Het Adelaarsnest of Kehlsteinhaus werd in 1937-1938 gebouwd als cadeau voor Hitlers 50ste verjaardag. Het gebouw is een architectonisch meesterwerk met een fantastisch uitzicht, gelegen op een smalle rotsachtige bergkam op een hoogte van 1.834 meter midden in de Beierse Alpen nabij de Alpenstad Berchtesgaden. Een bezoek aan het Adelaarsnest is fascinerend. Uw Engelssprekende privéchauffeur brengt u naar de parkeerplaats, waar een lokale bus u langs een steil, 6,5 km lang pad uit de rotsen brengt. In 15 minuten klim je 700 meter. Maar dat is niet alles. Wanneer u de bovenste parkeerplaats bereikt, moet u door een met marmer omzoomde tunnel lopen en vervolgens een luxe historische lift nemen, nog eens 124 meter omhoog. Daar vind je niet alleen het interieur van de ooit beroemde villa, maar ook het restaurant en natuurlijk een prachtig panoramisch uitzicht op de Alpen.
Salzburg is de parel van de Oostenrijkse regio en de beroemde geboorteplaats van 's werelds beroemdste componist, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. De stad, gelegen aan de oevers van de rivier de Salzach, wordt omgeven door een adembenemend berglandschap en wordt gedomineerd door het monumentale fort Hohensalzburg, gelegen op de Mönchsberg. Naast de rijke geschiedenis en prachtige architectuur is de stad ook beroemd als locatie voor de filmmusical The Sound of Music. De barokke oude binnenstad van de stad is een van de grootste UNESCO-werelderfgoedlocaties ter wereld. Hier vind je adembenemende paleizen als Mirabell en Hellbrunn, musea, kathedralen en natuurlijk het huis van Mozart aan de Getreidegasse. Our driver was great, on time (actually early), drove safely, and courteous. This was the perfect way to see the Eagles Nest and easily continue on with our other European adventures. The drive to eagles nest from Munich was about 2 hours. We spent about 3 hours there including grabbing lunch and walking around. It was a perfect overcast day. Then about 45 minutes to our hotel in Salzburg. It was worth the cost of being picked up and dropped off at our hotels and not having to worry about dragging our luggage around.

We had a great day touring the German and Austrian Alps. Our driver Tomáš was excellent and although the tour description indicated that the drivers are not actually tour guides, I would say Tomáš is as good as any tour guide we have used across many trips in Europe. He knew the area very well and was able to share a lot of historic knowledge mixed with a good amount of humor. Given that we spent a considerable amount of time in the car, the laughs made it go very quickly…The other thing that made this an exceptional tour was Tomas’s depth of knowledge in and around Salzburg. He knew both the notable landmarks and quite a few less known, but very interesting places to see and where to get some great food.

We took this tour to Salzburg to see it decorated for Christmas and to visit the Christmas Markets. The description specifically says that we will have an English speaking driver. We did not. He barely even spoke a few words. We had to communicate with hand gestures and Google translate. It was very difficult. He was very very nice and tried to be as helpful as possible. Which we really appreciate, but we really needed someone who could speak English. The two hour drive to Salzburg was silent. The two hour drive back to Munich we all slept because we couldn’t talk to him. We were pretty disappointed.
Eagle's Nest was closed. The alternate trip to Konigsee ended up being closed. Unfortunately we didn't know that until we got there. We ended up going to Salzburg. And that was fabulous. I wish we had spent the whole day in Salzburg.

Though a rainy and cold day, Nikolai was the bright spot as our driver. He was prompt and delightful. We did expect a little more than just being dropped off at each destination, but we asked what we should do and see, and Nikolai gave us suggestions. This is a private driver with a self-guided tour and not a private guided tour...so set your expectations. We would still do it again, but it was very pricy for just being dropped off.

We originally had plans to visit the Eagles Nest but unfortunately it was closed unexpectedly due to weather. Our driver Petr offered up alternative suggestions so we continued on the journey and visited Salzburg and the salt mine. Even tho our original plans had to be changed, the trip was still amazing. I would highly recommend visiting the salt mine and going on the tour thru the mine. What an experience!

We could not have been more thrilled with this excursion and our personal driver, Thomas. He was so talkative and informative. There was one minor issue where Viator communicated the wrong time to Thomas to pick us up, but he was able to get right in his car to get us and we were still on time to our bus tickets to Eagles Nest.
