Je begint je stadstour door Addis Abeba met het Nationaal Museum van Ethiopië. Dit is een van de beste musea in kwaliteit en diversiteit van de tentoonstellingen. Archeologische tentoonstellingen omvatten het 3,5 miljoen jaar oude fossiel van Lucy (of Dinkinesh – ‘gij zijt wonderbaarlijk’- in de moedertaal), een hominoïde vrouw van de soort Australopithecus Afarensis. De ontdekking van Lucy’s fossiel in 1974 dwong tot een complete heroverweging van de menselijke genealogie, op voorwaarde dat onze voorouders 2,5 miljoen jaar eerder liepen dan werd verondersteld. Het Nationaal Museum bevat ook vele prachtige artefacten die dateren uit de pre-Axumite beschaving.
We vervolgen onze rondreis door Addis Abeba met een bezoek aan het etnografisch museum dat te vinden is in de compound van de Addis Ababa University. Dit museum is heel anders dan het Nationaal Museum, maar even goed absorberend, deze museumtentoonstelling, een gevarieerd aanbod van artefacten en dagelijkse voorwerpen die verband houden met de meeste etnische groepen die in Ethiopië wonen.
we rijden bergopwaarts naar Entoto, dat eens het permanente kamp van de keizer Minilik II was. Als je de heuvel oprijdt, neemt de hoogte aanzienlijk af en wordt de lucht gevuld met de geur van de Eucalyptusbomen die het gebied bedekken. Vanaf de top is er een panoramisch uitzicht op de hoofdstad en het omliggende platteland.
Als je terugkomt van de berg wordt je verwelkomd met een drukke lokale markt voor handgemaakte traditionele kleding. Bukken op de markt is optioneel.
Na de lunch gaat de rondleiding door de stad van Addis Ababa verder met het bezoek aan Merkato, de grootste openluchtmarkt in Afrika, waar bijna alle mogelijke producten te koop zijn.
Ons bezoek gaat verder met de St. George Cathedral, een van de oudste kathedraal in Addis Ababa en waar keizer Haileselasie, en keizerin Zewditu is gekroond
Ons laatste bezoek is het Tiglachin-monument, een gedenkteken voor Ethiopische en Cubaanse soldaten die betrokken zijn bij de Ogaden-oorlog. Het werd gebouwd onder Mengistu Haile Mariam op Churchill Ave. Rij vervolgens terug naar het hotel.

Had a fantastic time with our guide Teshome and our driver Nebiyu. Teshome is a wealth of knowledge and we really felt like we got a good sense of the culture and history of the city in one day. We look forward to returning again in the future to explore more of Ethiopia.
Wonderful day spent around Addis Ababa with Teshome (our guide) and Nebiyu (driver). Teshome is knowledgable and was able to answer our million questions about Ethiopia’s history, culture etc. Polite and friendly both Teshome and Nebiyu made the day worth every minute.

My guide (Teshome) was very knowledgeable, spoke great English, and was a great tour guide. We checked out local markets, museums, and local spots. Overall was a fun and exciting tour.
