Georges Island heeft een rijke geschiedenis. Het maakte deel uit van het "Halifax Defense Complex" van het midden van de 18e eeuw tot de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Interpretatieve panelen en gidsen delen een fascinerende geschiedenis vanaf de oudheid toen de Mi'kmaq aankwamen in Kjipuktuk, de 'Grote Haven', tot de komst van de Britten in 1749, tot de gevangenschap van Acadians tijdens de deportatie van 1755-63, en tot de bescherming van de stad tijdens de wereldoorlogen. Met dank aan Parks Canada kunt u deelnemen aan een rondleiding door de ondergrondse tunnels op het eiland. Reizigers kunnen een deel van de promenade van Halifax zien, een van 's werelds langste stedelijke promenades over de lengte van de waterkant - 4 kilometer (2,5 mijl).

Reizigers kunnen 1 uur of 5 uur op het eiland doorbrengen. Ze kunnen picknicken en de tour doen of gewoon de tour doen en terugkomen op de volgende veerboot die weer aan land komt.

The tour given by the young lady, was very informative and had a great pace. Such good way to be educated.

Great little excursion! Lots of history, nice walk, and beautiful views of the city. We had a great time! Even if you just take the ferry across and then back, it's worth it
It was a great trip to the Island. The things they should elaborate on is the check in isn’t at 1715 Lower Water Street. It is right next to the cows ice cream shop on the water front. That address is also on the ticket. Eliminate the 1715 address. The other thing is I wish the tour ad explained that you can spend as much or as little time on the island. The boat comes and goes throughout the day dropping off and picking up.
Worked out well two seniors, daughter and two grandchildren ages four and nine. They loved the treasure hunt. We managed through the tunnels just fine. Recommend good footwear and make sure you bring water and snacks.
Perfect adventure with my 5 yr old grandson. Everything about it was terrific. Just the right length of time and scale for a wonderful morning adventure right in the city. Boat ride was great, George’s Island is gorgeous, and the tour of Fort Charlotte was engaging and informative. We loved it all.
This was a great experience for our family! The ferry is quick and easy and staff were great. The island itself was beautiful and the informational plaques throughout were very helpful. The guided tour of the tunnels was excellent and taught us a lot!
Expect what you expected as far a knowledge, professionalism and wonderful atmosphere. Nnilah was the best we could ask for as far as all the above. the kindness that she showed and family feeling did nto go un noticed. we were comfortable fro the get go.
Well organised, pleasant ferry ride around island before docking, interesting place and guides explained well
Took ferry and walked the island self guided for most of it but a guide took Us im the tunnels. Pretty neat to see!
