Dit is zeker een van Roatan's meest populaire excursies aan land. U krijgt de kans om een van de beste dierenreservaten op het eiland te bezoeken en rond te hangen met kostbare dieren zoals luiaards, apen, vogels en meer. En alsof dat nog niet genoeg is, kun je er ook voor kiezen om een canopy tour/zip-line avontuur te doen bij Mayan Eden. Je hebt ook de mogelijkheid om een strandpas toe te voegen bij Paradise Beach Resort, gelegen direct aan het beste strand van heel Midden-Amerika, West Bay Beach (eerder verkozen tot de top 20 strandbestemmingen in de wereld op Travelers Choice Awards). En als je geen zin hebt om naar het strand te gaan of iets lekkers wilt toevoegen, kun je een bezoek/stop maken bij The Roatan Chocolate Factory in West End. Bij de chocoladefabriek krijg je een rondleiding door de fabriek om te zien hoe het gemaakt wordt, leer je veel over chocolade en Honduras en probeer je natuurlijk 12 verschillende soorten jaguar vriendelijke en internationaal gerenommeerde chocolade. Iemand zin in een luiaard? Mayan Eden is de perfecte plek om rond te hangen met luiaards in Roatan. Dit geweldige dierenreservaat ligt in de jungle en is de thuisbasis van kostbare dieren zoals luiaards, apen, vogels en meer. Je kunt er ook voor kiezen om een canopy/zip-line tour te doen in Mayan Eden.
Optionele stop: dit is de perfecte fotomoment tussen West End en West Bay! Je kunt beide kanten van het eiland zien vanaf een van de hoogste toppen in Roatán. Het uitzicht is gewoon geweldig. Entree: om naar binnen te gaan, moet je $ 2 betalen, een biertje / drankje kopen of iets kopen in hun souvenirwinkel.
Optionele stop: leer over rum, maak je eigen rum, probeer de rum, koop rumcake en ander lekkers! Geniet vanaf hun terras van het geweldige uitzicht over het hele West End van het eiland.
We nemen je mee naar een van de beste resorts in West Bay Beach, Paradise Beach Resort. Het resort zelf is prachtig en heeft rondom een fantastisch uitzicht, waaronder het adembenemende uitzicht vanuit hun junglezwembad op een steenworp afstand van het heldere water van Roatán. Het strand van West Bay is misschien wel het beste strand in Midden-Amerika, het is gewoon geweldig. Hier heb je toegang tot vele activiteiten, attracties, restaurants en nog veel meer. Enkele van de beste snorkelmogelijkheden ter wereld kunnen een paar slagen direct bij West Bay Beach worden ervaren. Als je naar Roatán komt, is een bezoek aan West Bay een must.
We nemen je mee naar waarschijnlijk de meest bezochte plek op het eiland, The Roatan Chocolate Factory. Als je er eenmaal bent, begrijp je waarom. Hier leer je over chocolade, het maken van chocolade, de geschiedenis van chocolade en Honduras, de voordelen en positieve effecten van cacao in het regenwoud van La Moskitia in Honduras en natuurlijk probeer je 12 verschillende soorten jaguarvriendelijke, internationaal bekende chocolade. Je bent in voor een traktatie! Als de tijd het toelaat en je hebt er zin in, kunnen we een wandeltocht maken door West End, waar je andere winkels, souvenirs, kunstgalerijen, gerecyclede kunst, rockwinkels en meer kunt bekijken.
Optionele stop: dit is een gebied waar u kunt zien hoe de lokale bevolking leeft en waar u de prachtige wijk Flowers Bay kunt bekijken. Veel van de huizen hier staan op palen aan het water. Hier krijgen we een kans voor nog een fotomoment of twee! Een foto maken bij het officiële Roatan-bord is een must!

This excursion was very expensive for what it was. The sanctuary we went to was over run with people and we only very briefly got to hold a monkey one time and that was it, and we were there for a long time waiting. We had to wait a long time to start the zip line and by the time we got to the beach we only really had an hour there. And the beach was also very crowded and didn’t feel much like a beach. There were tons of boats parked right up by the beach too which took away from the vibe. We did a couple other excursions at other ports during our cruise. This was by far the most expensive and the least appealing.

We understand that waiting for activities and having limited beach time can be frustrating, especially when visiting from a cruise ship where schedules are fixed. While we work hard to maximize the experience within the time available, factors such as attraction wait times, traffic, and port schedules can sometimes impact the amount of time spent at each stop. West Bay Beach is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, but on days when multiple cruise ships are in port, it can be considerably busier than on other days. The number of boats operating in the area may also vary depending on weather, tour schedules, and daily activity levels. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for visiting Roatán. Great tour. Mario was our guide and he was wonderful, friendly and knowledgeable. We visited the monkeys, sloths, toucans and butterflies, then went on to the chocolate factory. We walked across the street and enjoyed a Honduran beer at a bar overlooking the water.
Despite the initial chaos at the meet up spot, all the locals were friendly and helpful and connected us to our driver/tour guide- Jason. He did a wonderful job and was very informative and patient during our great tour. The "Sloth Sanctuary" is a small zoo in a jungle which is great if you can handle semi steep hill climbs and descents over uneven terrain-wear comfortable shoes. Overall, the tour was a great experience That I would do again.
Jason was a fantastic guide today! We saw so much of the island and he had a wealth of knowledge about the history and culture. He knew the spots to go to, knew people at each stop and really made our day a personal tour. Definitely would recommend to anyone visiting Roatan.
We had a great time with Jayson as our driver. He met us near the cruise ship, and we walked to their vehicle. He then drove us to the animal sanctuary and also to the zip lining course that we added to our adventure. Jayson was very patient with all of us and gave us lots of information about the local culture and geography. He took us to both very local non-touristy areas as well as the tourist areas that we requested. He took us to a great lookout point where we had wonderful views and also a few local crafts people. We really enjoyed the food at the local restaurant that he took us to as well as the small chocolate shop. The zip line adventure was perfect for us, but did require some hiking and stair steps. It rained lightly in the morning while we were zip lining which only added to the tropical adventure. We highly recommend Jayson and Dani’s tour group.
We had a private driver who took us safely to our destinations and was there to take us on to our next location and back to the ship. She was kind and even provided wipes and an umbrella when needed. Sadly most of the animals that we saw at the sanctuary were in large cages. We were able to hold a monkey (not caged) and a Mccaw. We were even able to get some excellent selfies with a sloth (no touching though). The Mayan Eden sanctuary was like a small zoo in a poor country. The chocolate factory was interesting, as well. Overall it was a great experience and it was awesome to have a private guide.
This is a *great* group to adventure with. Dani (manager) is super helpful and really responsive. Our tour guide (Billy) was exactly what you hope for when signing up for a local tour guide: he knows all the tourism stuff, but also knows all the 'extra' bits, that add colour to a trip. We had a super afternoon- just the right pace, fun things along the way. It is very low-key, so don't come expecting flashing llights and big-scale commercial stops. You will get a sense of the scale and feel of the island, meet people who do what they do because they love it, and see past the tourist strip sections of Roatan.
Dani was an amazing tour guide! He got us everywhere safely. We did a private tour (the wives) while the husbands went zip lining. We went to the sloth and monkey sanctuary, the iguana sanctuary, and the chocolate factory with great local shopping at each location.
We had an amazing day with Mario! He was courteous, informative, and friendly! The Sanctuary was so fun! Definitely wear comfortable shoes as the terrain in uneven & a bit rocky.
Absolutely great tour given by Orlando. He was very knowledgeable about the island and drove us safely and expertly around Roatan’s hilly terrain. Mayan Eden was so much fun and the sloths and monkeys were our favorites. After visiting the Chocolate Factory and getting some ice cream, Orlando took us to a wonderful restaurant with a beautiful overlook and great food. Thank you RTGA!!!
