Klim door de heuvelachtige straten van Funchal tijdens een privé tuk-tuk tour van 90 minuten, met uitzicht over de stad, de baai en de heuvels daarbuiten, voordat u aankomt bij het beroemde startpunt van de mandenslee in Monte. Ik loop met je mee door de geschiedenis van deze unieke traditie, laat je precies zien waar de rit begint, en deel een paar tips voordat je vertrekt. Daarna gaan we verder door de oude binnenstad van Funchal, langs geverfde deuren, historische hoekjes en lokale straatjes. De mandensleetocht zelf wordt uitgevoerd door een aparte officiële dienst, en tickets zijn niet inbegrepen in deze tuk-tuk tour. De Monte rodelbaan loopt volgens zijn eigen schema, maar de rest van de route, vooral de oude binnenstad, kan worden gevormd rond wat je het meest interesseert. De mandenslee is een van die Madeira tradities die ongewoon klinkt totdat je het zelf hebt gezien, ik geniet er nog steeds van om de reacties van mensen de eerste keer te bekijken, voordat we de oude stad ingaan voor een verandering van tempo.

Largo da Fonte in Monte is het startpunt van Madeira’s beroemde mandensleetocht, een 19e-eeuwse traditie, toen deze rieten sleeën dienden als dagelijks transport naar Funchal. Ze worden geleid door twee ‘carreiros’ in witte outfits en strohoeden, die hun laarzen met rubberen zolen als rem gebruiken. Er is tijd om van de omgeving te genieten en foto's te maken voor de optionele rit; mandensleetickets zijn niet inbegrepen en moeten rechtstreeks aan de officiële operators worden betaald.
De oude binnenstad van Funchal is vooral bekend om straten als de Rua de Santa Maria, met zijn collectie fel geschilderde deuren, smalle geplaveide straatjes en traditionele lokale restaurants. Deze historische hoekjes zijn een van de meest karaktervolle en fotogenieke kanten van de stad.

Pick-up is inbegrepen binnen Funchal zonder extra kosten. Uw chauffeur- Gids kan u ophalen bij uw hotel, appartement, cruisehavengebied, restaurant of een ander afgesproken ontmoetingspunt in Funchal. Gelieve 5 minuten voor de geplande ophaaltijd klaar te staan. Stuur na het boeken uw exacte ophaallocatie door, en uw chauffeur - Gids zal het beste ontmoetingspunt bevestigen. Als uw accommodatie zich in een smalle of beperkte straat bevindt, kan een ophaalpunt in de buurt worden geregeld. Drop-off kan ook worden geregeld binnen Funchal, waar veilig toegankelijk.

Virgilio is awesome! We had our tuk-tuk tour on the day we arrived and it was the perfect introduction to Funchal and Madeira as a whole. Virgilio is a wealth of local knowledge and history. Communication was excellent - contacted me through whatsapp to give advice about the toboggans in Funchal. We started a little late due to the toboggan queue but this was communicated and agreed, plus we were collected from the exact point agreed. Informative and fun, the guides took photos of us and adjusted the itinerary due to a previous recent visit, and dropped us exactly where we asked. Would definitely recommend

We had a really great tour and can definitely recommend it. Our driver was very friendly, punctual, and gave us a lot of interesting information about Funchal and the surrounding area. The tuk-tuk ride was a lot of fun and the ride with the traditional wicker sled in Monte was a real highlight. We were able to see many beautiful places and had enough time to take photos.
