5 Stars isn't enough! Our family of 5 was picked up from Civitavecchia cruise port by Matteo for a full day tour of Rome and it was absolutely perfect from start to finish. We were in a super clean, cozy, air-conditioned Sprinter for 8, which was so comfortable after getting off the cruise ship. Matteo is an EXPERT driver - he navigated Rome traffic like a pro and got us as close as possible to every single stop. Our itinerary included: 1. Colosseum 2. Trevi Fountain 3. Spanish Steps 4. Pantheon 5. St. Peter's Square 6. The top of Rome at the Garibaldi statue for incredible views 7. Lunch Matteo gave us fantastic background and highlights at each venue so we knew exactly what we were seeing and where to go. He also made lunch reservations for us and honestly, it was the best meal we had in all of Rome! If you only have one day in Rome from a cruise, this is THE way to do it. No stress about trains, taxis, or getting lost. Matteo made everything seamless and fun. We can't recommend Driver in Rome and Matteo enough. Grazie mille!

De Janiculum-heuvel is een van de beste plekken in Rome om een panoramisch uitzicht te krijgen op de kerkkoepels en klokkentorens van de Eeuwige Stad. Op het plein staat een standbeeld van Giuseppe Garibaldi, een van de centrale figuren in de eenwording van Italië in de 19e eeuw.
Het eiland Tiberina is een klein eiland in de zuidelijke bocht van de rivier de Tiber. Sinds de oudheid geassocieerd met genezing, is het eiland nog steeds de thuisbasis van een van de ziekenhuizen van Rome.
Een van de vele triomfbogen in Rome, de Boog van Constantijn, bevindt zich in de buurt van het Colosseum en kan zonder toegangsprijs worden bekeken.
Circus Maximus is een oud Romeins stadion voor wagenrennen dat beroemd werd door de film 'Ben Hur'. Gelegen in de vallei tussen de Aventijn en de Palatijn, was het het eerste en grootste stadion in het oude Rome en zijn latere rijk.
De Domus Augustana was het koninklijk paleis van keizer Augustus. Gelegen op de Palatijn, kon de keizer vanuit zijn huis naar de wagenrennen in het Circus Maximus kijken.
Teatro Marcello is een ongewone architectonische site in Rome. Het was oorspronkelijk een arena in het oude Rome, gebouwd in de latere jaren van de Romeinse Republiek. Snel vooruit vele eeuwen en woningen werden bovenop het amfitheater gebouwd. Tegenwoordig zijn deze appartementen een van de duurste onroerend goed van Rome, de thuisbasis van de welgestelden van The Eternal City.
Maak vanaf de achterkant van de Capitolijnse heuvel een reis terug in de tijd terwijl je het fascinerende Forum Romanum bekijkt. Deze openbare ruimte was in de oudheid het centrum van het burgerleven en bevat de ruïnes van veel belangrijke bouwwerken, waaronder het Rostrum waar Marc Antony zijn gepassioneerde toespraak hield over het lichaam van de vermoorde Julius Caesar.
Het monument voor Victor Emmanuel, de eerste koning van een verenigd Italië, is een gigantisch monument in wit marmer, het middelpunt van Piazza Venezia. Aan de overkant van het plein bevindt zich het balkon van waaruit Mussolini zijn beroemde toespraken hield tijdens de fascistische periode.
De Trevifontein is de grootste barokke fontein in de stad en een van de beroemdste fonteinen ter wereld. De fontein is verschenen in verschillende opmerkelijke films, met name "La Dolce Vita" van Federico Fellini.
Een voormalige Romeinse tempel voor alle goden, nu een katholieke kerk, het Pantheon is een wonder van de Romeinse techniek. U zult zeker gefascineerd zijn door het gekiste plafond met zijn gigantische oculus (breed genoeg om een dubbeldekker bus door te laten zakken!) LET OP: Het Pantheon van buiten bekijken is gratis. Vanaf juli 2023 is een ticket nodig om het binnenland te bezoeken. Het ticket kost 10 euro per persoon. Als je naar binnen wilt in het Pantheon, kun je je ticket ter plaatse kopen.
Gebouwd op de plek van het stadion van Domitianus in de 1e eeuw na Christus, werd deze arena later omgevormd tot een plein dat een voorbeeld is van de barok-Romeinse architectuur. Het beschikt over belangrijke sculpturale werken in de drie fonteinen. De meest indrukwekkende tribunes in het midden van het plein: Bernini's prachtige Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fontein van de Vier Rivieren)
Op het Sint-Pietersplein kunt u genieten van het uitgestrekte plein met de elegante colonnades van Bernini en de grootste kerk van het christendom. Als de tijd het toelaat, kun je de basiliek betreden (in het hoogseizoen zijn de rijen om door de beveiliging en de juiste kledingcontrole te komen meestal erg lang). LET OP: de Vaticaanse Musea zijn niet inbegrepen bij deze excursie.

Ophaallocaties en -tijden
Dit is een gedeelde tour en het ophalen moet mogelijk worden gecoördineerd tussen meerdere schepen. U MOET ONS op de hoogte stellen van uw scheepsnaam, doktijd, ontschepingstijd en vertrektijd. Uw chauffeur zal u op het schip ontmoeten met een bord met uw naam erop. Neem GEEN shuttle. Bel het lokale alarmnummer in geval van problemen.

- Vanwege strikte Italiaanse wetten die gidsen met een vergunning beschermen, kunnen chauffeurs alleen commentaar geven en de bezienswaardigheden vanuit het voertuig uitleggen, en mogen ze dit niet doen als ze zich buiten het voertuig bevinden.
- Houd er rekening mee dat als er een mis plaatsvindt in de Sint-Pietersbasiliek, de toegang beperkt kan zijn. In het hoogseizoen kunnen de rijen om de basiliek binnen te gaan erg lang zijn. Er zijn geen kosten verbonden aan de toegang tot de kerk, maar schouders en knieën moeten bedekt zijn.
- MINIMALE AANTALLEN zijn van toepassing. Er is een mogelijkheid tot annulering na bevestiging als er niet genoeg passagiers zijn om aan de vereisten te voldoen. Als dit gebeurt, krijgt u een alternatief of volledige terugbetaling aangeboden.
- Als u niet klaar bent om op het toegewezen tijdstip te vertrekken, kunnen we niet langer dan een redelijke tijd op u wachten, noch kunnen we beloven het reisschema na te komen, noch beloven we de duur van de tour te verlengen.
- Volgorde van haltes kan variëren.
- Dit is een gedeelde tour en er wordt van je verwacht dat je het tempo van de groep aanhoudt. Als u beperkte mobiliteit heeft, raden we u aan een privétour te boeken voor uw beste plezier.
- Omdat het een gedeelde tour is, is het belangrijk om de tijd te respecteren die uw chauffeur bij elke stop uittrekt. We vragen u vriendelijk om op de afgesproken tijd terug te keren naar het voertuig, zodat we op schema kunnen blijven.

For being in the hub of historical Rome we visited everything on the itinerary and ate lunch within six hours (3 hours was shuttling into Rome and back from the Port of Civitavecchia. Our driver Daniel was superb in navigating the cobblestone streets to get us within 1 minute walking distance of all sites. He was precise with directions of where to meet him when he dropped us off at the sites as well as explaining ticket requirements and waiting times to see the sites. He also warned us of pickpockets in specific crowded areas. Daniel provided us a lot of valuable information. We were offered plenty of water and had adequate restroom stops.

This tour was spectacular. The van pick up was right at the gangway of our cruise ship, Raffaella, our guide/driver was fantastic. I was traveling with my 83 year-old father with mobility issues and she was so accommodating. We traveled with another family and the small group was really great. Raffaella let us choose where we wanted to go and see so everyone had the experience they wanted. She took us to another place (Monument to Victor Emannuel II Complex) and arranged assistance for my father to get stair and elevator lifts to top floor while the other part of our group went into the Colloseum. She also allowed my father to stay back in the van when he felt he couldn't navigate the place we were stopping. I am so glad we booked this and would highly recommend for anyone who is not sure they can do the walking required but want to see the major sites. We saw all the big sites, Colloseum, Pantheon, Trivi, Spanish steps, Piazalle Navona and St Peter's square and had time to go into the Monument to Victor Emmanuel II, The Pantheon, a church right next to the Pantheon that was absolutely beautiful, and St Peter's Basilica. It’s a great overview of the city. No time to get deep into any of the museums or monuments however, for a first time visitor to Rome this is the best option. Danielle, our driver was the best and knew how to get into every little nook and cranny. Also great suggestions for lunch and gelato!! Loved it!!!
Our driver, Fabio, communicated through What's App his photo and location for easy identification and pick-up at the cruise ship port. It was a little over an hour drive to the city of Rome, where we were taken to a lookout to get a great view of the city. We saw all the sights listed by Viator plus some! We are very grateful for the hospitality shown by Fabio. Our last stop was his favorite Gelato shop before dropping us off at our hotel. I left my hat in the van during the excitement of arriving and getting our baggage. The next day, my hat was delivered to the hotel! It was an essential item for touring in the summer and I'm happy to have it returned! Thank you!

Matteo was waiting to pick us up in a parking area just outside the cruise ship with a sign with my name on it. Then the drive to Rome took about an hour. The experience driving around the city in a van for 8 guests was nice, we were able to get within a couple blocks of all our stops. The tour in Rome was about 5 1/2 hours, including a stop for lunch. Matteo gave us a brief history and description before each stop and we had 20-40 minutes to take pictures. I was happy with the value. Overall, a great tour to see the highlights of Rome.
