Oudong, gelegen in de provincie Kampong Speu, is een klein stadje 40 km ten noordwesten van Phnom Penh. Het wordt Oudong Meanchey genoemd. Het diende als de hoofdstad van Cambodja onder verschillende soevereinen tussen 1618 en 1866. Het is nu een bedevaartsoord voor Cambodjanen en heeft veel lokale bezoekers tijdens religieuze vieringen. Je moet over een geschikt niveau van fitheid beschikken om deze tour te ondernemen, want je moet naar de top van een heuvel klimmen om de nieuwste toevoeging aan Phnom Oudong te bezoeken. Dit is een moderne tempel waar een Boeddha-relikwie te vinden is, voorheen gehuisvest in Phnom Penh. De attractie hier is niet alleen de stoepa, maar ook het adembenemende uitzicht over de omgeving. Je kunt ook de apen die hier in grote aantallen leven, gebruiken en voeden.

Na het ophalen van uw hotel, ontdekt u de landschappen van Cambodja in uw keuze voor een Tuk Tuk of auto tijdens de 90 minuten durende reis naar de Oudong-tempel. Onderweg geniet je van een lokale snack voor ochtendthee. Daarna beklim je de heuvel om de verschillende tempels te bezoeken, te genieten van het uitzicht en te kijken hoe de monniken hun dagelijkse leven leiden. Na je afdaling wordt een traditionele Cambodjaanse lunch geserveerd aan de voet van de heuvel, in een typische palenhut. Daarna is het een korte rit naar een boeddhistisch centrum dat bekend staat als Putmondul. Hier zie je monniken en nonnen, evenals veel lokale bewoners die geluk zoeken door hun aanbod. Het is de thuisbasis van een prachtige liggende Boeddha en vele mooie schilderijen die de geschiedenis van deze religie weergeven.

Our guide Siphat was great. He was able to adapt the program to our wishes: frequently stopping along the road to take pictures. We loved Udong with its many stupas. Highly recommended.
Visited the Oudong Monastery for a group Buddhist blessing which was great, although I didn't have a clue what was said . Thereafter, we had an opportunity to see how the monks lived and viewed the largest Buddhist stature in Cambodia.
Great tour! Guide was extremely knowledgeable and open to all sorts of questions and diversions. Never felt rushed but took it at "our" pace. Really nice tour, would recommend to others.
It is a good tour. If I could choose again I would probably choose car instead of tuk tuk, because the raid to oudong isn't the best road and you get dusty alone the way. I get to see the country side of the Phnom Penh, which is very interesting. The temple is located on top of the hill. Weather was extremely hot in July. So be prepared! View on the hill is amazing. I recommend for those who already seen most of the attractions in the city and would like to see different side of the Phnom Penh.
Close to Phnom Penh, this temple tour is super interesting and requires a little effort to climb the many steps. Admission for foreigners. Possibility to eat at the bottom of the temple. Beautiful views from the top of the hill.
Loved the visit to the Monastery for the Buddhist blessing, as I practice Buddhism, the grounds and history fascinating, the inside of the temple was very beautiful and elaborately decorated.

Our guide, Pich was the best! Knowledgeable, passionate about Cambodia, the people and conservation. We loved this tour - we had booked tuk tuk but were so glad that the showed up to pick us up in a very nice air conditioned car for the 90 minute drive to Oudong. We visited an amazing monastery, climbed up to the temple, had a Buddhist blessing, saw the food markets outside and visited a village to see them making silver wear which we bought of course, so beautiful. We had lunch included too! This tour company gives the guides money for the children and cleaners around the temple so that you are free not to respond to the “begging” if you don’t want to...they are highly recommended.
