6,7,8,9 uur we beginnen je tour naar Alexandrië, de op één na grootste stad van Egypte, al bijna duizend jaar hoofdstad van Egypte. Alexandrië werd gesticht door Alexander de Grote en heeft een sfeer die meer mediterraan is dan het Midden-Oosten en beroemd is vanwege de Romeinse overblijfselen.
Je eerste stop in deze historische stad zijn de catacomben, de grootste Romeinse begraafplaats, bestaande uit drie niveaus die in de rotsen zijn uitgehouwen uit de 1e of 2e eeuw.
De 'Pompey-pilaar', ook bekend als de meest gerespecteerde herdenkingszuil van Egypte, staat hoog als symbool van historische betekenis. Dit kolossale bouwwerk is gemaakt van massief rood graniet en bereikt een duizelingwekkende hoogte van ongeveer 28 meter, terwijl de basis een indrukwekkende diameter van 2,7 meter heeft. Het bovenste gedeelte van de westelijke zijde siert een inscriptie in de elegante taal van het Grieks. Deze inscriptie is een eerbetoon aan de gewaardeerde keizer Diocletianus, bekend om zijn onwankelbare inzet voor gerechtigheid en zijn rol als bewaker van Alexandrië. Het erkent ook de monumentale inspanningen van Postumus, de gewaardeerde prefect van Egypte, die toezicht hield op de oprichting van dit prachtige monument. Door zijn grootsheid en historische relevantie dient de Pompeiuszuil als een bewijs van het rijke erfgoed en de blijvende erfenis van Egypte.
Houd er bij een bezoek van buitenaf rekening mee dat: De Qaitbay-citadel in Alexandrië wordt beschouwd als een van de belangrijkste verdedigingsbolwerken in Egypte en langs de Middellandse Zeekust. In de 15e eeuw na Christus was het essentieel voor de vestingwerken van Alexandrië. De Citadel bevindt zich bij de ingang van de oostelijke haven op de oostelijke punt van het eiland Pharos. Het werd gebouwd op de plaats van de beroemde vuurtoren van Alexandrië, een van de zeven wonderen van de antieke wereld. De vuurtoren bleef functioneren tot de tijd van de Arabische verovering. Er vonden verschillende rampen plaats en de vorm van de vuurtoren werd tot op zekere hoogte veranderd, maar hij bleef werken. De restauratie begon tijdens Ahmed Ibn Tulun (ongeveer 880 na Christus). Tijdens de 11e eeuw beschadigde een aardbeving het achthoekige deel. De onderkant overleefde maar kon alleen als uitkijktoren dienen, dus werd er bovenop een kleine moskee gebouwd. In de 14e eeuw verwoestte een verwoestende aardbeving het gebouw. optionele stop voor lunch op de vismarkt
De bibliotheek van Alexandrië was een van de beroemdste en meest invloedrijke bibliotheken ter wereld. Het bevond zich in Alexandrië, Egypte, en werd in de derde eeuw voor Christus gebouwd door de grote heerser Ptolemaeus I Soter. De bibliotheek is ontworpen om een enorme collectie boeken en manuscripten te huisvesten, waaronder werken over filosofie, wiskunde, wetenschap en literatuur. Het werd al snel een centrum van kennis en cultuur in de antieke wereld, en zijn invloed reikte tot ver buiten Alexandrië. De bibliotheek van Alexandrië stond bekend om zijn enorme collectie boeken en manuscripten. Er werd gezegd dat het tot 500.000 boekrollen bevatte en een van de grootste kennisverzamelingen in de antieke wereld was. De bibliotheek was ook de thuisbasis van verschillende beroemde geleerden en denkers, waaronder de wiskundige Euclides en de astronoom Eratosthenes.

Our tour to Alejandria was an absolutely wonderful experience, especially as a couple traveling together. From start to finish, everything was perfectly organized, allowing my husband and me to fully relax and enjoy the day. Ahmed was knowledgeable, engaging, and shared fascinating insights while making us feel comfortable and cared for throughout the journey. Also took great pictures of us. Meanwhile, Maged ensured a smooth, safe, and pleasant ride, which made a big difference in how enjoyable and stress-free the trip felt. We had a memorable time in Alexandria because we have the best tour guide Ehab Mehana and our driver Maged. We were picked up from our hotel and drove about 3 hours to reach our destination. Ehab is sensitive to our needs, giving us time for toilet or coffee breaks. He has very good command of the English language. He didn’t rush us in any place , he gave us enough time to explore and even volunteered to take our pictures. He is very knowledgeable and can answer all our questions. Best of all a very patient guide with many years of experience. It shows how much he is enjoying his work . By the end of the day he is like a family to us .Hope to see him again someday . We had a wonderful trip to Alexandria with our driver, Shadi. He was punctual, professional, and very friendly throughout the day. The travel to Alexandria while long (2.5 hours) , it was quite smooth. We got to see all the key sites (the catacombs , the citadel, the library and the Pompeii column) and Fady our guide was quite helpful and patient.

I only booked the driver. The driver Karim is friendly and responsive. He drove safely and took us to different points at Alexandria, and allowed us some free time to explore. He also took us to a seafood restaurant for lunch. Thank you for arranging everything.

A really disappointing day, the driver to Alexandria took 5 hours due to fog and when we arrived the tour was cut short so we could get back to Cairo. There was no discussion regarding the tour being cut short and theee was no reason for us to be back in Cairo at 5pm. I felt the whole experience was a rip off and couldn’t recommend this to anyone.
