Voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog was er geen Centraal Station, maar waren er vier stations rondom het centrum. In 1957 werd het centraal station geopend op de huidige locatie. In 2004 is gestart met een totale renovatie van het centraal station, in 2014 is het huidige eindresultaat opgeleverd. Het oude station kon de toestroom van reizigers niet meer aan.
In 2011 organiseerde de gemeente Rotterdam het eerste stadsinitiatief, een bestuurlijk instrument om bestuurlijke innovatie en burgerparticipatie te stimuleren. Rotterdammers werden opgeroepen om projecten in te dienen die de stad levendiger zouden maken en de leefbaarheid in de stad zouden verbeteren. Voor de uitvoering van het project is vanuit het stadsinitiatief een bedrag van 4 miljoen gereserveerd.
In de Middeleeuwen één van de 10 stadspoorten die Rotterdam hier had. In de jaren '30 groeide de stad Rotterdam snel en stond de poort in de weg, omdat ze een betere doorstroming wilden voor het toenemende verkeer. Besloten werd de poort zo'n 100 meter te verplaatsen (een sloop van de poort stuitte op veel weerstand). Tijdens het bombardement in de Tweede Wereldoorlog raakte de poort zwaar beschadigd, een jaar na het bombardement werd de poort gesloopt, omdat deze niet meer af te maken was. Enkele sierwerken uit de oude poort werden bewaard en verwerkt in de muren van de gebouwen op de hoek van het stadhuisplein.
Het stadhuis is gebouwd tussen 1914 en 1920 (door Henri Evers) en is een van de weinige gebouwen in het centrum van Rotterdam die het bombardement van 14 mei 1940 heeft overleefd.
Momenteel is de meet één van de hotspots in Rotterdam. Er zijn veel cafés, eettentjes en kledingwinkels. In de jaren 90 was de Meent een straat waar vooral uitzendbureaus en reisbureaus gevestigd waren, de Meent was een sfeerloze straat met veel leegstand. Robin von Weiler is geen onbekende in Rotterdam. Zijn bijnaam meneer de Meent heeft hij te danken aan alles wat hij voor deze straat heeft gedaan en nog steeds doet.
De Laurenskerk is het enige overblijfsel van het middeleeuwse centrum van Rotterdam. De laurenskerk is een kruising tussen een hallenkerk (alle gebouwen even hoog) en een kruisbasiliek (hier zijn de zijtorens lager dan de hoofdtoren). De kerk werd gebouwd tussen 1449 en 1525.

In de jaren 70 van de 20e eeuw wilden architecten met participatie van de bewoners en andere gebruikers gastvrije woongebieden creëren als antwoord op het grootschalige en grijze modernisme van de architectuur van de wederopbouw na WOII. Piet Blom, structuralist en aanhanger van Aldo van Eyck, ging ervan uit dat grootschalige gebouwen gebouwd moesten worden op mensenmaat door ze op te bouwen uit kleinschalige herkenbare elementen. Het basisidee, dat het gebouw op kolommen is gebouwd, zodat de ruimte onder de gebouwen openbaar kan blijven, is geïnspireerd op Le Corbusier

Ophaallocaties en -tijden
Ophalen en afzetten van reizigers wordt aangeboden. Als u in een hotel in het centrum verblijft, is de gemakkelijkste manier met de minste kans op misverstanden u op te halen bij uw hotel. Geef daarom altijd aan in welk hotel u verblijft. Wij halen onze gasten op bij alle hotels in en rond het centrum van Rotterdam, ook degene die hierboven niet vermeld staan. Ik bied ook ophaalservice op de meest voorkomende aanlegplaatsen van cruiseschepen. De meeste zeecruiseschepen meren aan bij de Rotterdam Cruise Terminal, de meeste riviercruiseschepen aan de Boompjeskade. Indien u ergens anders opgehaald wilt worden kunt u dit ook aangeven. Als je niet in een hotel in het centrum zit en geen suggesties hebt waar je opgehaald kunt worden, zullen we een aantal locaties voorstellen om af te spreken. Hotel pick-up wordt aangeboden. This was a wonderful tour. As we had already visited Rotterdam on another vacation, we wanted to see and hear about some different and unusual sights. Our guide surely made that happen. He told us many interesting stories and we were very pleased with this tour! P.S. He did take a picture of us and promised to text it to us but I have not received it yet. I forget his name but he is studying medicine at the University and we would love to have the picture

We were supposed to take this tour (and had paid), but 15 minutes before the tour, they called and wanted to delay it by 30 minutes due to a summer festival (we booked this months ago and the summer festival was something planned for months that they knew was occurring). Since it was afternoon, we could not delay, as we were on a cruise ship. We were willing to go late, but they said they could not guarantee we would be back by the time we needed to return to the ship. I asked if they could refund the money; they stated that we would have to check with customer service. They asked what we wanted to do; we said we would have to cancel if they could not guarantee we would be back on time. Now, they are saying we lied, that they did offer the original time (they did not - my husband heard the conversation), and the person I was talking with refuses to refund our money (over $150 - there was no other "customer service" person). I would not trust booking with them again, which is too bad since we will be back again in a few months.

However, we do need to correct several statements in your review which are not true.. The proposed 2:30 PM start was presented as an option, not as the only available pickup time. Once you explained that you needed to return to your cruise ship by approximately 3:00–3:15 PM, we immediately offered to keep the original 2:00 PM meeting time and shorten the tour so you could return within your preferred timeframe. We also explained that, as a responsible operator, we could never guarantee an exact return time due to circumstances outside anyone's control, such as traffic or unexpected congestion. After discussing the option together, you decided to cancel the tour. At no point did we refuse to operate it. Regarding the festival, this was precisely why we contacted you before the tour; to communicate the situation and work with you on the best solution. Our goal was to make the tour possible despite the circumstances. We're disappointed that our recollection of the conversation differs so significantly, but we stand by the facts and the efforts we made to accommodate your schedule. Very relaxed, fun & interesting covering a relatively small area of central Rotterdam. Someone younger than I am might have enjoyed doing it as a walking tour. Guide Izzy was fun and informative.

Izzy was great with communication prior to our tour and the day of. We were picked up right in front of the cruise port and dropped there as well after the tour which was super convenient. Izzy has a real passion for what he does. He showed us some off-the-beaten path sites and shared lots of interesting information about Rotterdam. He has great energy and a good vibe. Our driver, Mo, was enthusiastic, friendly, knowledgeable and thoughtful. We learned much about Rotterdam and it's history visiting the historic area. The unique architectural buildings were fascinating. This was a very enjoyable experience on an electric pedicab. Highly recommend.
