Quito rondleiding door de stad is perfect voor het bekijken van fascinerende panorama's, kerken, koepels en daken die een belangrijke historische waarde hebben. Je bewondert en leert over koloniale kunst, architectuur, cultuur, legendes en tradities. Quito, de hoofdstad van Ecuador, werd gesticht in de 16e eeuw op de ruïnes van een Inca-stad en staat op een hoogte van 9.350 voet. Ondanks de aardbeving in 1917, heeft de stad het best bewaarde, minst veranderde historische centrum in Latijns-Amerika. De architectuur en de rijke interieurs zijn pure voorbeelden van de Quito School of sculpture, een fusie van Spaanse, Italiaanse, Moorse, Vlaamse en inheemse kunst. Na vier ongelooflijke uren verkennen van de oude stad, zul je begrijpen waarom Quito de eerste stad ter wereld was die werd genoemd op de lijst van cultureel erfgoed van de UNESCO. Onze eerste stop is de Basilica-kerk. Je ziet een echt voorbeeld van neo-gotische architectuurstijl.
Het belangrijkste plein van de stad, Plaza Grande, wordt omringd door de belangrijkste gebouwen van het land: de kathedraal, het presidentiële paleis, het paleis van de aartsbisschop en het stadhuis.
Het paleis van de aartsbisschop is een paleisachtig gebouw opgetrokken in het historische centrum van de stad Quito DM.
We zullen het beste voorbeeld van koloniale kunst in de stad bezoeken: een jezuïetentempel, welke gevel is bedekt met ingewikkelde gravures.
De Franciscaner Orde was de eerste van de orders gevestigd in Quito. Franciscanen begonnen onmiddellijk met de bouw van een klooster, dat een centrum voor onderwijs en kunst werd en zijn eigen schilders- en beeldhouwscholen heeft (de kerk van San Francisco wordt tijdens de rondleiding bezocht).
Vanaf het observatieplatform van Panecillo en het standbeeld van de gevleugelde maagd Maria, de patrones van de stad, heb je een prachtig uitzicht over de hele stad.

My wife and I did this tour upon arrival to Quito, and it was well worth it to get your bearings when visiting the old town. Gloria our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and pointed cool must see features when looking at the Bascilla for example. I'd recommend tour.

I was lucky to have Alfredo (Freddie) as my private tour guide. He was an expert and professional tour guide who regularly works for several highly regarded US and British group tour companies. Because it was a Sunday we couldn’t spend as much time as the itinerary allotted to the 3 churches that we visited because Mass was going on. However, to compensate Alfredo added 3 additional churches at my request (one of which he had never been inside before and another that my hotel recommended that I not visit by myself because it was not considered in a safe area). He also recommended a particular restaurant overlooking Quito’s Independence Square that I liked so much that I went to dinner there for 3 consecutive nights. This tour worked particularly well for me because I was traveling in Quito on my own and it gave me a good overview of the historic center that I was able to see in more detail in subsequent days.

Juanito was outstanding. He spoke very good English and called to alert us that he would be 10 minutes later due to traffic. Very knowledgeable about all aspects of Quito. We did the 3 hour tour of the old city and several churches. The churches were amazing and we were told that local artists were trained to do all the amazing sculptures inside and out.

My family took this city tour with Ivan as our guide. Ivan was right on time to pick us up from our hotel and started the tour with the The Virgin of the Panecillo lookout. He told us lots of interesting stories about the statue and the city while walking from one viewpoint to another. We then proceeded to explore the historic center with all its beautiful churches and governmental buildings. Ivan was very adaptive to our requests and shaped the tour to our interests. At the end of the tour he suggested an absolute gem of a lunch place. That meal was our best in Quito! Thank you, Ivan, for the great tour of Quito!
