Waarom naar Assisi komen? Omdat Assisi pure spiritualiteit is. Sint Franciscus en Sint Clara maakten het 800 jaar geleden beroemd en in de moderne tijd koos de zalige Carlo Acutis het als het ‘eeuwige thuis’ voor hun stoffelijke resten. Omdat Assisi een doos vol verrassingen is voor wie van kunst houdt. De schoonheid van de monumenten wordt aangevuld door de rust die in de straten ademt. Assisi is een stad ondergedompeld in het groen van de olijfbomen en de harmonie van het landschap. Vanwege de spiritualiteit, kunst, schoonheid en natuur zul je niet kunnen stoppen om naar Assisi te komen.

Onze gids vindt je naast het Basiliekinformatiekantoor op het Benedenbasiliekplein. Houd er rekening mee dat op zon- en feestdagen uitleg over de basiliek van buitenaf en gratis toegang mogelijk is. Het bezoek begint met een bezoek aan het graf van San Francisco. Zijn stoffelijk overschot ligt hier al 800 jaar. In de Benedenbasiliek spreken de geschilderde versieringen over de Franciscaanse deugden, over het voorbeeld van Franciscus in zijn leven als de mens Christus. In de Bovenbasiliek zullen we ons concentreren op het leven van de Sint en zijn relatie met de tijd waarin hij leefde en met de persoonlijkheden die hij ontmoette zoals pausen en edelen, ook met de eenvoudige mensen die hem omringden. Meer dan 5000 vierkante meter aan fresco's geschilderd door Giotto, Cimabue, Simone Martini en Pietro Lorenzetti.
Tegenwoordig bekend als het Heiligdom van de Onteigening, waar Francisco afstand doet van zijn rijke familie-erfenis. Eerste kathedraal van Assisi gebouwd op de overblijfselen van een huis uit de Romeinse tijd. Plaats waar duizenden pelgrims arriveren die de overblijfselen willen vereren van de jonge Carlo Acutis, gids van jonge christenen die hun religieuze waarden willen combineren met het gebruik van nieuwe technologieën.
Het Municipal Plaza presenteert gebouwen van zelfs meer dan 2000 jaar geleden. De Romeinse tempel die tegenwoordig bekend staat als Santa Maria sopra Minerva ligt naast het Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo. Aan de voet van de klokkentoren toont een grafsteen de lengtemetingen die in de middeleeuwen in de stad geldig waren. Tegenover ligt het stadhuis van de stad, dat nog steeds de zetel is van het lokale bestuur. Het is de aangewezen plek om een glas wijn te drinken, een bord pasta met truffel te eten, te genieten van een ijsje of te verdwalen in de talrijke souvenir- en typische productwinkels.
Hier eindigen we onze tour. Er is een schitterend uitzicht op de vallei aan de voet van Assisi. Voor degenen die het interieur van de basiliek van Santa Clara willen bezoeken, geven we u wat informatie over wat er binnen te zien is: het kruisbeeld van San Damiano (waarvoor Franciscus zijn religieuze roeping ontdekte) en het graf waar de overblijfselen liggen van de stichters van de Clarissen.

Begoña was an amazing guide. We learned so much, especially about St. Francis and the basilica artwork. In addition, she was very accommodating for my husband, who has a visual impairment. Highly recommend the tour to anyone who wants to walk in the steps of the Saints!

Not worth the money. You will see that there are other tours with better value. At this expensive price you would expect a ride to the different sites because much of the time is wasted walking up and down hills with very little explanation along the route. Also much time was wasted repeating the same information and on one painting. If you are interested in Carlo Acutis this is very easy to get to by yourself and the guide is pointless because she sends you in by yourself.

I would like to clarify that the tour was conducted according to the itinerary provided at the time of booking. We spent approximately one hour at the Basilica of Saint Francis, visiting both the Lower and Upper Basilicas as well as the Saint’s tomb. We then continued through the historic center of Assisi, stopping at Piazza del Comune, the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, where Carlo Acutis is buried, and concluding the tour at Piazza Santa Chiara, as detailed in the tour description. As Assisi is a hill town, walking between the various sites is an essential part of the experience and unfortunately cannot be avoided. Throughout the route, explanations and brief stops are included to provide historical and cultural context before arriving at each location. At the end of the tour, I am always pleased to offer recommendations and suggestions to help guests make the most of their remaining time in the city. Regarding the price, it reflects the private nature of the experience and includes entrance fees and radio headsets for the Basilica of Saint Francis. While I regret that the tour did not fully meet your expectations, I appreciate your feedback and wish you all the best in your future travels.
It's a unique experience. Begonia, the guide, is amazing, everything was perfect. In addition to the explanation, he gave us time to pray. Asis is magical, you breathe spirituality and it is a place of great peace.

Begonia was wonderful! She gave us very detailed information on the Basilica as well as on Carlo Acuitis. She was very knowledgeable & let us have time to spend at St. Francis’ tomb & Carlo Acuitis’ tomb. Begonia also gave us information on some shops, bathroom locations & getting a taxi.
Lovely, informative, even with the wind and cold! Our guide was friendly and knowledgable. Just be prepared to walk up and down hill.

I’m declaring him my Saint after today and I have Begonia to thank for that! Amazing short walk and background on St. Carlo Acutis. I studied a lot about him but she gave even more detail. He is the Saint I pray you for my teen son and I believe he and God we’re with me today. Begonia is a natural story teller, engaging and easy to be around. 1000% worth a private tour.

It was a small group walking tour. Overall, we appreciated the local guide Begonia who could talk about the town and its actual people and experiences itself rather than just about the historic and religious sites. A little pricey for what we got but we did appreciate that they did not cancel it though there were only four of us in the group. It was better than many tours we have taken in the past at other sites. We do wish Begonia would have guided us into the Basilica of Santa Chiara, though she told us about it and its history as we walked that way before collecting the headsets.
