S-21 Gevangenis en Killing Fields

Eerst komen we je ophalen met ons comfortabele en AC-voertuig en rijden we naar Choeung Ek Killing field. Een zeer ontroerende en confronterende ervaring de Killing Fields waren de laatste rustplaats voor meer dan 17.000 mannen, vrouwen, kinderen en baby's tussen 1975 en 1978. We gaan dan verder naar Tuol Sleng Museum. In 1975 werd Tuol Svay Prey High School overgenomen door de veiligheidstroepen van Pol Pot en veranderd in een gevangenis die bekend staat als Security Prison (S-21). Het werd snel het grootste centrum van detentie en marteling in het land.

We vertrekken vanuit uw hotel met privévervoer en rijden naar de Killing Fields van Choeung Ek, ongeveer 16 km ten zuiden van Phnom Penh. Een zeer ontroerende en confronterende ervaring. De Killing Fields waren de laatste rustplaats voor meer dan 17.000 mannen, vrouwen, kinderen en baby's tussen 1975 en 1978. Naar schatting heeft het Rode Khmer-regime het leven gekost tussen 2 en 4 miljoen Cambodjanen tijdens hun destructieve en verwoestende tijd in controle tussen 1975 en 1979. Je gids zal je voorzien van een gedetailleerde rondleiding door de velden.

Gevangenen werden herhaaldelijk gemarteld en gedwongen familieleden te noemen en naaste medewerkers, die op hun beurt werden gearresteerd, naar S21 werden gebracht, gemarteld en uiteindelijk gedood. Besteed tijd aan het ontdekken van de aangrijpende waarheden van de gevangenis. Opmerking: Nationaal Museum, Silver Pagoda en Royal Palace zijn elke dag geopend. De Zilveren Pagode en het Koninklijk Paleis kunnen echter zonder voorafgaande kennisgeving worden gesloten terwijl H.M. de koning is in de residentie.

A terrible insight into the madness of Pol Pot and his supporters and what they did to their own people. A must see. Not so much for young kids. This was part of our Uniworld Cruise in Vietnem and Cambodia
A very sad history that needs to be told how over 3 million people were tortured and killed. A devastating event that I didn’t really know much about, I’m so glad I visited and could pay my respects to the innocent people Well worth a visit
Our guide Kim was superb and approached the sensitive topics related to both of the sites we visited with tact and emphaty. I feel this is a must-do tour for anyone wanting to understand the history of the wonderful country of Cambodia.
Highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants learn about Cambodias past. It’s confronting but worthwhile to understand and learn from. Taught me and my family respect and kindness to all humans no matter what race, religion or colour we are.
It was a very sad, harrowing experience coming here and learning about the history of what happened. Perhaps ignorantly, I knew nothing of the tragic history of Cambodia so it felt important I come here to learn more.
Given the subject matter of this tour we felt that our tour guide dealt with it extremely respectfully. His knowledge was superb as was his English. The whole tour was really moving and I would urge anyone visiting Cambodia to take this tour and not forgot what the Cambodia people went through.
Our tour guide Smiley was wonderful and his English was superb. He was very knowledgeable and was able to help us understand the truly tragic events surrounding the Killing Fields and S21. While it is a very confronting experience, the tour provides a look into a history that is hard to fully appreciate when reading about it. Meeting the two remaining survivors of S21 was an honour we won’t forget.
