De opgravingen van Pompeii vormen een buitengewoon materieel bewijs van de antieke wereld, dankzij de staat van bewaring van de stad, die vrijwel intact bleef nadat de uitbarsting van 79 na Christus haar uit het Vesuviaanse landschap had weggevaagd.
Pompeii is een van de belangrijkste bewijzen van de Romeinse beschaving en biedt, net als een open boek, uitstekende informatie over de kunst, gebruiken, ambachten en het dagelijks leven van het verleden. De stad is opnieuw uit de duisternis van eeuwen tevoorschijn gekomen, precies zoals ze zou zijn geweest toen ze onverwachts werd begraven in de dikke laag as en lava die naar beneden stroomde na de verwoestende uitbarsting van de Vesuvius. De omvang van de tragedie was verschrikkelijk: in wat een van de meest actieve en prachtige Romeinse centra was geweest, kwam het leven permanent tot stilstand. De dikke laag vulkanisch materiaal waardoor het onder water kwam te staan, dat voor een groot deel uit as en lapilli bestond - niet-hard materiaal, in tegenstelling tot het materiaal dat Herculaneum bedekte en dat stolde tot extreem harde steen - heeft ertoe geleid dat de stad tot op de dag van vandaag intact is gebleven. dag, niet alleen wat de gebouwen betreft, maar ook wat betreft de inhoud van de huizen en winkels, wat een absoluut fascinerend beeld oplevert van het ‘dagelijkse’ leven.

This summer I went to visit Pompei with my family .I booked on line with discovering Pompeii and we found Veronica.She also own a car company with her husband Vito .The tour in Pompeii was amazing,the history come alive and we walked with her for over 2 hours.She is very knowledge about all the amazing fact that happened durin the eruption,she also explained the history of herculaneum the other town that also was largely destroyed by the eruption as well .All in all we had a fantastic day and now we know a lot of more about of what happened during the eruption. I highly recommend Discovering Pompeii!! This was one of our highlights in Italy. We booked a driver, who picked us up just outside the cruise ship. He messaged upon arrival, drove us to Pompeii directly to our own private guide. The guide was fantastic. So knowledgeable! Much more enjoyable with a private tour than a ton of people with an ear piece in. After our tour ended, we were brought to the same spot for pick up and a return to our ship. It was an excellent morning!! Pretty affordable for our group of 6, as well.

Veronica is an amazing and passionate guide who has such a wealth of knowledge not just of Pompeii but of the entire region! The history (also pre-roman) including political and geological context was very clearly explained. My daughter is learning about Greek and Latin mythology and she and Veronica could not stop talking about the various stories that came up in fresco's and statues. What was originally meant as a 2 hour guided tour ended up being a full morning of great conversations and passionate storytelling that really helped us visualize and understand life in Pompeii. Now we finally know where the red horn is really coming from 😀.
We have booked with this company a tour of the Pompeii Ruins. Veronica was our guide. She was professional, nice, prepared and very Flexible. He showed us a lot of things and with great enthusiasm delighted us with clear and simple language that makes us understand everything clearly, especially to my son who is small. Highly recommended.
