Alleen jullie tweeën, op je eigen privétour in een cabrio met open dak, bezoek het prachtige middeleeuwse stadje Obidos. U krijgt de gelegenheid om de smalle straatjes te bewonderen en door de winkels te bladeren. Je kunt over de muren lopen met een prachtig uitzicht op het omliggende landschap en je bezoek beëindigen met het drinken van traditionele Ginjinha de Óbidos (zure kersenbrandewijn), die op verschillende plaatsen kan worden genoten, bij voorkeur gedronken uit een klein chocoladekopje. Nadat je door de straten van Obidos bent gelopen, kun je daar blijven voor de lunch, OF, met het dak naar beneden, naar de Obidos-lagune rijden en lunchen bij het prachtige strand van Foz de Arelho. Geniet van een lunch in een van de vele cafés en wandel over de zandstranden. Zodra de lunch voorbij is, rijden we naar de stad Mafra met zijn prachtige paleis. Breng tijd door met dwalen en bewonder de weelde voordat u geniet van een kopje koffie in de stad. Dan is het tijd om via de kustweg terug te keren naar je accommodatie in Lissabon of Cascais/SIntra.

Het middeleeuwse stadje Óbidos is een van de meest pittoreske en best bewaard gebleven in Portugal. Binnen de muren vind je een goed bewaard gebleven kasteel en een doolhof van straatjes en witte huizen waar het heerlijk kuieren is. De hoofdkerk van Santa Maria, de Misericórdia-kerk, de kerk van São Pedro, de schandpaal en, buiten de muren, het aquaduct en het ronde heiligdom Senhor Jesus da Pedra, zijn slechts enkele van de bezienswaardigheden die je zou kunnen bezoeken. De lokale keuken bestaat uit bouillabaisse gemaakt met vis uit de lagune van Óbidos, die nog beter zal smaken onder begeleiding van de wijnen uit de regio Oeste. Een andere attractie is de beroemde Ginjinha de Óbidos (zure kersenbrandewijn), die op verschillende plaatsen kan worden genoten, bij voorkeur gedronken uit een klein chocoladekopje.
Op de samenvloeiing tussen de lagune van Óbidos en de zee, biedt het strand van Foz do Arelho de keuze tussen twee zeer verschillende soorten stranden. Aan de ene kant de lagune, een plaats van grote natuurlijke schoonheid met zijn oevers bedekt met dichte vegetatie en zijn zachte water, ideaal voor kinderen en windsurfen, profiterend van de bries die hier normaal waait. Aan de andere kant, de open oceaan, ruig maar zonder noemenswaardige onderstromingen die uitstekende surfomstandigheden creëren met een Europese Blauwe Vlag die getuigt van de kwaliteit van de wateren bij dit strand.
De pure pracht van het monumentale architectonische ontwerp van het paleis, het klooster en de basiliek van Mafra getuigt van de weelde van het hof van koning João V. Het paleis, de zomerresidentie van de koninklijke familie, omvat verschillende collecties met werken van voornamelijk Portugese, Italiaanse en Franse kunstenaars die op koninklijke bestelling werken, waaronder barokke schilder- en beeldhouwkunst, religieuze gewaden en ornamenten en muurschilderingen van vooraanstaande Portugese kunstenaars De basiliek herbergt een set van zes orgels, uniek wereldwijd en ze komen naast twee beiaarden met in totaal 114 klokken - 57 in elke toren. Gemaakt in Antwerpen in de 18e eeuw, ze zijn ook de grootste in hun soort wereldwijd.

We had such a great experience last year with Lain, that we returned again this year! Best way to start our vacation - pick up day one with Lain for a tour. We enjoyed Obidos this time around and drop off in Sintra at the end of the day. Another wonderful experience and highly recommended.

We went to Óbidos, Foz de Arelho and Buddha Eden Gardens. Iain was the perfect guide for us. Explained all about each place and answered any questions. Really lovely guy and perfect guide. Iain picked us up from our hotel at the time agreed and our adventure began. From start to finish, it was what we wanted and so much more. Had a coffee stop in Óbidos, lunch in Foz de Arelho and Iain allowed us to explore Buddha Eden Gardens together. Has given us some great ideas for future trips and I will definitely return and Iain I hope will be free on our dates to help us explore more of the beauty Portugal has to offer. Ian was a delightful and patient companion as we toured Obidos, the Silver Coast and Mafra. He allowed us to set the pace, and encouraged us to take coffee breaks, to wander in and out of shops and churches. We had a delightful lunch at a restaurant facing the lagoon and ocean on the silver coast, and he gave us plenty of time to visit the palace and basilica at Mafra. The entire day was splendid!

Went on a full day tour from Lisbon. It was an exciting trip and I would highly recommend Iain Bendrey from portugaltours4two.com. We spent a few amazing hours at the medieval town of Obidos before being driven in a convertible along the western coast stopping at Boca da Inferno, Guincho, Cabo da Roca, Praia Grande e Azenhas do Mar, Cascais and returning to Lisbon. Besides the feeling of being in a walled-up medieval town with a castle, Obidos certainly has many interesting little shops to try out their amazing Ginja de Obidos (cherry liquor) and freshly squeezed orange juice. Iain showed us many natural hidden gems along the coastal route and that made the trip all the more worthwhile. The picturesque beauty of nature along the route was breathtaking. Do capture the best of Portugal with Iain as he patiently drives you on a safe journey and takes you to the best spots to admire.
