De Basiliek (Basilica di Santa Chiara in het Italiaans) is een kerk gewijd aan en bevat de overblijfselen van Sint Clara van Assisi, een volgeling van Sint Franciscus van Assisi en oprichter van de Orde van Arme Dames, tegenwoordig bekend als de Orde van Sint Clare.
Chiesa Nuova. De Chiesa Nuova is een kerk in Assisi, Italië, gebouwd in 1615 op de plaats van de vermoedelijke geboorteplaats van St. Franciscus, het huis van Pietro di Bernardone. Het heette toen Chiesa Nuova omdat het de laatste kerk was die in die tijd in Assisi werd gebouwd.
De tempel van Minerva is een oud Romeins gebouw in Assisi, Umbrië, Midden-Italië. Het herbergt momenteel een kerk, Santa Maria sopra Minerva, gebouwd in 1539 en gerenoveerd in barokstijl in de 17e eeuw.
Erkend als UNESCO-werelderfgoed, werd de basiliek van Sint Franciscus gebouwd onder leiding van frater Elias, vicaris-generaal en architect van de orde, beginnend in 1228, slechts twee jaar na de dood van de heilige, als een plek ontworpen om zijn stoffelijk overschot.
Als de plechtige en donkere lagere basiliek boete en stilte uitnodigt, zweeft de hogere kerk in de lucht, luchtig en helder. In een gotische stijl met Franse invloeden, heeft het schip vier baaien, kruisgewelf en een veelhoekige dwarsschip en apsis.

- Op zondagen, grote katholieke feestdagen en nationale feestdagen zijn rondleidingen in de Sint-Franciscusbasiliek verboden. Je gids zal je de kerk van buitenaf uitleggen en je gaat alleen naar binnen in stilte.
- Vanwege de tentoonstelling van de overblijfselen van Sint Franciscus worden rondleidingen door de basiliek opgeschort van 15 februari 2026 tot 6 april 2026. De Gids geeft uitleg van buitenaf, waarna bezoekers zelfstandig naar binnen kunnen.

Barbara was extraordinarily knowledgeable. She educated us well on Assisi’s history, the life of St. Francis, and the fine details of the artwork in the basilica and the criticality of Giotto’s innovations to future artistic developments in the Renaissance. No surprise since she was a teacher in her prior life. A great guide!!

It starts from the top of town at the church of St Clare. Very interesting. Our guide was very knowledgeable and shared his personal insights. We took the quiet road behind the town to the Basilica and it was a delight.

Personalized tour of this beautiful city. Even though we were there during a holiday and tour guides were not allowed into the churches, our guide went through detailed instructions of what to look for and how to go through each church.

The guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the church, the region and St. Francis. She spoke good English and was quite understandable even when speaking quietly inside the churches.. The pace was easy and covered a lot of ground.

Tour is a private tour which takes you through the history of Assisi, the Poor Claires, St. Francis and the Basilica of St. Francis. Guide was knowledgeable and quite opinionated, but treated the physical sites with dignity and respect. Tour does not include the resting place Carlo Acutis.
