. We visited all main Sintra sites in the morning and headed to Cape Cabo and a fantastic beach in the afternoon. It was so easy being driven around on the private tour as we could spend time where we wanted. Would recommend beating the crowds via this way of touring. Make sure you check when and where to book palace and other areas prior to the tour.

This is a good option for those who have a sense of what they would like to see and don’t need/want a guide to tell them about the sites you see. Mostly, this was an extremely convenient and personalized ride service - where you didn’t have to worry about how to get to the next site and you had great help navigating where to purchase tickets for the site.

We really enjoyed the ‘full-day’ tour of the entire Sintra area with Classic Sintra Tours. Although the historic area is crowded were given great direction from Antonio our guide and driver for the day and he told us where to go and what to visit so as to maximise our experience. The 5 lakes of the Pena Palace is a great place to start and walk up to the Palace in the cool air and shade. (Especially if it’s hot) Start early! The admission fee for the Palace was 12 EUR each and as there are many renovations inside and to keep your time, we felt an inside tour unnecessary. The views from the top are great. We also had a timed ticket for the Quinta da Regaleira and we walked there from the old town. The visit was well worst it, stunning. Antonio was very relaxed and informative and made our day very pleasant. Great local understanding and personalised service.

Antonio was a superb personal tour guide! Born in Sintra, he knew the whole area in detail and was keen to share it with us. He gave helpful explanations about which walking routes to take at the castle, palaces and seaside locations and kept us on schedule without ever making us feel rushed. The lunchtime recommended restaurant suited our food preferences perfectly. We packed an awful lot into our day and were so grateful for Antonio's flexibility, which made it truly a day to remember always! Highly recommended.

During our full day tour, we had the opportunity to choose exactly which sights we wanted to explore. Our tour guide, Antonio, was familiar with the area which made the experience feel seamless and personalized, ensuring we could see as many sights as time allowed. The vehicle was simple but comfortable and well-suited for the tour. During our visit, his familiarity with the area proved especially helpful, as the region was still recovering from several storms that had closed some routes to certain sights. One memorable moment was when we asked for a beachside spot for fresh fish—he led us to the perfect gem, Nortada Restaurant in Colares. With stunning views and delicious food, it was the ideal addition to an already unforgettable day. My friends and I truly had an incredible tour. Highlights? The Initiation Well at Quinta da Regaleira and the grounds, Monserrate Palace and beautiful grounds (really liked their little outdoor/indoor cafe), National Palace, and exploring the Cabo da Roca area with our picturesque lunch spot Something we would do differently? nothing comes to mind

We had the most wonderful day with Antonio. Six of us took the train from Lisbon and met Antonio outside the station.
