Perugia is de hoofdstad van Umbrië en een van de lokale heuvelsteden. Het is een stad vol charme en geschiedenis. Met je privégids wandel je langs de stadsmuur die dateert uit het Etruskische tijdperk, verdwaal je in de symbolen die door Nicola en Giovanni Pisano in de Fontana Maggiore zijn gesneden en word je gefascineerd door de vele lagen van de Rocca Paolina.

Perugia, de regionale hoofdstad, is een oude stad in het centrale noorden van Umbrië. Het historische centrum is gebouwd op de hoge heuvels langs de rechteroever van de rivier de Tiber
De Rocca Paolina, of het Paolina-fort, ligt in het historische centrum van Perugia en men kan via een deur in Porta Marzia of het roltrapsysteem dat Piazza Italia verbindt met Piazza Partigiani binnengaan.
Porta Marzia is een oude Etruskische poort uit de 3e eeuw voor Christus, ooit de belangrijkste zuidelijke ingang van de stad, nu opgenomen in de muren van de Rocca Paolina als een opmerkelijk voorbeeld van bewaard gebleven klassieke architectuur.
Corso Vannucci is de hoofdstraat van Perugia, een levendige voetgangersstraat met historische gebouwen, winkels en cafés, die de belangrijkste pleinen van de stad verbindt en een prachtig uitzicht biedt over de Umbrische vallei.
Het bovenste marmeren bassin heeft twaalf zijden, verdeeld in vierentwintig gladde panelen van roze Assisi-steen. Elke kamer is gescheiden door een gelijk aantal witte Carrara-marmeren beeldjes op richels tussen de panelen. Sommige figuren vertegenwoordigen personages uit de geschiedenis van de stad en legendes, terwijl andere symbolisch zijn.
De kathedraal van St. Lawrence bevindt zich in het historische centrum van Perugia op Piazza IV Novembre, de zuidelijke gevel tegenover het plein.

Simona truly captivated us with her guided tour of Perugia. We have a new appreciation for this Umbrian town. The underground ruins were especially interesting to us, with the explanations going back to the Etruscans and how to spot Etruscan vs Roman etc Grazie Simona!
Perugia is wonderful. But the guide really did not bring it to life with stories. A very nice person, warm, warm and great English, but we did not feel we left with any much more knowledge than before.

For first time visitors to Perugia I HIGHLY recommend this tour.We were so lucky to have the lovely Marika to show us around below and above this beautiful city.She was highly knowledgeable but also FUN..There is a lot of historical information to take on board when trying to understand how Perugia began but she showed us everything with such patience and without any rush or worry about time constraint.She gave us some top class tips for restaurants which became the highlights of our wonderful short stay in the area.She thought it was very special that we were from Cumbria (UK) visiting Umbria (Italy) and drew so many interesting Roman connections between the two distant regions..so much we have since researched and all fact!!Thanks so much Marika!!
Our guide was wonderful. It was pouring rain when the tour started so he changed the plans and took us to a museum. When the weather cleared up, we finished the tour. Great time and a great introduction to Perugia.
