Ga op een onvergetelijke reis door de charmante steden Barcelos, Braga en Guimarães, en proef het noorden van Portugal. Barcelos – Een stad vol kleur en creativiteit. Beroemd om zijn traditionele keramiek en de legendarische Haan van Barcelos. Braga – bekend als het “Portugese Rome” voor zijn ongelooflijke concentratie van religieuze bezienswaardigheden en architectonische wonderen. Met zijn mix van oude tradities en moderne charme is Braga een perfecte bestemming voor diegenen die gefascineerd zijn door geschiedenis, cultuur en religie. Guimarães – We sluiten uw reis af in Guimarães, de historische stad die bekend staat als de “geboorteplaats van Portugal”. Met zijn goed bewaarde middeleeuwse architectuur en charmante straatjes biedt Guimarães een kijkje in het verleden van het land en toont het zijn rustige moderne leven.

Op donderdag heb je de mogelijkheid om de grootste markt van Portugal te bezoeken. Deze markt vindt plaats in het centrum van Barcelos.
We bezoeken deze barokke kerk met zijn mooie blauwe tegels en gouden reliëfs. Deze kerk staat bekend om zijn legende over een donker houten kruis.
Een van de oude stadsverdedigingstorens. Boven op de toren heb je een prachtig uitzicht op de barokke tuinen en het marktplein. Binnen in de toren is er een interessante kunsttentoonstelling van lokale kunstenaars.
We bezoeken de hoofdkerk, de oudste kerk in de stad.
Hier ontdekt u de legende van de haan en ziet u het originele kruis uit de legende. Er zijn ook enkele andere interessante voorwerpen gevonden in de hele stad.
Geniet van het prachtige uitzicht op de middeleeuwse brug uit het 15e-eeuwse kasteel van de hertog van Bragança.
We beginnen onze stadswandeling in Braga, die door de oude stadspoort binnenkomt.
Dwaal rond in de tuinen van Santa Barbara en geniet van de bloemen van het seizoen.
Je passeert de overblijfselen van het 11e-eeuwse kasteelgedeelte van de oude stadsmuur.
Op het centrale plein van Braga - waar de 'oude bewoners' samenkomen om te socialiseren - zie je een mix van interessante archituren uit verschillende periodes.
Gebouwd in de 17e eeuw de voorkant van de kerk is het verbergen van twee hanen. Volgens de legende moeten bijna trouwen vinden dit 2 hanen voor een lange en gelukkige huwelijk.
We bezoeken de hoofdkerk van de stad. Delen van deze kerk zijn zelfs ouder dan Portugal zelf. In een van de kapellen van deze kathedraal vind je de tumuls van de ouders van de eerste koning van Portugal.
Het heiligdom van Bom Jesus do Monte staat bekend om zijn uitgebreide trap en zijn prachtige tuinen. Hier zult u genieten van het prachtige landschap met een spectaculair uitzicht over de stad Braga.
Geniet van de stilte in het meest rustige heiligdom van Braga. Het heiligdom is gebouwd in neoklassieke stijl en is het grootste Mariale devotionele heiligdom in Portugal, de tweede alleen voor het heiligdom van Fátima.
Het typische Largo da Oliveira is vernoemd naar een wonder met een 500 jaar oude olijfboom die op het plein stond. Het plein is omgeven door enkele 17e-eeuwse traditionele 'verandahuizen' en de 'Nossa Senhora da Oliveira'-kerk. In het midden van het plein bevindt zich een veranda genaamd "Padrão do Salado". De veranda verwijst naar de succesvolle slag bij Salado in de 14e eeuw. Het charmante plein van San Tiago wordt gekenmerkt door de aanwezigheid van het oude stadhuisgebouw en enkele woongebouwen uit de 17e en 18e eeuw. Lunchtijd (niet inbegrepen).
Het paleis van de hertogen van Bragança werd in de 15e eeuw gebouwd door D. Afonso. Hij was de 'bastard'-zoon van koning João I. We zullen ook het museum op de eerste verdieping van het paleis bezoeken met een verzameling nationaal en internationaal antiek.
Volgens de legende is de eerste koning van Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques, hier gedoopt. Het veronderstelde doopvont dat in de ceremonie werd gebruikt, wordt hier bewaard.
We zullen het kasteel zien waar de eerste koning van Portugal werd geboren en de kapel waar hij werd gedoopt.

Vcs canceled the tour, without even warning, bad service, I do not recommend to anyone, I had to arrange the tour with another operator
Lamentamos o seu comentário, porque você nunca teve da nossa parte nenhuma confirmação de aceitação de reserva e por isso o seu comentário não tem qualquer fundamento. Da próxima vez que fizer qualquer reserva com qualquer Operador aconselhamos a informar-se corretamente sobre o normal procedimento das mesmas e não fazer comentários infundados sobre uma suposta reserva que nunca aconteceu.
We went on a tour of Barcelos, Braga, and Guimaraes with José and his companion Evangeline (?) and it was a great day. They picked us up right outside our place in central Porto in the morning, and then we headed to the street market in Barcelos (which runs on Thursdays... we didn't buy anything, but it was fun to experience)... Other than the market, Barcelos is a fairly sleepy town, feels pretty "local" and off the beaten path, though it is famous for the legend of the "Rooster of Barcelos" which has become a symbol across all of Portugal. From there, we headed to Braga, which has something like 26 churches -- and we got to take a look at probably a dozen of them over the course of the day, including the impressive Cathedral which was a major seat of Catholic power in the area... in addition to the nearby Bom Jesus, which is beautifully located up a mountain at the end of a long-stretching staircase (although unfortunately they are doing renovations inside the church right now... but the exterior views are the star of the show, anyway.) Finally, we made our way to Guimaraes, the "birthplace" of Portugal since this is where the first king, Alfonso Henriques was born, and where he battled his mother to declare independence from Spain (long story. The guides will tell it to you!) There is a castle here, but we walked past it and spent time touring the more grandiose Dukes manor nearby. The town itself is also pleasant to walk through -- quaint and medieval in its layout, but still a fairly large city. After all of this, we were quite satisfied but, even though the tour was technically done, José was nice enough to show us a few more sights... he had time, so he extended the tour to do a little detour down the coastal region, seeing the beach towns and fisherman villages, such as Vila Nova do Conde, with a historical Portuguese sailing ship and a couple more interesting churches. Oh, I forgot to mention... this is billed as a "small group tour" which would have been fine, but it ended up being a private tour for just the two of us! Even better!
