De Iconische Koutoubiya moskee werd gebouwd in de 12e eeuw tijdens de heerschappij van het Almohad rijk. De naam betekent "Bibliothecarissen" als het gebied in de buurt was ooit een hub voor boekhandelaren en geleerden. Het is nog steeds een actieve plek voor aanbidding; bezoekers kunnen gewoon bewonderen zijn prachtige buitenkant.De moskee en de toren toont klassieke Almohad architectuur bekend om zijn eenvoud en symmetrie.Het diende als een modale voor zijn tweeling moskeeën in de huidige hoofdstad van Marokko Rabat en ook la Giralda in Sevilla als ze beide werden gebouwd door het Almohad rijk in de 12e eeuw.
De geheime tuin is gelegen in het hart van de oude stad (Medina) Het was een gedeelte van een oud paleis datin terug naar de 16e eeuw (Saadische dynastie) Het werd eeconstructed in de 19e C.It is een oase van rust weg van de drukte van de nabijgelegen quarters.The tuin werd onlangs gerestaureerd in 2016.Verdeeld in een exotisch gedeelte met planten van over de hele wereld en een islamitisch gedeelte geïnspireerd op de oude principes van paradijselijke tuinen. Het geheim van deze plek is dat het nog steeds de oude waterbeheersystemen benadrukt die dateren uit de late 11e eeuw.
Je wordt nageleid naar het ambachtskwartier waar je leert over smid, kopersmeden, lederontwerpers, kaftan, jellaba tuniekkleermakers, we hebben een echte kruideniersfamilie van vijf generaties voor een inzicht in de kunst van koken, genezen en cosmetica....
De Medersa Ben Youssef was een accommodatie universiteit meer dan alleen een islamitische school.Het beschikt over prachtige voorbeelden van traditionele Marokkaanse architectuur en ingewikkelde geometrische tegelwerk, het tonen van de vaardigheid en vakmanschap van de ambachtslieden uit dat tijdperk van de 16e eeuw.De centrale binnenplaats, met zijn prachtige fontein en sierlijke decoraties, is een bijzonder boeiende eigenschap van de medersa. Binnen kunt u de kleine studentencellen verkennen die ooit de geleerden huisvestten en het gedetailleerde houtsnijwerk, stucwerk en kalligrafie bewonderen die de muren sieren. De gebedshal, met zijn elegante mihrab (gebedsnis), is een ander hoogtepunt van de medersa. Een bezoek aan de Medersa Ben Youssef biedt een unieke kans om terug te gaan in de tijd en de rijke geschiedenis en architectonische pracht van Marokko te ervaren. Het is zeker een bezoek waard als je geïnteresseerd bent in islamitische kunst en architectuur of je wilt verdiepen in het culturele erfgoed van Marrakech.

We booked this walking tour of the Medina with some hesitation – traveling with three young children (9, 7, and 4) can be unpredictable – but it turned out to be the absolute highlight of our week in Marrakech. Our guide, Redouan Adib, was simply outstanding. From the moment we met in Jemaa el-Fnaa, Redouan made everyone feel at ease. He has a natural gift for storytelling and was very knowledgeable. He adjusted the pace perfectly for little legs, stopped whenever our youngest needed a break, and somehow turned every corner of the souk into an adventure. What could have been an overwhelming maze felt safe, fun, and utterly enchanting under Redouan’s guidance. He shared the real life of the Medina – not just the tourist sights – and his passion for his city is contagious. We laughed, we learned, and we left with hearts full and dozens of incredible photos. If you’re visiting Marrakech with kids (or without!), do yourself a favor and book this tour with Redouan. It wasn’t just a tour – it was pure magic. Redouan was amazing. He was very accommodating and flexible with the tour. He changed it as we went based on out interests. He also showed us some hidden gems in the big market to get good quality products that we alone couldn’t have found. We had a great time. We learned the history of Marrakesh and Morocco and visited some of the major sites in the old city. We took the tour on our first day in the in the city and that gave us a good orientation and ideas for more exploring.
