Het is het meest populaire ontmoetingspunt in Puerto Plata geworden. Het prachtige park, ook wel Plaza de la Independencia genoemd, is zelfs een nationaal symbool. Het werd gebouwd als eerbetoon aan generaal Gregorio Luperón. Hij schonk dit prachtige park aan de stad Puerto Plata, toen het de hoofdstad van de Dominicaanse Republiek was.
Op ongeveer 100 meter van het Central Park aan de Calle Duarte vindt u het Ambar Museum. Een uitstekend voorbeeld van Victoriaanse architectuur met een unieke verzameling waardevolle voorbeelden van Dominicaanse barnsteen. Experts zeggen dat deze barnsteen, die bekend staat als de meest transparante ter wereld, als halfedelsteen kwalificeert. Het wordt gevormd uit boomsap dat gedurende miljoenen jaren is uitgehard en veel fossielen van planten en insecten heeft gevangen.
Inwoners van Puerto Plata beweren trots dat hun boulevard (Malecón) de mooiste is van de Dominicaanse Republiek. Later zul je zien waarom als je de vele witte zandstranden ziet langs de hoofdstraat van de stad, elk met een naam. Naast dagen op het strand in de stad, is de lange, schaduwrijke stoep van de boulevard ideaal voor ochtend- of avondwandelingen - zonsopgangen zijn hier spectaculair....
Aan het einde van de promenade ligt een belangrijk stuk geschiedenis van Puerto Plata, het fort van San Felipe. Gebouwd door de Spanjaarden in de 16e eeuw om de noordkust van de Dominicaanse Republiek te verdedigen tegen de Britten en Nederlanders, en tegen Franse piraten die op zoek waren naar het overvloedige goud en zilver in het gebied. Beschouwd als een van de belangrijkste koloniale militaire bouwwerken in het Caribisch gebied, voltooid in 1577, deed het later dienst als gevangenis en nu als museum. Een rondleiding door het fort onthult de originele kanonnen die uitkijken op de Atlantische Oceaan, oude wapens en talloze verborgen kamers.
Daarna bezoeken we de chocoladefabriek "Del Oro", waar u zult zien hoe handgemaakte Dominicaanse chocolade wordt gemaakt. Je ervaart de kwaliteit van biologische chocolade gemaakt met 100% cacaobonen geoogst van de bodem van de Dominicaanse Republiek.
Bovendien ervaar je de smaak van Puerto Plata-rum gemaakt in Vinícola del Norte, de thuisbasis van de geweldige Macorix-rum.
Na een kort maar grondig bezoek aan Puerto Plata, ga je naar het strand van Cosita Rica, op ongeveer 10 minuten rijden. Daarna kunt u ontspannen in een gratis stoel, zwemmen in het water of genieten van een wandeling op het strand van Puerto Plata. Extra drankjes of hapjes zijn verkrijgbaar bij de strandbar en het restaurant (tegen betaling). Strandbedden zijn beschikbaar op basis van wie het eerst komt, het eerst maalt.

I just finished a tour and had a great time. Ricardo was our driver, who went above and beyond when he had to go back to o e of our stops because somebody in our group forgot their cell phone. Jesus was our tour guide and he kept us informed and entertained the entire day. We even got to meet his daughter when we stopped at Del Oro. It was an absolutely great day. I highly recommend them, you’ll have a great time (and the mamajuana they served us was delicious).

We had Jesus as our tour guy and he was amazing. Very knowledgeable, funny, and easy going. This was a great way to see the city and experience different things in the island. We would definitely do another tour with Marysol Tours and would request Jesus if possible. The tour included a stop at the Rum Factory (tasting several different flavors), Amber museum, coffee tasting, chocolate museum (with hot chocolate and brownie tasting), tobacco museum, the fort, the beach, and city center where we enjoyed some shopping at the market place (although prices where better at the chocolate factory for souvenirs)and light snacks.
The other three people were ill, so I was very fortunate that my guide, Jesus, was willing to continue the four hour tour. Ricardo, our bus driver, was very good, too, in manuring through traffic. Jesus was very informative and watched over me on the way. I saw a lot! The only negative comment is that it took about a half hour to walk to the tour bus to begin the tour. The directions were clear, but it took much longer than the directions said it would. But I highly recommend the tour.
It was one of the best tours our family has had. We were in Puerto Plata for 2 days . We called Francisco the evening we arrived. He made arrangements for the city tour the next morning and also Paradise island tour the day after. The experience was stellar. Very organised and top class. The tour guides were superb. Drinks , snacks and Lunch available. Very cost effective . They even made accommodations after the city tour to accommodate our family’s needs. We would recommend this tour to everyone !!! This was an awesome tour with the Sexy Family group. Jesus our tour guide was awesome. He definitely went beyond being a tour guide helping out with bags and spirits. We really enjoyed visiting all the sights. The people in this city were so nice and helpful.

My family and I have been using Marysol Tours since our first trip to Puerto Plata in 2013. We have done many of the tours Marysol offers. This time, we did Paradise Island, the City Tour, and for the first time the half day dune buggy tour. As always, all were a WONDERFUL experience. Francisco has always helped me to make the best experience for my family. Paradise Island is a long trip, but so worth it. It is a wonderful day of sand, sea, and snorkeling. And the buffet lunch at the end is delicious! Puerto Plata City Tour gives you an in depth look at the city and their culture. We have done it multiple times and always learn something new! And we had a blast on the dune buggy tour! But be prepared for that one, bring along old clothes and shoes and masks that you won't care about getting dirty. We had planned to do the dune buggy tour in the morning and city tour in the afternoon. By the time we got back from the dune buggies, we needed to clean up to leave on the city tour. With our party of six and only two bathrooms, we were not going to make our pick up time for the city tour. But I reached out to Francisco, and he was more than happy to accommodate us and move the City Tour to the next morning. He is a great communicator and has always taken good care of us. And on the City Tour, Ricardo had a brand new van to drive us around. It is very comfortable and the air conditioning works great. And Jesus gave us a great tour. We have met both of them on previous trips. It is fun when they come to pick us up to see familiar smiling faces. This is a great tour company, and I give them 10 stars!
